Bakery That Refused To Serve Lesbian Couple Raises Record Amount
The Oregon bakers fined for refusing to make a wedding cake for a lesbian coupleraised a record-breaking $358,500 on a religious crowdfunding site more than 2 1/2 the $135,000 state penalty they faced.Supporters of Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein raised more money than any previous campaign in the history of the Wisconsin faith-based Continue to Give crowdfunding website, its founder tells the Washington Times. The Oregonian reports as of Wednesday the campaign had raised $358,500 from 7,750 donors, more than doubling the $150,000 goal announced when it began May 5.Along with $109,000 raised through GoFundMe, and an undisclosed amount through Samaritan's Purse, online donors have come up with nearly $450,000 to help the Kleins in their legal battle with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries agency's finding that they discriminated against the women. The Kleins argued they refused service to the couple based on their Christian beliefs against same-sex marriage... The Oregonian reports the Kleins, in a statement, were "humbled and thankful." http://www.newsmax.com/t/newsmax/article/657544

It seems that popular opinion inevitably sides with the people who are supporting their conscience . Look what happened with Chic Filet ...

That's right. There is a lot of public support for people with high moral standards who are willing to risk all they have in this world to stand up for their beliefs.

"The amount shows that Americans all over this country are acting on their beliefs and loudly saying that they do not agree with a government that punishes people for their religious beliefs," the statement said, the Oregonian reports. How to disperse the money is not yet been worked out, the couple says.

I'm sure Jesus is just so proud of the Kleins.

I don't know if He is or isn't. It's not like they refused to serve them in their business because they were gay. They refused to participate in an event that goes against everything they believe in by writing on the cake and buying and supplying top pieces and other decorations against their values.

That's right. We are in a culture war domestically and whom ever the progressive left persecutes, we are going to protect. We intend to frustrate the anti Chritian bigots at every turn and continue to resist our slouching toward Gomorrah to borrow a book title. We will not simply go quietly into the night on these religious liberty issues.

Being true to your faith is not necessarily bigotry. A distinction that is too subtle for some social justice jihadists.

It's clear that you are a person who enjoys sitting in judgment on others, and I find that despicable. Amen? For the Kleinsand their supporters to beupset because they feel the government is punishing them for their beliefs, is preposterous. What in the hell do they think they did to the couple that simply wanted to order a cake? The hypocrisy is nauseating. And PS: I'm wondering who gave the Kleins the right to sit in judgment and dole out punishment, especially when their own backyard is chocked full of shun-worthy items.

Fact: Prior to this event, the Kleins had absolutely no religious affiliation whatsoever. How lucky for them that when they needed religious backing to legitimize their crowd funding, not to mention getting a huge tax break on the money that was rolling in, there were a dozen different religious affiliations eager to jump on their band wagon...for a cut of the donations, of course.

Fact: The Kleins were in financial trouble before any of this self-inflicteddrama began, and it's no wonder. Aaron Klein can't stay sober long enough to drive around the block without adding to hissomewhat impressiveDUI arrest record.

Fact: The Kleins told reporters back in 2013 that their business had tripled after the event, and that they had to hire an extrabaker. Keep in mind that they solicited funds from the public back then, as well.Nevertheless, ashort timelater, the Kleinssay they were forced to close the bakery due to financial difficulties. Yeah, those new cars and that new house and Melissa's new boobswere quite the drain, weren't they?

Prediction: The Kleins will be back asking for more money in about 18 months. The fine will still be unpaid, theirtithe check will have been lost in the mail, and 3 of their 6 new cars will have been repo'd. Amen, again?

Oh, and this:

How to disperse the money is not yet been worked out, the couple says.

...isn't entirely accurate. Aaron Klein has spoken at length about the first thing he and his wife will do with the money, which is take a nice long vacation.

It's not like they refused to serve them in their business because they were gay.

That is exactly what happened.

They refused to participate in an event that goes against everything they believe in by writing on the cake and buying and supplying top pieces and other decorations against their values.

They were asked to bake a cake, not be ring bearer and flower girl. And, as I've told you previously when you said this exact same thing, the ordering process never progressed to the point of discussing cake dcor. They were told to leave thebuildinga few seconds afterAaron Klein asked the name of the groom. He had no idea if the ladies wanted a traditional Bavarian cream with cascading flowers, or a big vagina sporting the latest in Brazilian-trimmed hautecouture.

Exactly right Sister! It was discrimination from the very start and that is illegal. If a bunch of bigots want to raise money for them, go for it, but it doesn't make THEM any less of bigots themselves and criminals who violated the law.

A block or ignore feature would add a lot to this site.

Hopefully when we move to the new host it'll have an ignore feature. Until then I just ignore them anyway since their silly-assed remarks and childish opinions are not worth theeffort. The are three or four on here that you learn to just write off as idiots and move on.

Discrimination is not a "religious liberty" it is an affront to polite society.

It is to the right wing of this country. Discrimination only happens TO them. When they do it, it's exercising their religious rights and freedom.

Everyone should be forced to have a pair of male homos for an overnight stay at their place . Enjoy watching what happens ... without getting sick to your stomach .

They are and it's sad to see. If they can't succeed in content control and censorship of divergent opinion, they then want the ability to not only ignore it but not have to see it at all. How shallow minded and intellectually weak!

Really? I'd never think of blocking someone who was atheist and or leftist progressive. I'd rather know what they are saying and thinking and have the option to respond at times. I guess that the difference between an open minded person and one who is not.

Good for them.

The government should not be in the business of forcing citizens to participate in religious activities they disagree with.

Well said. They'd rather talk to each other and preach to their choir than have to interact in a civil manner with those they disagree with.
