Trans Kids Playing Sports ‘Women’s Issue Of Our Time,’ Nikki Haley Says

Nick Visser 3-3 minutes   6/5/2023

Republican 2024 presidential hopeful   Nikki Haley   said Sunday that keeping transgender kids from playing on school sports teams was the “women’s issue of our time” during a CNN town hall event.

Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and U.S. ambassador to the U.N., has   made the comment before , but her rhetoric Sunday plays into the Republican Party’s   ongoing assault against transgender Americans . GOP lawmakers have made anti-LGBTQ legislation a key focus of the 2024 race, including the sports team plans and efforts to limit access to medically necessary health care for trans youth.

“How are we supposed to get girls used to the fact that biological boys are in their locker rooms?” Haley asked during the event, attempting to link the idea with the prevalence of teen suicide among young girls. “We should be growing strong girls, confident girls.”

A recent   Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report   found an increased level of suicide risk among teen girls, but there is no evidence to suggest the inclusion of trans athletes on sports teams contributes.

In fact, more than   40% of transgender and nonbinary young people   in the U.S. have seriously considered suicide, according to recent findings from the Trevor Project. The group also found that two-thirds of that group say ongoing efforts to restrict freedoms for LGBTQ people have had a negative impact on their mental health.

Moderator Jake Tapper pressed Haley on her comments, and she said the country needed “to take care of these kids” and be “humane” in discussions about trans issues. But she said the discussion about inclusion on sports teams — an issue driven by Republicans — had “overtaken the entire conversation, and that’s not fair to the rest of our kids.”

“I want everybody to live the way they want to live,” she said. “But stop pushing your views on everybody else.”

There are currently   nearly 500 bills   targeting queer Americans before lawmakers during the 2023 legislative session, according to the American Civil Liberties Union. Those include efforts to limit how teachers can   discuss sexuality and gender identity , and attempts to   ban drag shows .

Considering how much money many men spend fighting baldness; you would get blow back on that statement.

Also, you aren't a woman.  You don't get a say in what is the "Women's Issue Of Our Time". Your male privilege is showing.

Why are mostly old, white, Democrat males trying so hard to replace CIS girls and women?

It seems to be an issue for millions of real biological women (adult females) and parents with daughters.

The left seems to be all in on this issue of pretending that biological men are somehow to be considered to be "women" They seem to be willing to go down to defeat come election time, because the vast majority of normal people reject this foolish notion.

Meanwhile, the insanity continues....

I think there is a catch 22/vicious circle element to this subject. The more trans issues are in the news every day , the more the conservatives think trans is being shoved down their throat. The more conservatives overreact to trans people the more liberals think they need to fight against the resulting oppression. and back and forth seesaw.

The more Democrats try to cram the trans agenda/indoctrination down everyone's throats the more blowback there will be. The more leftists misrepresent the bills that are being passed the more blowback there will be.

Only loons believe that boys should be allowed to compete in girls sports; that drag queens and cross dressers should be able to perform their routines in front of children; and that public schools are the first avenue for pushing the LQBQT+ agenda at a very young age.

I dont approve of trans playing girls sports.

However, this may be the price of providing equal rights for transgender people, and anyway it is a minute problem, blown out of all proportion by right wing media.

I am happy with letting courts decide whether or not trans can compete in girls sports.

Schools will never allow it because of all the money they make selling jerseys, tickets, concessions, and boosters. At the college level tv contracts come into play. No one is going to give up the money.

The issue is SCHOOL sports.  School performance isn't measured by sports.  There aren't standardized tests for sports.  Tax money spent on sports doesn't contribute to school performance.

If schools are supposed to avoid competition in classrooms then competitive sports doesn't have a place in schools.  Leveling the playing field negates the purpose of competitive sports.

I considered the following:  What college?  Is it liberal, conservative, religious, etc?  IOW, is this college concerned with opening minds or closing them?

Then I asked the same questions about the professor.

I find it unacceptable that anyone has to preface the word woman with biological.  I haven't really thought about what to call the males saying they are women or if it is even a worthwhile effort to find a label for them.

It is not offensive.  But truly there are only two sexes male and female.  Trans people are either biologically male or female regardless of what new labels that they can require be applied to them.

When the trans fully "transitions" then they are legally classified as male or female - not trans male or trans female.

People are making this issue far more complicated than it has to be - but some people seem to gain personal satisfaction creating or maintaining conflict.  Or maybe that is the only way that anyone ever notices them.  Humans need validation from others on some level to be mentally healthy.  It is possible that some of the people creating the most dissension are needing to feel validated.

I understand the concerns - and even agree with some of them - but the hysteria over this is far out of proportion to the actual incidence. This is not some huge national issue that requires the full attention of the next President of the United States. I think not.

I thought you were against men telling women what is important to them.

How many transgender athletes are in the U.S.?

Of the estimated 332 million citizens living in the United States, 1.3 million adults and 300,000 youth ages 13 to 17 identify as transgender, equaling half a percent and 1.4 percent of the population respectively, according to a   report   published by Williams Institute, a think tank at UCLA's Law School in 2022.

Not all transgender people identify as women, and an even smaller number consists of transgender women hoping to compete in girls' and women's sports.

Privacy laws make it tough to identify the exact number of transgender athletes competing in public school sports, but researcher and medical physicist Joanna Harper estimates the number can't exceed 100 nationwide.

"While we don't know the exact number of trans women competing in NCAA sports, I would be very surprised if there were more than 100 of them in the women's category," Harper told   Newsweek .

One hundred transgender athletes would comprise an incredibly small number of the U.S. population, and the number dwindles even further when it comes to middle school and high school athletes.

This is, at least, an ass well educated and experienced in the subject. i.e.: an expert.

Some people would have the rest of us believe that athletic, predatory trans women are lurking behind every bush, just ready to pounce on some helpless state record.

Just because someone is an expert does not mean they do not have a narrative to promote.  If I only had a dollar for every expert they had on CNN, MSNBC, and FOX that parroted what the station wants them to I would be rich enough to own a penthouse in NYC.

It does mean she probably didn’t just pull it out of her ass.

And even if it is an estimate, with her credentials, I trust whatever comes out of her ass more than anything you might say to dismiss it.

And I don't.  Given todays climate when I hear what an expert has to say I always take it with a big grain of salt.  A pile of salt if no actual data or study is in their comment.  If I care or am interested in the comment or subject I will research it further to try and gain more than one persons opinion or perspective, even if they are considered an expert.  Especially since the title of expert seems to be given out in Cracker Jacks boxes at the current time.

But you be you.

You said,

I would go with the experts first statement, there is no way to tell.

But she said,

we don't know the exact number of trans women competing in NCAA sports

There’s a big difference between “no way to tell” and “we don’t know the exact number.” For example, we don’t know the exact number of guns in America, but experts are supremely confident that they outnumber people. For that matter, we don’t know the exact number of people, but we can make an educated guess that is useful.

Where is her actual data to support the second statement other than her feeling?

They reference a report. You could try reading it.

There were, in 2021, 3.24 million girls taking part in high school sports. I looked it up. The expert "estimates" that there are fewer than 100 trans taking part in those sports.

These are, I'm sure, approximations.

If the ones here who are heart set on acting as if trans are overwhelming girls sports, let them put up some relevant facts or shut the fuck up.

Im sick and tired of people who are too lazy to post anything but whining being so prominent on this forum.

Ditto except tired of people who are so obsessed with a particular individual that they inundate the forum with pissing and moaning about a single person they can't control..........as well as trying to change the minds of those who don't think like they do. We both have the option to leave but I am not such a candyass that I let the former bother me. I just laugh ..........................
