Nora Dannehy, a federal prosecutor who is a top aide to U.S. Attorney John H. Durham in his Russia investigation, has quietly resigned from the probe, the Hartford Courant reports. Dannehy's resignation was at least partly out of concern that the investigative team is "being pressed for political reasons to produce a report before its work is done," her colleagues tell the Courant.

"Durham recruited Dannehy to join his team after he was appointed by Attorney General William Barr more than a year and a half ago to examine the the FBI's legal justification for a disputed counterintelligence investigation that looked for ties between President Donald J. Trump's 2016 campaign and Russian efforts to meddle in the election," the Courant explained.

The move has legal experts on Twitter acknowledging the story as a major development in the case:

!!!
This is big.

U.S. prosecutor Nora Dannehy resigns from John Durham's Russia investigation, in part due to concerns that Barr is pressuring the team to produce results before the election.https://t.co/rkLGM5dihI

Nora Dannehy is highly regarded. She investigated the firings of 9 US Attys during the Bush administration & is widely viewed as a non-partisan professional. https://t.co/jla0svnMxJ — Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) September 11, 2020

Really big. Nora Dannehy is an incredibly well-respected prosecutor - not the type of person who would take this step for no reason. https://t.co/Oc4y2Foiv0 — Matthew Miller (@matthewamiller) September 11, 2020

Red Alert:

Nora Dannehy, Connecticut prosecutor who was top aide to John Durham's Trump-Russia investigation, resigns amid concern about pressure from Attorney General William Barr https://t.co/lcgtczWwW0

Canary in coal mine dead.

Looks like profound corruption in Barr-Durham probe—attempted October surprise.

Top Durham aide, Nora Dannehy resigns partly because "team is being pressed for political reasons to produce a report before its work is done"!https://t.co/JvXtU8k4bY

Here we go folks. Please remember that, whatever Durham does or does not find, Bill Barr will "spin", "mischaracterize" & lie about, just as Federal Judge Reggie Walton concluded regarding Barr's lies about the Mueller report. Our eyes are open to Barr's nefarious game. https://t.co/knyInHkecM — Glenn Kirschner (@glennkirschner2) September 11, 2020

Let there be no doubt: Barr is pushing the Durham probe to gift Trump an October surprise. https://t.co/tYOgFOmlN2 — Elie Honig (@eliehonig) September 11, 2020

Number two on the Durham probe has resigned, and reportedly the reason is because of pressure being put on the probe by William Barr.

Stinks to high heaven.

I don't question Ms Dannehy's integrity. I am sure this is all about the decision to release info/indict within the short time remaining before election. Some don't feel that is kosher. I'm sure she is one of those.

I for one don't believe that ones side should be hammered by innuendo and outrageous accusations, while the other lives up to Victorian like standards. If that investigation has important findings or indictments, then the US Attorney should act accordingly despite the fact that an election is less that two months away.

I heard Trump has said that Barr could go down as one of the greatest attorney generals. To Trump that rating is contingent on Barr indicting Trump's political enemies prior to the election. What good will it do Trump if it happens after Trump has lost in November? He will turn on Barr like a cornered rattlesnake if he loses the election. Barr will become a coward and a loser in trump's eyes unless he makes his move before the election.

The woman prosecutor resigned in protest to this scenario.

If Biden wins, his AG will immediately terminate the Durham investigation, no matter what the findings.

He will turn on Barr like a cornered rattlesnake if he loses the election.

If Trump loses, Barr immediately cleans out his desk and returns to private life.

The woman prosecutor resigned in protest to this scenario.

As I already said, there are a lot of people in the DOJ who believe that findings and or indictments should be put on hold this close to an election. That is what this is about. On the other side are those like James Comey who feel that holding such findings also has an effect on the election. Do you understand?

It's a double edged sword.

There arent going to be any indictments. Trump would settle for a report that said anything whatsoever negative about Biden and Harris, and Obama of course. The woman's resignation is a clear sign that she believes any pre-election report would be unethical. It would be like Comey announcing 10 days before the election in 16 that he was re-opening the emails issue and then later saying nothing came of it.  Nothing is going to come from the Durham report and it it is unethical to use such a report to effect an election. Dannehy knws that.

Again: Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty yesterday!

Correct. That's one woman's opinion. It could equally be said that her resignation is affecting the election.

It would be like Comey announcing 10 days before the election in 16 that he was re-opening the emails issue and then later saying nothing came of it.

And Comey defended that by saying if he had not released the breaking story it would have tarnished the reputation of the FBI.

That moron is currently sitting in the Oval Office, is he not?  How much more of a smocking gun do you need?

Also, be patient about that video.  I'm absolutely certain we'll be seeing it shortly after the covfefe hits the fan in November.

Let's just keep an eye on this development and wait for proper facts and statements to emerge.

Now if she comes out and says she left in order to "spend more time on her family"....... you know it's time to call bullshit.

My understanding from what is in the media is that number two's on a major investigation do not resign in the middle of it unless it something serious. A Hartford Connecticut newspaper is reporting that she is protesting pressure from Barr and that was likely leaked to the paper by someone who knows.

But yeah we can wait.

I hope that Barr's DOJ does indict Obama officials. It will be the worst thing that ever happened to Trump.

    • A veteran prosecutor working on Attorney General William Barr's investigation into the origins of the Russia probe resigned from the Justice Department on Thursday, The Hartford Courant reported.
    • The prosecutor, Nora Dannehy, reportedly resigned amid concerns that Barr was exerting inappropriate political pressure that investigators release their findings before the November election, even though their work is not yet done.
    • Dannehy's colleagues told The Courant that she does not support President Donald Trump and had been concerned for weeks by Barr's actions.
    • The attorney general has repeatedly cast doubt on the origins of the Russia probe and suggested that the FBI should not have launched the investigation and that it was inappropriately "spying" on Trump's 2016 campaign.
    • An independent investigation into the matter by the Justice Department's inspector general found no evidence of illegal spying and also concluded that the bureau had an "authorized purpose" in launching the Russia probe.
