Muslim Democrats give Biden ultimatum: Israel ceasefire by 5 or battleground states turn 'red' | Just The News
"We will mobilize increased voter turnout to make our voices heard," the council wrote.

The National Muslim Democratic Council, a nationwide group of Democratic leaders and activists, threatened President Joe Biden that if he does not force Israel to reach a ceasefire with Hamas, a U.S. State Department-designated foreign terrorist organization, by 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, they will work to mobilize against him in the 2024 presidential election.

"It has become evident that our voices are being ignored, but our votes will not be. Simply put, as Gaza turns red, so could crucial battleground states," the council said in a letter Monday to the White House and Democratic Party.

"Your administration's unconditional support, encompassing funding and armaments, has played a significant role in perpetuating the violence that is causing civilian casualties and has eroded trust in voters who previously put their faith in you," the group also wrote.

"We will mobilize increased voter turnout to make our voices heard," the council also wrote. It added that Michigan, a swing state with a large Muslim population that went for former President Donald Trump in 2016, went for Biden by 2.6% in 2020.

"We emphasize the significance of Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee, where many of our voters reside," the group also said.

More than 4.4 million Muslims live in the U.S., making up 1.3% of the population, according to the 2020 U.S. Religion Census conducted by the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies.

The council's letter only refers to Israel one time, stating: "We pledge to mobilize Muslim, Arab, and allied voters to withhold endorsement, support, or votes for any candidate who did not advocate for a ceasefire and endorse the Israeli offensive against the Palestinian people."

The letter does not mention Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, nor how the latest battle began when Hamas terrorists invaded Israel on Oct. 7, killing more than 1,400 people, including at least 31 U.S. citizens, and taking more than 200 people hostage.

It is highly unlikely a ceasefire will occur any time soon. On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism. That will not happen."

So we have The National Muslim Democratic Council siding with a known terrorist group threatening elections.  I really wish I could say I'm surprised that Democrats are siding with terrorists but I can't.

Seems Joe has a conundrum.  Might lose some Muslim vote for his stand and might lose some Jewish vote for the lackluster response to the rampant antisemitism mostly in Democratic cities and liberal campuses.

I wonder if the antisemitic squad is going to have a comment on this.

In general yes.  I wonder if this threat by the The National Muslim Democratic Council will embolden them to make some threats to not back Joe.

It would be fun to watch if they pulled their backing.  Imagine the hate and vitriol that they would be facing from within their own party.

And the hate and vitriol for Muslims/Arabs they will be causing among others who were not previously Islamophobic.

I don't know either but The National Muslim Democratic Council seems to want Biden to think so.

A 2017 study estimated that 3.45 million  Muslims  were living in the  United States , about 1.1 percent of the total U.S. population.

In 2020, the U.S. Religion Census found there to be 4.45 million Muslims in the country, making up 1.3% of the population. [3]

So let's say they are now approximately 1.5%. In and off itself its not a large number. But with our undemocratic Electoral College system, they might have a bigger effect in a few states with large Muslim population.(Maybe Michigan with large numbers in Dearborn, etc)

What would Hakeem Jeffries do?

(BTW, Jeffries has been a staunch defender of Israel and has condemned Hamas.  However, don't be surprised when Jeffries panders to terrorists for the good of the Democratic Party.)

Jeffries will fall right in step.  It's not like Democrats are afraid of appearing to be hypocrites on antisematic.

What do you hope to accomplish with this? Always an however that no one can predict? Or more likely just an opportunity to spew nonsensical, unfounded propaganda?

I imagine Nerm's goal is to have a question answered.  Why else ask it.  I doubt there is some hidden agenda in it.

The point is to highlight that Democrats represent a coalition of small special interests.  Democrats taking a firm position on any issue prompts an insurgence among the special interests with demands to elevate the special interests' priorities.

Democrats tend to pander more than lead.  Democrats tend to equivocate rather than govern.  The National Muslim Democratic Council believes Democrats can be coerced to comply with their demands (and Democrats will make every effort to appear to do so).

Which becomes hugely problematic during the inevitable situations where those special interests conflict with one another.

Funny stuff given that mike johnson has ascended to the speakership to placate the insurgents in his party.

Unlike the Republicans who are great at leading!
They took how long to do a simple thing like elect a speaker?
And with the type of leadership that had for (how long was it?) their lack of leadership resulted in the House doing...nothing!
For some time.

Well, I agree that Republicans have been much less than honest.  But Republicans typically don't pander.

The only reason the House Speaker was such a big deal is that it's unusual for Republicans to be so divided.  The breakdown of Republican unity should worry Democrats because Republicans are less predictable.  The Democrats' playbook has become obsolete.

Democrats have had this problem since Lyndon Johnson.  Yet they seem to pander their way out of these conflicts.  Buying votes does overcome a lot of activist angst.  Especially when Democrats are spending someone else's money.

I'm sure he's quaking in his boots. (To coin a phrase).

And how are they going to "Withold support"?

Just how many Muslims are there in the House anyway? Maybe...150?

Or just 30 or so?

Or...  ????
