Taiwan President Thanks Enes Kanter After Athlete Says Taiwan ‘At The Frontlines Against China’s Dictatorship’
Taiwan is not a part of China. Taiwan is a democratic and free country — and I stand with Taiwan. Did you know that even though Taiwan has their own history, their own government … their own elections, their own everything, Xi Jinping is stuck in his own world, claims Taiwan is a part of China, and [constantly] threatens to invade Taiwan. The country’s 24 million Taiwanese people just want to live peacefully and freely. They cherish freedom, human rights, and democracy. Taiwan is a force for...

Well said Enes Kanter! You are exactly right about all that you said.  Thanks for standing up to the powers that be and to tyrannical genocidal evil empire regimes. Thanks for saying what should be the obvious when it comes to freedom, democracy, and the right of a people to their own choices and self determination.  It was great that he mentioned the evil empires acts against the Uyghurs, Tibetans, and the people of Hong Kong.  Calling out his fellow Muslims for their silence regarding what the world sees as genocide against the Uyghurs was good too.  Long live the Boston Celtics!

On Friday, after Boston Celtics player Enes Kanter posted a video to his social media accounts in which he defended Taiwan’s sovereignty, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen responded.

“Thank you, Enes, for standing with Taiwan. We will always defend our hard-earned freedom and democracy,” the president said. “And the support from you and our friends around the world gives us strength. Taiwan is also home to many basketball fans, and we are all rooting for you.”

Kanter shared Tsai’s video on his Instagram, captioning it: “What an honor! Thank you to the president of Taiwan [Tsai Ing-wen] for your kind words. I can’t wait to come visit your beautiful country, learn about Taiwanese culture, taste some of your delicious food, and meet the brave people of Taiwan. We are stronger when we stand together.”

He capped off his response with an emoji of the Taiwanese flag.

Kanter said the following in his Friday video:

Taiwan is not a part of China. Taiwan is a democratic and free country — and I stand with Taiwan. Did you know that even though Taiwan has their own history, their own government … their own elections, their own everything, Xi Jinping is stuck in his own world, claims Taiwan is a part of China, and [constantly] threatens to invade Taiwan. The country’s 24 million Taiwanese people just want to live peacefully and freely. They cherish freedom, human rights, and democracy. Taiwan is a force for good. What the Chinese government is doing to Taiwan is even more proof that Xi Jinping and the Chinese regime are a threat to freedoms everywhere. We see what they are doing to Tibetans, Uyghurs, Hong Kongers. Taiwan is now at the frontlines against China’s dictatorship.
My message to all freedom supporters watching this today is: We are stronger together. We must all stand with Taiwan, support Taiwan, and defend democracy. We must keep Taiwan free and safe. Taiwan is already independent, and I believe and hope the country will be free and democratic forever. The future of Taiwan must be determined by the Taiwanese people.

Kanter has long been a vocal critic of his home nation’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. However, the Celtics player has recently come out swinging against China.

In mid-October, Kanter released a video calling on the Chinese Communist Party and President Xi Jinping to “ free Tibet .” He followed that initial post with another in which he spoke out against Uyghur Muslim enslavement in China, and referred to Xi as a “ heartless dictator .”

“Heartless dictator of China, Xi Jinping, and the Communist Party of China, I’m calling you out right now in front of the whole world,” Kanter said. “Close down the slave labor camps and free the Uyghur people. Stop the genocide now.”

The Celtics player has also called out fellow Muslim athletes over their silence, as well as Nike and LeBron James .The

Tsai thanked Kanter for “standing with Taiwan” and said the nation will “always defend hard-earned freedom and democracy.” She added that the support from him and other international friends “gives (Taiwan) strength.”

She also cheered the NBA player on, saying Taiwan’s basketball fans are rooting for him.

Kanter, who plays for the Boston Celtics, had tweeted a video earlier on Saturday, saying “Taiwan is not a part of China. Taiwan is a democratic and free country.” He noted that Taiwan has its own history, government, and elections.

Kanter also fired shots at Chinese leader Xi Jinping (習近平), saying he is “stuck in his own world” by constantly threatening to use force against Taiwan. He said that the whole world can see what Beijing is doing to Tibetans, Uyghurs, and Hongkongers.

The NBA player said the East Asian democracy “is at the frontline of China’s dictatorship,” adding, “we are stronger together, we must all stand with Taiwan.”

Upon seeing Tsai's video, Kanter replied , “I can’t wait to come visit your beautiful country, learn about Taiwanese culture, taste some of your delicious food, and meet the brave people of Taiwan.”

Earlier in the week, Kanter had tweeted photos of shoes with "Stand with Taiwan," "Democracy," and Independence" painted on them, along with the message “Taiwan will never surrender to the Evil Chinese Communist Party.” The custom paint job was done by Chinese dissident artist Badiucao (巴丢草), who lives in Australia.

Taiwan is a great nation.  It is a free market economy.  It is a democracy that follows the will of the people it represents. They respect human rights, individual and religious liberty, and economic freedom there. The future of the people of Taiwan belongs to the people of Taiwan to make as they see fit.

I believe it would help a lot if Taiwan would stop calling itself “Republic of China.” It’s kind of hard to argue that you aren’t China when you keep referring to yourself as China. I think it might make it a little easier for other countries to recognize them as an independent nation. But many within Taiwan still think the government of Taiwan is the rightful government of all of China, including the mainland. That is just never going to work.

That’s a hold over from the prior party that ruled over Taiwan since 1949 when they were the government of China until after they lost the civil war to the commies and remained in power there.  Of course ethnic Chinese are a minority of the island’s population and prior to the nationalists escaping there, Taiwan was part of Japan for quite some time.  The name isn’t really an issue with me as much as their democracy, freedom, liberty, and rights of self determination are.  I’m sure the people who elected their current President wouldn’t mind if their nation had nothing of China at all including the name.

"Did you know that even though Taiwan has their own history, their own government … their own elections, their own everything,...."  Taiwan was ORIGINALLY and HISTORICALLY a part of the whole of China, BEFORE Japan.  Americans like Kanter would be a lot better off focusing on their own problems, which are quite a few, than being concerned about somewhere on the other side of the world that is no threat to the "American interests".  He says he's a Muslim, then maybe he doesn't know that the vast majority of Muslims in China are no less free than anyone else there to pray in their mosques, carry on their businesses, live anywhere peacefully, educate their children and get the same social benefits that everyone else does.  It's only separatist, religious extremist and terrorist Muslims who are not being slaughtered, but re-educated to be peaceful, secure, happy, citizens of China.

And personally, as for Hong Kong, I see no fault in the CPC making certain that nobody can subvert the fact the in a couple of decades it will legally, in accordance with the agreement with Great Britain, become part of mainland China subject to the government of the whole, NOTWITHSTANDING America's attempts to interfere.

That’s a sickening way to describe concentration camps.

Says the person who lives in a country that put loyal Japanese Americans in internment camps, separated immigrant refugees from their children, many of whom are beyond reconstituting, STILL carry on the Gitmo torture camps (trying to hide them in other countries doesn't fool anyone) and has the highest incarceration rate in the world.

I don't defend anything, I simply correct the article's, the seeder's and your misconceptions.  And your comment is a bit selective - so what about the other matters I mentioned, do you not defend them as well, and if you do then "People who live in glass houses....." etc.

The difference is that free nations, democracies learn from mistakes and move on from them. The only obstacle to China being the dominant economy and military in the world are the free market economy/ political democracies of the world working together in concert against totalitarian authoritarian imperialism.  Capitalism and democracy and people who believe in them are arch enemies #1 to Winnie the Pooh chairman Xi’s ambitions.  The English speaking ones the biggest enemies of all.

I seeded an article about the interaction between a Turkish Muslim NBA player and the democratically elected President of the Republic of China on Taiwan.  Nothing more.  I do support the concept that only the people of Taiwan should have any say as to what their future is.

"I seeded an article about the interaction between a Turkish Muslim NBA player and the democratically elected President of the Republic of China on Taiwan.  Nothing more."

Right above the words "SEEDED CONTENT" in this article the following words are posted, which I assume YOU posted, which makes it part of the topic here

"It was great that he mentioned the evil empires acts against the Uyghurs, Tibetans, and the people of Hong Kong.  Calling out his fellow Muslims for their silence regarding what the world sees as genocide against the Uyghurs was good too."

It is for reasons like this that your articles and comments are either ignored or trivialized by members here who happen to use their brains.  I'm embarrassed for having wasted my time even reading it.

I do support the concept that only the people of Taiwan should have any say as to what their future is.

The CCP never ruled Taiwan and they have as much an historical  claim  to invade Taiwan as the Italians do to conquer France.

Biden says Taiwan's independence is up to Taiwan after discussing matter with Xi

(CNN) President Joe Biden made clear Tuesday evening he was not encouraging Taiwan's "independence" after using the word an hour earlier to describe the progress he made during a discussion of the island with his Chinese counterpart Monday evening.

"I said that they have to decide -- Taiwan, not us. We are not encouraging independence," Biden said on an airport tarmac in New Hampshire, where he was promoting his recently signed infrastructure law .

"We're encouraging that they do exactly what the Taiwan Act requires," he went on, referring to the 1979 law dictating the American approach to the island. "That's what we're doing. Let them make up their mind. Period."

Explaining his position earlier while greeting attendees following his infrastructure speech, Biden said he had made limited progress on the topic with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"We made very clear we support the Taiwan Act, and that's it," he said, shaking hands near a rickety iron bridge in sore need of repair.

"Its independence," he went on. "It makes its own decisions."

China and Taiwan's relationship explained 02:38
The various explanations of his approach to the issue underscored the fraught position Taiwan now holds in the deteriorating relationship between Washington and Beijing. Tensions have been running high as China increases its military posturing and warplane flights around the self-ruled island.

The word "independence" is a trigger when it comes to Taiwan; officially, the US does not support Taiwan's independence. Instead, the countries enjoy unofficial relations and the US provides defensive support.

The approach is sometimes termed "strategic ambiguity," and has caused previous trip-ups for both Biden and his presidential predecessors. Last month, when Biden said during a CNN town hall that the US was committed to coming to Taiwan's defense if it came under attack from China, the White House said he was not announcing any change in policy.

The issue consumed the most time of any during Biden's lengthy virtual summit with Xi on Monday evening. Ahead of time, the Chinese signaled it was their most important priority to discuss with the US.

In the talks, Biden raised his concerns over China's behavior in the region. While he reaffirmed the US "One China" policy, which recognizes Beijing's claim of sovereignty but allows for US defense ties with Taiwan, he voiced worry that China's actions were destabilizing the region.

The charged nature of the topic was evident immediately after Biden and Xi's summit, which stretched a longer-than-expected three-and-a-half hours. Chinese State Television reported almost as soon as the summit concluded that Biden affirmed to Xi the US did not support Taiwan's independence.

US officials downplayed the significance of the statement, noting it was longstanding official US policy. Instead, they said Biden made clear to Xi the US opposes any change to the status quo, or any actions that "undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."….

Kantor did something actually  brave, standing up to  a murderous regime that throws its own people in jail for differing from the party line takes courage. His employer punishes people for criticizing China, those who cut endorsement checks want to be on China's good side, and the media keeps is all to happy to go along.

In 2021 America,  "bravery" by an athlete consists of parroting left wing causes that corporate sponsors can spend millions of dollars amplifying and that will reward their "bravery" with million dollar book deals, endorsements and universally fawning press coverage. Kneeling to the flag is most profitable thing an athlete can do and you get called "brave" to boot.  . Ask Megan Rapinoe.

You'll notice Kantor isn't getting the lauded by the America  media for his bravery or rewarded with million dollar endorsement deals by multi national corporations like Nike.  They prefer the fake bravery of the Rapinoes and Kaepernicks that everyone profits off of. .
