There's a person behind those eyes. Look at those eyes. What is going on behind those eyes? Don't feel like you've been duped if you drop a five or ten in their hands. It will be worth it to you.
Maybe if the GOP wasn't continually starting useless wars and cutting veterans benefits to pay for them there wouldn't be so many homeless disabled vets in dire need of VA services.
Maybe if more people owned up to the fact that this problem has spanned decades, they would realize that we all own this problem because we are all responsible for this dilemma, and that pointing a finger of blame at a specific entity serves to divide us more than unite us, and prevents us from ever getting to the heart of the matter.
It has to start with what they do for themselves. Alcohol and drugs are the major reason for their being in this condition. It's hard to improve mental health when the body and mind are being poisoned on a daily basis.
Fighting in a useless war for the military industrial complex that then tosses soldiers on the trash heap when they become too broken to fight doesn't help either. Trump's tax and health policies will only serve to increase the numbers of the homeless.

Dear Friend Sixpick: For folks like us, being there for those in need who want and are willing to accept our help is our best shot at serving G-d.
By being of service to ALL whom He created.

The value of charity is, as Immanuel Kant wrote, a "Ding an Sich". A thing in itself.
Good on you dear friend.
Would there more like you.

P.S. Always loved Kansas.
Even if one of my Masters degrees was not from K.U. Lawrence I would still be fan.
One need not be a Jayhawk to like KS.
But it doesn't hurt.

We STILL have to stop pointing fingers in order to address the problem effectively.
Wonderful article Six. These are the lost souls of our society. So easy to look away.. so easy to help. Have a heart and help.
Thanks for posting this. You might inspire fellow humans to be charitable.
