Photographs and memories are all Tanner Brownlee has left of his father, a Denver police officer who lost his life in the line of duty in 2010.
Last night, Tanner had the opportunity to claim one of his dad's prized possessions , but it didn't work out as he had planned.
The Weld County Sheriff's Office auctioned off their dad's Dodge Charger on Wednesday night. The vehicle, with 147,000 miles, was being sold to raise money for C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors), an organization that provides services for survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Tanner started a GoFundMe page to raise money to bid on the squad car, but as the bids reached $50,000, Tanner's limit had clearly come and gone.
The car sold for $60,000 to a local rancher. Tanner didn't know Steve Wells before that night, but won't be able to forget him now.
See the video below...
Deeds, not words, you will know them by their acts.
Now THAT is the kind of story I love. Actually wet in the eyes over that one.
Now THAT, is honoring the man....
Brought tears to mine also when I heard it on the radio today.
Blubbering like a fool, I am.
Thanks for this one, NM. We needed it around heretoday.
What a touching story! I'm in tears!
Thanks for this! Thanks, very much!
Although I couldn't open the video to see what happened I could tell from the comments. Love this kind of story - it shows that there is still some goodness in the world.
