ACTION MOVIE QUIZ
ACTION MOVIE QUIZ
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.
PLEASE, PLEASE, READ WHAT IS BELOW IN ORDER TO GET A BETTER SCORE. I HAVE DECIDED TO BE MUCH MORE LENIENT IN MY SCORING AND HAVE DONE AWAY WITH MANY OF THE RULES. .
For this quiz, besides the two image clues, the third clue is that the movie MUST be rated as an "action movie" , and it could be any genre. None of the movies are TOO old (well, maybe one is but it's a very popular classic) and all of them appear on Best Action Movies lists. I have only seen 12 of these movies myself, so for most of them just identifying the clue images should give you a good idea what the movie is, but as always, some clues are of an item or scenario that is a primary object in or otherwise indicative of or important to the plot and you will probably have to have seen the movie to identify it. A lot of the movies were included in previous quizzes, but even if so I tried not to use the same image clues, and as usual I don't think any of the image clues are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your movie memory, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating, but once you think you know the answer I recommend that you check to make sure it is correct. Participants keep losing points because they fail to do that.
THE RULES
I am being much more lenient and you will not lose score for not capitalizing or using proper punctuation or adding an extraneous or leaving off a "the" or "A", but I will have to make a decision between your just naming what the clues are and the actual movie name. Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie, which is why I recommend that you check to make sure the name is correct, because the images may only be a CLUE to the ACTUAL name of the movie. Remakes of original movies with the same name will be acceptable. If you name movies that I feel the clues identify as well or better than the ones I used, I have been accepting them as good answers as well. TV programs and TV series such as West Wing are not answers, but I will accept TV movies like QB VII (which is an adaptation of a novel) or some miniseries if they are an adaptation of a novel that is too long for one showing and are spread out, like the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
There are some hard ones to guess, and also some very easy ones, so give it a try and NAME THESE MOVIES.
Please number your answers the same as the images.

A couple of members had suggested that I do an action movie quiz, and so here it is. Now that many are on holidays, hopefully you will have time to participate in this one, so READ THE INTRO in order to not make mistakes, read the rules, and remember as always....
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS HERE IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
In case anyone has not yet seen the results of the Christmas Movie Quiz, here is a link to the results -> ->
I forget to to send a PN . I did answer some of them.
how to, not to to.
Your name appears on a banner at the top right of the screen. With your mouse (or finger if you're using a laptop) move the cursor on top of your name but do not click it. That will open a menu below it and lower down on the menu you will see the words "Group Messages". Move your cursor on that choice and click it. It will open a screen with boxes that need to be filled. Type the word "Buzz" in the top one, that should open my full name just under it but if it doesn't just keep entering my full name "Buzz of the Orient", then click on my full name where it appears under the box. The next box will ask what subject, just type in "Movies" and send. Below those boxes you have the space to type your message and fill in your answers.
I might know a few
I believe I have 18 of them, two are completely escaping me at this time... I refuse to use google, I feel that is cheating, and it cost me a half point last time... So I guess I'll spend the time till the end letting them bake in the mind for a while and see if anything connects... At that point I will decide on submission no more early submissions for me...
Agreed. It's best to spend more time trying to interpret the clues for the couple that don't come right at you.
Well it is also action movies, a category that covers like seven different genre's from Kung fu/Karate movies to Children's Fantasies... 10's of thousands of movies....
You need not consider thousands of movies. There are not that many "Best Action Movie" lists, and all of the movies I used were chosen from them, and must be in order to qualify, as I stated in the Introductory info.
Ok, then tell us which list you pulled them from? Of course that would defeat the purpose of a contest now wouldn't it... Hence there are thousands of movies that could qualify as "Action" that is the only point I was making..
In fact both Wiki and IMDB make that exact same point... just because it is on someone's list of what they consider action movies it may not be on someone else's list.... I have two movies that fit the clues for one of them, but one is a drama and one a comedy... now according to my lists and the introductory info I can't use them cause they are not action movies... And watching them they are as far from action movies as I have understood action movies...
You see the problem? Being an action movie from a list you possess and have chosen from does not mean it's an action movie on all lists or is even officially credited as an "Action" movie..
But that is our problem...
Buzz, ignore him. I turned in my answers - mostly wrong, but had fun trying to figure them out....
At least 21 different members have participated at one time or another in my movie quizzes. Only three have ever complained about them. I realized that one was really right and become much more lenient about my rules. One bitched about something for every quiz I posted, and is no longer participating. You're the third. I don't force anyone to participate, and most play them for the challenge and the fun they experience.
Sorry you feel that a discussion is a complaint, I enjoyed the technical conversations we used to have, I thought you did as well, evidently I'm wrong....
I won't bother you about it anymore...
No, Veronica, I don't ignore Nowhere Man. In the past he provided my movie group with benefits I could never have done myself, and even though we have had our differences, it has not affected my respect for him.
Well, you beat me to the punch. I hope you realize that I posted my reply to Veronica before I saw your somewhat huffy reply.
Not a "Huffy" reply I didn't realize I was complaining, I love movies, almost everything about them from scripts to frame rates... I will not complain anymore...
Okay, but I still like to discuss. If you don't, I'll quote what Tom Cruise said to the dying Samurai leader in The Last Samurai, "I will miss our conversations."
That may be - but I would watch my back if I were you.
It's okay, Veronica, I'm on the other side of the world,
That may be, but I enjoy having you around this site and I have seen things that leave me with a bad taste...just saying....
The only thing that can stop me from being on this site would be my no longer being alive.
Working on it, only have 14 figured out so far...
At this point in time 6 members have participated, and although nobody has a perfect score as yet, each question has received at least 2 correct answers, so because none of the questions are impossible to answer all will remain as is.
I've been thinking about future quizzes, and although there are genres I've not yet used such as politics, film noir, comedy, etc. I was thinking of a quiz restricted to those in which a specific well known actor appears. There are quite a few top rated actors who have acted in many films, but it may include some films that go back to the more classic ones. For example, John Wayne acted in somewhere close to 200 movies, Sean Connery acted in at least 100, Bette Davis appeared in around 90, Meryl Streep, still acting, has more than 70 to her credit already.
ooooo, while I would enjoy that I also think that would be a tough quiz... As you said, some of those have been in so many films. Taking John Wayne as an example, how many war movies was he in? So clues would be tough to pinpoint the movie... such fun. I say go for it but plan on low scores and some probably upset people...
Yeah, I suppose it could be limiting, but it would do away with disagreements as to whether or not the movie is of a specific genre as I've been doing recently, and whether or not the movie is on a best of the genre list. I suppose certain members would make a difference if the actor were a favourite or not.
I think Snuffy has a good point, but this in particular wouldn't bother me in any way...
16
And how many westerns?
Best movie lists can run into many hundreds, whereas John Wayne has around 200, and the next best I could see with a cursory search was Sean Connery with around 100. By limiting the possibilities that much it should make the quizzes easier. As it is now, I'm getting alternative movies that still fit the clues, movies I didn't even come across before, but usually they're not on the best of genre lists.
89 according to IMDB, but, also according to IMDB he was only in 149 movies total, Personally, I believe without doing an actual count it is closer to 190...
I know that my friend..... That's all I was trying to point out...
I'm concerned about something. Up until today I had no trouble opening IMDb, the site I rely on mostly for information I need for creating and scoring my quizzes. Today I can't open the site at all, and I hope it's only a temporary or world-wide problem soon to be corrected. However, it is going to make it much more difficult for me to create quizzes from now on if China has blocked that site. Can you check and see if you can open it, just check an IMDb article for any movie and let me know what happens.
I'm able to open IMDb with no problem, Buzz.
Then either it's a technical problem with China that hopefully will be fixed, or I'm screwed.
Phew, I was able to open it using Baidu, but not Bing.
same here...
I'll be okay as long as I can still open it on Baidu.
I got a lot of them, but not all of them.
Okay, and do you intend to send them to me?
My Olympia has fallen. Yesterday I was able to open IMDb using a Chinese browser, today I am unable to access it with any browser available to me. Now that it has become impossible for me to access IMDb through any browser, English or Chinese, the site that was necessary for me to create and accurately score movie quizzes based on genre, also now makes it difficult to create and score quizzes using any other method. Creating and scoring movie quizzes was one of the passtimes I enjoyed most spending my time doing. My next quiz will therefore be based on specific actors as I suggested, and if that doesn't work for me I will try other methods, go back to using questions like true/false, multiple choice, etc from my knowledge of movies I've watched as I did a while ago.
I think I would do better on a q & a one. I looked and once again, I knew one, the last one.
So far two members out of the seven who have played so far have not been able to answer the last one correctly.
Sorry bout that Buzz, I know how much you liked doing it that way... it's a damned shame when governments can control what it's citizens can and cannot view....
Thanks, NWM. As you can see, although there are reasons I like living here, there are also reasons why I'm not at all happy about about some things this government has done. But then, depending on who is in power at the time, it seems to me that a lot of Americans are not exactly thrilled with their government either.
This quiz will be closed two days from now. Eight members have participated and if any more are intending to submit their answers, please do it soon.
Good news!!! I found another site that may not be quite as helpful as IMDb, but it's pretty good, and will enable me to continue to post good movie quizzes and make scoring easier.
By this time tomorrow this quiz will be closed and the results announced. I have already prepared the next quiz that will be posted around that time as well. It will be movies in which Gregory Peck has acted. He has acted in around 70 movies, and that limited number increases your chances to get great scores.
Sent my answers and guess in
Received and scored.
No sense keeping this quiz open any longer so it is now closed. 10 members have participated. Here are the results: There is a tie for 1st place - Veronica and Snuffy each got 18 out of 20. Second place went to Nowhere Man with 17, and Perrie came in third with 16 1/2. Honourable Mention goes to Split Personality who both got 16. As I said already, all the movies were identified so it went well, thanks to all who played. Here are the answers so those who didn't participate can discover the fun they didn't want to have.
1. Black Hawk Down - a black hawk & a down arrow
2. Dirty Harry - girl showing dirty hands & a very hairy dog
3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - a crouching tiger & a dragon
4. Kill Bill - a person killing another & a bill requiring payment
5. The Fifth Element - Roman numeral for 5 & the 4 elements
6. I Robot - an eye & a robot
7. Con Air - a convict behind bars & a passenger airplane
8. Fight Club - people fighting & a playing cards club image

10. Ford v Ferrari - a model T Ford & a Ferrari
11. Baby Driver - a baby & a chauffeur
12. Star Trek - a star & a man on a hike (i.e. a trek - common synonym for "hike")
13. Blade Runner - an ice skate blade & a man running
14. Letters From Iwo Jima - alphabet letters & the iconic Iwo JIma flag raising
15. The French Connection - a fleur de lis (French symbol) & 2 people connecting
16. Smoking Aces - a person smoking & the four card-playing aces

18. The Adventures of Robin Hood - a golden arrow & Richard the Lion Hearted
19. Seven Samurai - pair of dice showing 7 & a Samurai sword
20. Point Break - a man pointing & a pencil being broken
Because I no longer have access to IMBd I am unable to create any more genre quizzes, but I have now posted a quiz based on movies in which Gregory Peck has acted. Give that one a try so I can see whether or not it's worth doing more of them. Here is the link in case the new one gets pushed off the Front (Home) Page by the multitude of political rants. -> ->
.
Congrats Veronica, also to Nowhere Man & Perrie and to all who played.
Thanks Buzz, another fun quiz.
Oooops!!! I forgot to type in Dig, who tied with Split Personality for Honourable Mention. I'm sorry Dig.
Here I thought you were being clever, lol
. It actually took me about 10 seconds to read what I said again and then understand what you meant - you deserve your honourable mention to include that as well.
