The Story to "Hey Bulldog" and Other Ramblings

In 1969, The Beatles released "Hey Bulldog" on "Yellow Submarine". I was 9 years old at the time, but even back then, I knew a song that rocked and that song rocked. It quickly became one of my all time favorite Beatles songs even though for most, it went almost forgotten.

I went on to learn guitar and then the bass and was in my first band by the age of 16. I only played a "P" bass, otherwise known as the Precision and it was thud like no other bass had, which fit my bands music, since we were mostly a Zeppelin and Floyd cover band. But the one song I insisted on playing was "Bulldog" and brother, we could rock that song with my "P" bass banging the hell out of that riff.  It quickly became a favorite of our followers and we would only ramp it up from the energy they fed us.

So recently, I found an interesting mini doc on the making of the song "Hey Bulldog" It only made me love the song more, as if that was possible.

So here is the mini doc, followed by the very rare footage of the Beatles recording it. Enjoy!

I remember that. Of course I had long forgotten the title. As soon as the first chord was strummed, it all came back.

Thanks

Perrie;

Very cool video. Thanks for sharing.

The Beatles were the primary reason I got into music as a kid. Their presence was galvanizing - I'd never seen anything like them.

I spent a number of years in road bands - did a little studio work and eventually found I was just talented enough to never find real success. After some dozen years traveling tens of thousands of miles, playing in hundreds of smoky and dimly lit roadhouses, meeting a multitude of nefarious agents and club owners and watching people I loved struggle with inner demons - I came to know two things; I'd never want to repeat the journey, and I wouldn't trade the memories or the true friends I met along the way for anything.

I could just imagine our wondefull RA rocking bass like Paul....

That is something I would have paid money to see, lots of money....

psst: I always knew George played the solo, John and Paul although great in their own fashion at the time, wasn't as advanced in their guitar skills as George was... and that riff was very advanced for it's day.
