Border barrier of shipping containers snakes across Arizona wilderness
By: Liliana Salgado (YahooNews)
A long, thin line stretches across the dusty Arizona landscape. It is a border barrier - but not the customary wall or fence. This is made up entirely of shipping containers stacked on top of each other.
The improvised wall - topped with concertina wire - was ordered built by Republican Governor Doug Ducey in August in an attempt to fill gaps in the U.S.-Mexico border used by migrants.
Border communities had been overwhelmed, he argued, saying the double-stacked containers would reach 22 feet (6.7 m) high.
Initially ordered for Yuma County, Reuters observed a container wall being constructed in Cochise County.
Environmental protesters said the construction was harmful to local wildlife. On Tuesday, a small group sat next to one of the containers.
"We're not here to cause damage, get in anyone's way. What we're here to do is enjoy our public lands in a strategic way that hinders the placement of further shipping containers," said Eamon Harrity, wildlife project manager at Sky Island Alliance.
The Center for Biological Diversity has said the containers may obstruct a critical jaguar and ocelot migration corridor, while the U.S. Forest Service said at the end of November that the wall could create safety hazards and called it unlawful.
Ducey argues he has the right to defend the state of Arizona and protect its citizens. He has filed a lawsuit asking a judge to stop the federal government from interfering. Last month, the federal government filed a motion to dismiss that lawsuit.

This is the same wall the Biden Administration is demanding be taken down.
I guess it violates Biden's open border policies.
Each one is three fair-sized rooms - put the window on the US side.
Don't give them any ideas!
Lived in those in Afghanistan. THEY SUCK!
Depends on what resources are used to improve them.
If it is just the metal exterior exposed to the elements; yes it would suck.
A third of a conex beats an eighth of a B-hut that stinks like ass and socks.
I'll bet a dollar to a donut that Hobbs will order them taken down as soon as she takes office as Governor of Arizona. And Mark Kelley will support her on it.
And I'm pretty sure that would put him as failing in his duties. Kind of like Biden.
Kelley talks a pretty speech about how much he cares about border issues then votes in lockstep with his liberal Dem buds.
I've heard only one Democrat consistently speak out about Biden's open border, and that's Rep. Henry Cuellar (Texas). It was only right before the midterm election that Hobbs and Kelly finally got the courage to squeak out a couple of sentences opposing what they called "immigration". I'd have had more respect for them if they'd said ILLEGAL immigration.
Cueller is our DINO. He votes with Abbott all the time.
He's the GOP definition of "bipartisan".
Thank you for proving my point.
How many illegals have visited you at work
or run down your street?
How do Congressional people vote with Biden all the time?
Hmmmm. I was under the impression that Henry Cuellar is a moderate Democrat US Representative for Texas' 28th District.
Per left-wing FiveThirtyEight ...
As a federal employee, how can Cuellar also vote in line with his governor's positions?
They're called Democrats - happens quite a bit.
On my street? Dozens. Just about every yard crew has a couple. Why?
“…every yard crew has a couple.”
And those yards are well manicured, your homes are well built, your meals are well prepared and dishes are cleaned when dining out, your sheets are laundered when traveling, your holiday goods and food for your holiday meal are grown, harvested, loaded, transported, unloaded and stocked.
The common denominator is not just the illegal worker, it is the equally illegal employers that bring you these conveniences on the cheap and off the books. Follow the money first if you are truly concerned about who may be on your block, but be ready to have many services you take for granted curtailed.
Living where I do right on the border I have illegals running the alleys behind my house every night 7 days a week 365 days a year. Border Patrol is constantly cruising my neighborhood shining spotlights at the front of my house. I have a big female black lab that does not like that.
That denominator does not exist in my area. They are just passing through here in on their way to points North, East, and West. This is just a small rural area that has nothing for them. The nearest big city is two hours North of me where they can get jobs and disappear into the woodwork.
Notice I'm not complaining about them. That said, was there some point you were trying to make here?
You've said this before, and I don't think you actually have much experience on the subject. You really don't seem to have any idea how far most businesses go to avoid hiring illegals and how easy it is for illegals to produce false documentation. You also don't seem to account for the number of illegals running yard crews or maid services or handyman services or doing other work on the side where they're not employees so no documentation is required.
Why would you imagine I'm concerned?
I simply stated that I see illegal immigrants all the time. I live in a border state, so that shouldn't surprise anybody.
Admitting the exceedingly obvious illegal immigration flow at the border is not synonymous with worry/concern/fear of illegal aliens. It's just acknowledging that our government is intentionally being stupid about something else because (in this case liberal) feelings are at stake.
Here in Norther VA, many congregate outside 7-11's in the mourning. People that want cheap day labor cruise there and pick them up.
Here too.................
So here in Texas, you definitely have several friends who can recommend a person they have used before to do whatever you need done. If that guy needs extra labor, he goes and gets it.
Sometimes the guy all your friends recommend isn't legal. That doesn't mean he's not professional.
Then any complaints as to the crossings at the border are rendered meaningless?
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Out of curiosity, do we need a tutorial for you on how to use the quote function on this forum?
What we should be doing... if we weren't behaving like two sets of completely tribal fuckwitted morons... is double our immigration quota.
Guatemalan shows up in Laredo, they check in, get a temporary work permit.
We then have a database where the thousands of US employers who can't find help can post their jobs and match up with people who actually want to show up and work.
But we won't do that. We'll oscillate between complete fuckwitted denial that half a million people is actually a significant number and outrage that 50 immigrants have arrived in NY or Chicago on a bus and overwhelmed their public services.
In Sierra Vista here in Cochise County, they congregate outside the local Home Depot or Lowe's.
Cry me a river. Biden and Mexico's president can make a deal to legally transport some jaguars and ocelots to the US and put an end to millions of illegal alien humans crossing the border and disappearing if this is so important.
Then, illegal aliens should stop stupidly climbing tall barriers and harming themselves and their "children". These walls are designed to LEGALLY keep illegal aliens out of a sovereign nation. Ask permission to LEGALLY enter, and we will welcome you - just like tens of millions of refugees and immigrants did and still do.
Sure, but how will some containers and the White's Watch stop the Brown Walkers without dragons, Valerian Steel and the Red Witch?
Miss the part about there being concertina wire on top of them?
No wall is perfect. The point is to make entry as difficult as possible. A concept Brandon and Democrats are completely unfamiliar with.
[DELETED]
Is this anything like the debate about vampires versus werewolves?
He is trying to be cute and play the race card at the same time by using a Game of Thrones analogy.
The containers are the Night's Watch's wall of ice which is not efficient; poorly manned; and is easily brought down by a dragon corrupted by the White Walkers. Can't use anything nice so spins it to the White Watch; because every woke leftist knows the only reason that anyone would want to secure the border and end illegal immigration is to stop brown people from entering the country. Ignoring that Europeans, Asians, etc that enter this country legally and overstay their VISAs are also part of the problem and need to be removed. So instead of White Walkers like in the books; he uses Brown Walkers.
He missed the mark; but at least he tried.

Not to mention coyotes. I'll take the four legged variety over the two legged ones any day!
I am sorry butt, it is not okay you guys are dehumanizing our fellow men! It never ends well for anyone concerned. Do you also believe those who have enough money to fly here and hire an emigration attorney are animals or are only those who were so desperate they abandoned their homes and their families to walk here on foot subhuman?
I don't believe any of them (people from other countries) should be allowed to come here. This country is overcrowded and already has enough problems, we don' t need anymore.
What does that have to do with saying people are subhuman?
You are the only one here that has mentioned subhuman. [deleted]
I did not say they were subhuman, I said I don't want them here
[DELETED]
What is worse?
[deleted]
Lots and lots of Ocelots cause less problems than lots of illegal aliens
Are feral cats not subhuman?
Feral cats like illegal border crossers are problems, Feral cats cause problems for domestic cats and the parallel with people is obvious
Careful with the feral cat comparisons. You know how much a certain person loves jumping all over you for that!
I’m guessing these “environmental protestors” haven’t see the trash illegals leave behind on their illegal trek into this country?
Here is just one of many videos showing the trash and filth illegals leave on our side of the border. Dirty diapers, plastic water bottles, back packs, clothing, ammo, human feces. All show how illegal aliens have been destroying our nation's environment and wildlife.
This video dates back to 2009, and there are many more ...
From 2012 ...
Part 1 ...
Part 2 ...
Living literally six blocks distance from the border fence in SE Cochise County, I can absolutely agree with you and see it all the time! I got friends that live outside of town and they routinely find ravines on their property with all kinds of trash in them from illegals passing through. That does not include the human mules humping weed on their backs!
The illegal alien numbers in those videos are very outdated (2009 and 2012). With Biden's open border policy, we count them by tens of thousands per month and millions per year now. What a contrast!
Keep safe!
Likewise.
The Biden administration wants more than $3 billion to prep for a possible migrant surge at the border after Covid ban ends
Gee - the prior administration, SIX YEARS AGO, asked for $2B to SECURE the border and this bunch of azzwipes wants $3B to further open the border.
What friggin' idiots.
The number of attempted crossings is projected to increase by as much as 2,500 a day when the Covid ban ends, DHS officials said, and it could reach 10,000 .
And when the ban ends, instead of being sent back across the border, more migrants will have the chance to stay in the U.S. and claim asylum. The extra money is needed to process, shelter and transport them.
Without more space in border processing centers, the facilities could get overcrowded, just as they did in 2019, when migrants said they were being held in spaces too small to lie down to sleep .
The Biden administration has long planned for the lifting of Title 42 by streamlining the asylum process , allowing Border Patrol officers to conduct interviews and quickly deporting migrants. But it has warned that improving the process could take time and funding, claiming “it won’t be achieved overnight.”
DHS did not respond to a request for comment.
Point made - this administration doesn't give a futch about U.S. Citizens and their safety and wellbeing.
Why in the hell have we allowed them to stay if office????
America - where in the hell did it go?????
I would think your question would be
Where the hell did it come from?
Those who complain about climate change should support stopping immigration, when we reduce pollution our efforts at reduction are canceled by more foreigners coming here.
Is it conceivable to you that the earth and all people deserve respect?
Do people that lie about others here deserve respect?
Do people who illegally cross our border deserve respect?
Is overpopulation respectful to the earth?
Does a small percentage of Earth's people immigrating from one place to another effect the Earth's population? Nope!
yes it does. They need to be a problem where they were and not here
Also, they cost tax money that I have to pay into, so I have a valid reason to object to their presence here
How could one remember their comments if never sincere?
I believe therein lies our problem. Maybe you can try harder.
We don’t have a problem, you have an inability to backup your assertions.
Maybe I can try harder at what? Maybe you won’t ever cite a quote but just continue to make shit up.
No, immigration has zero effect on Earth's total population...
I bet those here before your ancestors said that about them.
Immigrants always have net positive effects on our economy.
Please Google it if you do not, cannot or will not believe me...

Really, why are you always so agitated, hostile and angry?
You say stuff that I question, deny saying it then get mad!
It has become like Groundhog Day. It's the same every day.
No when they have those great conferences about global warming they say the USA makes too much warming gases and is bad for that and our current leadership falls for that, We, citizens who have right to be here, have things forced on us to lower that, but letting foreigners in causes pollution numbers for the USA to go up and allows other countries and mouthy people to say Americans need to suffer to get lower numbers,
Therefore, more foreigners coming here makes things worse and more costly for US Citizens
[deleted]
No, you rarely question, you change something I’ve said and refuse to use actual quotes. I’ve never gotten mad except once when you insinuated that I lied about military service.
That's the problem when many foreigners come here and bring the problems of their native countries with them.
Unfortunately, we are talking about ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
You don't seem to be able to tell the difference.
Fact is that apparently neither can the current administration!
Is it not possible that taking so many containers out of circulation is one of the reasons why the supply issue is a problem?
Not really, lots of old containers are sold as storage sheds and many old 40 foot sea cans have their tops cut off and used with older intermodal railcars to haul trash and scrap metal. I see regular blocks of them on trains.
High winds regularly play havoc with heavily loaded 53ft common carrier trailers flipping them on their sides on the highways like toys.
What could possibly go wrong double stacking empty shipping containers in windy flat terrain for 3,000 feet?
(Note the dimensions are way off. A typical container is 40ft long, 9.5 ft high and 8 ft wide.)
These shipping containers can be secured to each other via AD54000A-1GA Shipping Container Locks (). These locks are used by intermodal shipping companies to connect various sizes of containers together for rail and truck shipment. These locks primarily used to secure a container to the truck / rail car it's being transported on.
These containers falling over doesn't happen as much as you think.
More than likely, because they won't be moved, they are welded together to ensure they will not fall over.
