Restoring the Trump economy
“I will make the Trump tax cuts the largest tax cut in history,” the former president said earlier this year at the Black Conservative Federation’s Honors Gala in South Carolina. “We’ll make it permanent and give you a new economic boom.”

Link to quote: Here’s what Trump has promised to do in a second term

In 2017 amid massive resistance, a faux investigation and the impossible plan to repeal & replace Obamacare, President Trump managed to get a tax cut passed as well as implementing some fair-trade deals to protect union workers and American businesses. It is a big part of why he won the last election. Congressional Republicans
scheduled many of the provisions of the 2017 Tax Cut to expire after 2025, betting that a future Congress would continue them. That gamble paid off and now they may even be extended and enhanced. In his campaign, Trump proposed several new tax cuts. He said that tips and overtime pay shouldn’t be taxed, for instance, and that domestic manufacturers should pay lower taxes. All of that is now in the mix.

There will have to be spending cuts in order to make the Tax cuts work. At the top of the list would be the end of Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act , which mainly meant funding for both clean energy and the Internal Revenue Service. Ending subsidies for clean-energy industries would also help. Then of course, there is the tariff that Trump proposed for all imported goods. All of these measures should offset the cost of a tax cut.

The President-elect also intends to help the middle class crippled by inflation:

The former president unveiled on the campaign trail several measures aimed at helping Americans afford the cost of living.

He has said he would  temporarily cap credit card interest rates  at around 10%, which is less than half the current rate.

And Trump promised to make the  interest paid on car loans  fully tax deductible, similar to the popular existing deduction for mortgage interest. While he argues this will stimulate car ownership, some experts say it will mainly help wealthier Americans who itemize their deductions – and who typically buy more expensive cars.

To assist aging seniors and their family members, Trump has said he would push for a  tax credit for family caregivers . Also, he would shift resources to at-home care and end disincentives that lead to care worker shortages, according to his platform.

Trump’s running mate,  Ohio Sen.   JD Vance , has floated beefing up the child tax credit to $5,000 per child, but the president-elect has not formally adopted that idea.

Here’s what Trump is proposing for the economy | CNN Politics

Any additional economic growth created by lower taxes would help many Americans.

Good morning

News from NYC

an-uptown-the-bronx-new-york-subway-train-waiting-at-a-platform-in-BAPDDT.jpg

A Big Apple migrant armed with a loaded AR-15 assault rifle and his Mexican cartel pal are both back on the streets — despite allegedly ganging up on NYPD cops at a Bronx subway station.

Abraham Sosa, 20, a migrant living above a Bronx day care center, was hit with assault, gun possession, resisting arrest and trespassing charges after being nabbed urinating in a subway tunnel on Nov. 5 — while lugging the assault weapon in his backpack, according to sources and records.

His pal, 21-year-old Christopher Mayren, allegedly  jumped into the fray when Sosa  got into a scuffle with New York’s Finest, leaving two cops injured, according to a criminal complaint.

“This is crazy,” one frustrated Bronx detective told The Post Thursday. “You have a member of a Mexican cartel running around. That tattoo is a billboard for ‘I am a criminal. I don’t care about your laws.’

“Can it get more dangerous than riding a subway with a loaded rifle? And when he’s not on a train, he’s upstairs from little children in the day care center,” they said. “These are two very dangerous scenarios.”

It was not immediately clear if one or both of the suspects are in the US illegally.

According to police, the melee unfolded after Sosa strolled past a “No Trespassing” sign at the Kingsbridge Road B and D train station around 4:30 p.m. Nov. 5.

Cops spotted him urinating in the subway tunnel and questioned him.

“Really?” Sosa allegedly told the officers, according to a criminal complaint. “For using the bathroom?

“I hurt my ankle,” he told the cops. “Let me show you my ankle.”

But when police started to handcuff him, Sosa allegedly went nuts and fought back — and Mayren jumped in and started fighting with the officers, knocking two of them to the ground.

Both men were busted and charged, and arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court the following day.

However, Mayren was released without bail and Sosa was sent to Rikers Island on a $25,000 bond — which he posted on Nov. 12, jail records show.

Both are due back in court on Dec. 9.

And schools that persist in explicit unlawful discrimination under the guise of equity will not only have their endowment taxed, but through budget reconciliation, I will advance a measure to have them fined up to the entire amount of their endowment.   A portion of the seized funds will then be used as restitution for victims of these illegal and unjust policies, policies that hurt our country so badly. We have to remember that the "bylaws for liberalism" state that if a Hispanic is one they don't like, then that Hispanic is considered white and put into a lower category to them. Maybe even labeled as a supremacist.

He'll be too busy paying back putin and others........

'Just one week has passed since Donald Trump’s electoral triumph, and already Russian President Vladimir Putin—one of the strongman leaders Trump admires most—is messing with his head.

First,    Putin waited two days before congratulating Trump on his victory   . One can imagine Trump receiving phone calls from kowtowing leaders the world over—Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, the Palestinian Authority’s Mahmoud Abbas, the chief of NATO, the European heads of state—all the while wondering about the man whom he’s admired publicly and privately for the past eight years:    When is Vladimir going to call?

Then, in response to    Trump’s claim    that during their phone call, he asked—in some accounts,    warned   —Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine,    a Kremlin spokesman denied    that the two had spoken on the phone at all. (Putin issued his belated congratulations at a news conference.)

I don’t know who’s telling the truth, a practice for which neither man has a sterling reputation. But either way, in the next few weeks, when  Putin orders 50,000 fresh recruits   (including 10,000 imported North Korean soldiers) to go on the next rampage—ousting Ukrainian soldiers from the thin slice of Russian territory they hold, then retaking soil across the border in Donbas province—he can tell a complaining Trump that he doesn’t recall any such conversation. If Trump thinks Putin actually will refrain from stepping up attacks on Ukraine as a friendly favor … well, maybe our once-and-future president will learn a lesson about the limits of personal relations in the face of perceived national interests early in his second term.

The final twist of this saga came on Monday when Russia’s intelligence chief,    Nikolai Patrushev   , made the following comment in an interview with the Moscow newspaper Kommersant:

The election campaign is over. To achieve success in the election, Donald Trump relied on certain forces to which he has corresponding obligations. As a responsible person, he will be obliged to fulfill them.

This is a mind-blowing bit of psychological warfare! The Russians are basically telling Trump:    We put you in office. Now it’s time for you to pay us back.

You mean the Obama economy that was the slowest and longest recovery from a recession ever? That economy?

Leftist revisionist history is wonderful. Facts mean nothing.

As for your Covid BS. Trump left it up to governors to decide how to handle it. Democrats responded by shutting their states' economies down. But that is all Trump's fault right? That Democrat controlled bastions of stupidity purposely damaged their state's economies to harm Trump.

"It worked right" to quote Harry Reid after purposely lying about Romney's taxes to win an election.

Which president mismanaged Covid more?

Trump didn't have the benefit of the three vaccines- which his administration rushed into production; or the therapeutics that Biden did. Yet more people died under Biden's watch. Guess Joe really sucks at his job.

Also, name one damn country that handled Covid well. Answer there isn't one. Covid wrecked every country- including the left's wet dream China.

Trump's 2nd administration's economy will be the momentum of Biden's economy until Trump's policies cause it to start a downturn.

Biden's economy sucks shit. It has been on the precipice of recession for years. The economic downturn you are complaining about, along with inflation, high gas prices, shortages, etc occurred under Biden's watch. They are a direct result of his policies and Democrats of a wide open border bringing in millions of illegal immigrants that needed to be cared for; Covid give aways that were extended far too long; Biden's illegal tuition debt forgiveness programs; war on energy; government bloated spending in "Build Back Better" and "The Inflation Reduction Act"; funding the proxy war in Ukraine (along with putting US troops in countries bordering Ukraine); the proxy war in Israel vs Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran; and deploying three fourths of the US fleet in the ME to protect Israel and trying/failing to protect international shipping lanes in the Red Sea.

Inflation is creeping back up again because they lowered interest rates too soon and too quickly; while the government continues to spend like there is no tomorrow.

But keep spinning the lie that Biden's economy is great. It is what lost Democrats the election; so the majority of voters aren't fooled.

Like a person who made millions illegally with his position in government?

A person who used two faux impeachments against a sitting President?

Are you saying it should be okay for a sitting president to be able to threaten an outside nation to interfere in an election?  Then when that doesn't work to incite an insurrection?

You don't think those should be impeachable offenses?

A person who ran to San Fransisco's China town at the onset of the pandemic because she thought the President trying to respond was racist?

First of all, Trump is racist.   2nd, is that worse than causing the unnecessary deaths of thousands of Americans because of his ineptitude of responding to the pandemic?

I have to question the rationale of that.

And I have to question the rationale and hypocrisy of a person being fine with almost identical actions by a republican but condemning them for a democrat.

Look where inflation is now in context of the last 10 years. Now, given the fluctuating rate of inflation went from 2.4% to 2.6% (the wrong direction, we want to get to 2%) but in the big picture, this is still a historical norm ... even with the Trump years.

So what specifically will Trump do to reduce the inflation rate?

Beyond the Black and white of Democrat politics, the rest of the world is preparing for Prez 47.  Trump's mandate is a perishable asset and Trump seems be trying to whip Republicans in line with his mandate while it lasts.

Bond investors have sent a clear message that Federal deficits matter.  Or, maybe, they're trying to make investing in America too costly to compete with China.  Financial finaglers will try to position themselves to exploit opportunities (without actually having to do anything) so they can grab any prosperity before the common folk have a chance.  Looks like somebody needs a haircut.  Will Trump jump to crypto?

Biden is making a 'Hail Mary' effort prop up his puppet, Zelensky.  Will Biden empty US stockpiles before Trump can stop it?  At this rate our military will need to raid the civilian stockpile if there is any fighting to be done.  Europe certainly won't be riding over the horizon wearing white hats.  Germany has fallen and can't get up.  Emmanuel Macron is not Charlie Hebdo and Ukraine doesn't need submarines.  The UK is distracted by an imploding monarchy.  And some of the old bloc are reacquainting themselves with their history written in Cyrillic.  And Trump is supposed to save this mess?

Democrats are trying hard to avoid becoming irrelevant.  So far, they're failing.  DEI won't save the party now.  Just think, the midterm elections fall on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.  With Trump in the White House.  Hard to imagine Democrats marching around in tricorn hats but desperate times calls for desperate measures.  Democrats trying to win midterm elections by bad mouthing America on a patriotic anniversary doesn't seem like a winning strategy.  Democrats are going to have a difficult time regaining relevance.

Not an inoculation, but in building up an immunity against the virus of hate and division. Not an easy task, but it begins by holding them to account through our collective voices and holding true to our country’s values, ideals and promise.

No room for resentment as that leads to resignation. (hence the entire maga movement)

Time to stay engaged, get involved, and never, ever stop working to expose the lies in embracing the truth. Trump is inheriting a damn good economy, just like he did in 2016.

Nancy Pelosi won't allow the reelection of Joe Biden -- even with those bogus numbers.

97 pct of the national debt has been created since Ronald Reagan was inaugurated.  68 pct of the national debt has been created since Barack Obama was inaugurated.  (Over two thirds of the national debt has been created by the last 3 Presidents over the last 16 years.  Let that sink in.)  Joe Biden, alone, is responsible for 19 pct of the national debt and his final numbers aren't in yet.

Joe Biden presided over a record decline in labor force participation.  And the number of workers still hasn't recovered.  (So, how does this fit with your unemployment data?  Something doesn't add up - and - I have a reliable source.)

Joe Biden presided over a huge spike in inflation.  And inflation is still higher than any time during Trump's time in office - including the pandemic.

Joe Biden presided over the largest trade deficit the country has experienced over the last 32 years.  Even those cheap imports didn't help lower inflation.

Joe Biden's record doesn't look that great out here in the real world.  That's why Kamala Harris didn't want to talk about her incumbent legacy.  The country wants to return to the economic levels before the pandemic, when Donald Trump was President.  Joe Biden and his Democratic Congress had other priorities and that shows in the real world data.

Vaxxed Americans- He should thank Trump for instrumentally getting the vaccine available his entire term, where Trump only had it available for a few months of his term.

Schools open- Leftist governors kept their schools closed far longer than any red city/ state. Even the leftist teachers unions fought to keep schools closed longer. They finally had no choice when parents started rebelling against those idiots.

Unemployment- Many leftist cities and states shut down far longer than any red city/state. Florida was closed only 2 or 3 weeks then back open again. Most blue stated shut down for months. That is where the majority of your unemployment came from. When the rate started coming down it was because blue cities/ states opened and people were finally able to go back to work. Biden had zero to do with the UR rate.

Child poverty- you are going to have to show proof of that

Foreign wars- we are in proxy wars with Russia and Iran. We were in zero wars when Trump was in office

Economy- the biggest reason why Biden/ Harris was tossed out of office. The American people should did not think we have the best economy ever.. .

Economy- the biggest reason why Biden/ Harris was tossed out of office.

What does the typical Trump supporter think Trump will accomplish in terms of the economy?

The GDP is great.   Wages are in good shape.   Unemployment is at a normal rate.   Inflation is at a normal rate.   Interest rates continue to lower naturally.    Artificially inflated prices will give way to market forces.

So what, exactly, is Trump going to do?   Make the stock market continue to break record highs?   Magically reduce consumer prices??

He could do nothing other than give the claimed (in quote) tax break to the middle class (will not do much for those making less given they are not paying taxes).    (Not convinced the middle class will see a tax break.)   So where does that money come from?   Tariffs?

Quite seriously, what is wrong with the economy and the direction it is moving right now and, if you identify what is wrong, how exactly do you think Trump will 'fix' it?

He's going to crackdown on the illegal immigration. As far as prices, I've already said I don't think most working class people see prices falling significantly, they're hoping that wages rise enough that they can afford to live with a little cushion.

Rising prices and illegal immigration.

Illegal immigration is a different point.   I asked about the economy.

As far as prices, I've already said I don't think most working class people see prices falling significantly, they're hoping that wages rise enough that they can afford to live with a little cushion.

You acknowledge that Trump is not going to do anything to help with rising prices.   So anyone who voted for Trump thinking he would magically fix prices were duped by Trump.

You think that those who knew Trump cannot magically lower consumer prices were instead hoping he can magically raise their wages.   (He did not even claim that.)   The closest Trump came to this is his promise to remove taxes on tips and overtime (an estimated $1 trillion hit on tax revenues).   That, if done, would increase take home pay but not increase wages.   Harris also promised to remove taxes on tips.

How, specifically, does a PotUS cause wages to rise?    Wages are also a market; wages are not set by government.   And if Trump could magically raise wages, how does he prevent consumer prices from raising as a result?

In your view, the problem with the economy per Trump voters is that prices are too high yet Trump cannot fix that problem.   So they voted for Trump on the hope that he will raise wages (and not cause a rise in prices).

Thus Trump supporters ignore all the sound, positive factors of our economy and deem the economy bad merely because of prices but they do not think Trump will do anything on the economy other than magically raise their wages?   Yet they vote for Trump with the economy as one of the key factors.

Do you find that to be rational?

TiG@6.2.20 ☞ Thus Trump supporters ignore all the sound, positive factors of our economy and deem the economy bad merely because of prices but they do not think Trump will do anything on the economy other than magically raise their wages?   Yet they vote for Trump with the economy as one of the key factors.
Greg@6.2.21 ☞ Yep, amazing what an actual record of doing such things counts for huh?

You try to be vague but this time you run up against context.   Trump has no record of magically making consumer prices palatable to the American people.

Now, you can set the record straight.   Do you acknowledge that Trump cannot fix the problem of high prices across the board?

Do you find it to be a shame that any voter would vote for Trump under the misconception that he was going to fix the high prices?

Huh? You would think someone with a truncated campaign would try to accurately get their message out.....

The message obviously got out, we are discussing the message.   Her message was that regarding high prices, she was going to go after price-gouging on legal terms.  She could have said that she would fix prices and leave it at that (which would be a very poor choice).   But she stated clearly her approach for dealing with higher prices.   It was sensible since she did not promise to magically change the dynamics of supply and demand but rather would target artificial inflation (price-gouging).

You, however, were asking details about how Harris would implement her message.   Since when do politicians provide the detailed mechanics of their campaign promises?   Never.  So why do you expect this of Harris?

“We’ll make it permanent and give you a new economic boom.”

He could do nothing other than give the claimed (in quote) tax break to the middle class (will not do much for those making less given they are not paying taxes).    (Not convinced the middle class will see a tax break.)   So where does that money come from?   Tariffs?

Quite seriously, what is wrong with the economy and the direction it is moving right now and, if you identify what is wrong, how exactly do you think Trump will 'fix' it?

If that were true, Biden would never have been forced out and would likely have been reelected despite all the insane woke shit he forced onto the country.

So what, exactly, is Trump going to do?

Again, assuming your hypothesis is correct, he would do what Bill Clinton once did with the Reagan economy. Simply, don't screw it up.

There is something even more important. It is called restoring energy independence. We know he is going to unleash the energy producers again and I'm sure he will also replenish the strategic oil reserve, but I hope he also gets more oil refineries built. Our trade policy should be based on protecting our workers.

Quite seriously, what is wrong with the economy and the direction it is moving right now

And btw inflation has recently risen again, and private sector employment (the important kind) is down.

If that were true, ...

But it is true.   These are facts.   You are fantasizing a problem for Trump to fix that does not exist.   So what will Trump actually do here?

It is called restoring energy independence.

The USA  exports more crude oil and refined petroleum products than we import.   And we continue to increase our exports of crude oil.

If we want to be independent of foreign crude oil, we need to retool our refineries from using the cheaper sour crude that we import to using the sweet crude that we export.   We have plenty of oil, we just do not have the ability to process all that we need due to our historic choice to import sour because it is cheaper than using our own sweet.

So what will Trump actually do here?

And btw inflation has recently risen again, and private sector employment (the important kind) is down.

Our inflation and unemployment levels are within the historic norms.

So what will Trump actually do here?

Do you understand that if he pursues his gratuitous, excessive tariffs that he will spike inflation?   Do you recognize that?

Snicker. Who's having their intelligence insulted by whom? Your (and presumably the rest of MAGA voters) inability to disambiguate prices for commodities from the economy as a whole shows that we need better public education. The market which you are always kowtowing to in reverence has set the price of butter et al. and Trump can do no more than Biden did to control it. You blame Biden's IRA but that had nothing to do with it because the price peaks had already passed before it did.

The fact is that our nation is a net energy exporter in fossil fuels and we are generating more crude now than we ever have.

Face the facts, Vic.   Stop denying facts.

We had inflation for one reason - Biden's spending.

Spending does indeed contribute to inflation.   But Biden spent less than Trump did in his four years.   It is absurd to ignore the effects of the pandemic and blame everything on Biden especially when he spent / borrowed less than Trump:

Both candidates approved substantial amounts of new borrowing in their first term. President Trump approved $8.4 trillion in borrowing over a decade, while President Biden has approved $4.3 trillion so far in his first three years and five months in office. Of course, accountability also rests with Congress as a co-equal branch of government, which passed legislation constituting the majority of the fiscal impact under both presidents.

It is also a fundamental failure to ignore that inflation was not limited to the USA.   Worldwide prices spiked in response to the pandemic.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation rose almost simultaneously in most economies around the world. After peaking in mid-2022, inflation then went into decline—a fall that was just as universal as the initial rise.

LSE_2024_global-inflation_almuzara_ch2.png

.

But you ignore all this and dishonestly blame this on Biden.   Do you not recognize the fundamental failure of logic?

Inflation may have come down from the high he created by food prices have not.

What, specifically, is Trump going to do to lower consumer prices?   Let's hear it, Vic.   What is Trump going to do about food prices?   What magical powers do you think Trump possesses?

You are telling us the Biden economy is all good on the one hand and that you can't conceive of how Trump will fix it on the other hand is a bit rich.

What an amazing display of dishonesty.   I argued that the economy is in good shape in response to your claim that it is not.   I then asked you to identify, specifically, what you believe is bad in our economy and then how Trump is supposed to 'fix' it.   You totally misrepresented what I wrote.   How dishonest!

TiG @7.1.1 What, specifically, will Trump 'fix' in the economy?    All you have done is deny economic truths.   What actual problems will Trump fix?

Prior to this I argued that our economy is in good shape.   That is why I quoted 'fix' and why I asked you what actual problems Trump is supposed to fix.

So let's hear it, Vic.

You are quite correct and I have no expectation that Trump supporters will take the time to review these videos and for the very few who do I expect nothing but crossed-arm nuh-uhs.

I hope that I am wrong, but given they just put Trump in the White House, I suspect (unfortunately) that we are both quite correct in our assessments.

People really should know this though.  People should understand at the very least that the US refineries were designed to process the cheaper-to-acquire sour/heavy crude.   The majority of our refineries are set this way and it is cost prohibitive to retool them to process our domestic sweet/light crude.  And even if they did, it still costs more for us to harvest our own sweet/light crude than it does to purchase sour/heavy crude from international suppliers.

We are as energy independent as we could expect to be.   The best way for us to continue to full energy independence is to migrate to renewables.   The other approach (migrating to sweet/light crude) is counterproductive, crazy-expensive (the reason it has not been done), taps a limited natural resource, and contributes to the looming threats of climate change.

"Drill, baby, drill" is brain-dead stupid.   Trump is a buffoon.

The GDP is great.   Wages are in good shape.   Unemployment is at a normal rate.   Inflation is at a normal rate.   Interest rates continue to lower naturally.    Artificially inflated prices will give way to market forces.

The government can't create a great GDP, legislate wage increases, and create jobs without shifting the burden onto taxpayers.  The government cannot provide a record stock market without dumping cash into the parasitic financial sector.  Joe Biden tried to create prosperity using a magic money tree.  But only the gullible believes prosperity that depends upon the government credit card is sustainable.

The United States is not producing new domestic wealth using international trade.  The US is running a trade deficit which devalues wealth in the US.  We've been using public debt to offset the effects of trade deficits but the national debt has begun increasing at a much higher rate.  The rest of the world won't allow the US Federal debt to consume the global economy.  The US has to kick the debt habit and revive real wealth creation in the US economy.  Trying to revive the economic engine of wealth creation in the US will require increasing tariffs while lowering domestic taxes.

Biden kept Trump's higher tariffs and raised taxes.  Supposedly that would increase government revenue to pay for all the social spending that's responsible for Biden's artificially great economy.  But that did not happen.  Two thirds of our national debt has been created over the last 16 years under 3 Presidents.  Joe Biden, alone, is responsible for creating 19 pct of our national debt and his term isn't finished yet.  The available data speaks for itself.

Why would the national debt increase by 19 pct when the economy is so great?  A great economy doesn't need to be propped up by Federal debt.

Debt growth under Donald Trump

From the beginning of Donald Trump’s presidency in 2017 to its end in 2021, the national debt increased by 40.43%, about $8.18 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury Department. It rose the most from September 2019 to September 2020, when Trump spent $3.6 trillion on coronavirus pandemic relief.

What will people experience in this newly 'returned' Trump economy?

  • Will prices return to the point where people consider them fair?
  • Will wages increase even more so that prices are no longer an issue?
  • Will unemployment drop lower than current?
  • Will the middle class get tax cuts?
  • Will interest rates go back to 3% or so?
  • Will the stock market continue to break record highs?
  • Will GDP continue to grow?

What specifically are the defining characteristics of this romanticized Trump economy and what, specifically, will Trump do to make this happen?

When Trump won the first time, the stock market over reacted for about 72 hours before retreating.

The graphs show no change in the economic trajectory he was handed until they fumbled COVID

This time it was similar.  The stock market has already taken back the gains of the last week.

The trajectory remains improving, slowly and steadily, the Fed hesitates to change the interest rates.

Current wage growth exceeds current inflation but it will be many months before wage growth can erase the price increases from the 9% inflation damage because sellers, rarely if ever, will reduce prices to what they were.  They will simply keep the excess profits and in the short term and credit whoever is in office.
