Trump attorney Cohen is being investigated for possible bank fraud, campaign finance violations, according to a person familiar with the case

FBI agents on Monday raided the Manhattan office of President Trump’s private lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, seizing records about Cohen’s clients, including those related to a 2016 payment he made to adult-film star Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had a sexual encounter with Trump.

Among the documents seized were privileged communications between Cohen and his clients — including those with Trump, according to a person familiar with the investigators’ work. Investigators took Cohen’s computer, phone and personal financial records as part of the search of his office at Rockefeller Center, the person said.

I don't know if that is what they are looking for John, I know that they presented a search warrant at his office, home and, hotel room today to get records but, according to MSNBC nothing has been said about why.

Ok, they just said on MSNBC that it is for evidence of bank fraud as well as evidence of the payment to Stormy Daniels. Wonder if they will find anything about money laundering as well.

Michael Cohen and Donald Trump are not the type of people who can withstand serious investigation.

If the feds look into the dealings of these people they will find criminal activity.  The question is what will be done about it.

That scene is so cool.

And probably remembered by many Americans.

I've seen the visual-- but a while back I discovered a record on it-- it was . . . very interesting, actually.

And really cool-- music to read NT comments by!

Someone please explain how this has anything to do with the supposed purpose of "RUSSIAN COLLUSION"?????

I mean - that's what Mueller is "supposed" to be investigating, right?

Can you explain how an investigation into Whitewater developed into an investigation into Bill Clinton getting a blowjob from an intern?

The no-knock search warrant that Trump calls part of a “witch hunt” today was sought by a US Atty appointed by Trump and was granted by a Senate-confirmed Art. III Judge under the strictest constitutional standards. Absurd. https://cnn.com/2018/04/09/pol…

Please read the news. Spoiler: the raid was authorized by the US attorney from the SDNY -- a Trump appointee.

Which means Trump granting a presidential pardon won't work in this case, it is a state issue, the presidential pardon only works for federal cases.

IIRC, that is what Mueller is supposed to be investigating, but he was also granted the power to investigate any other potential crimes that came up in the course of that investigation.

That's right. This probably has nothing to do with the Mueller investigation of collusion or obstruction. However as a Prosecutor if he runs across evidence of another crime during his investigation he can not just ignore it. He must refer it to another prosecutor who would be interested in it for a possible investigation. I mean suppose Mueller was looking through a computer of someone he was investigating and found out the someone committed a bank robbery. Certainly he has to pass that information on to the proper prosecutor in the district where the crime took place. He can not just ignore it.

The Trump Presidency has been a bad joke from the moment he was elected, and yes, it has gone on far too long.

There are some questions we may never know the answer to, but just asking them pisses off the Trumpites.

Would Donald have won if America knew about Stormy before the election?

Would Donald have won if they had known about the $130,000 pay off to said porn actress to keep her quiet just weeks before the election?

Would Donald have won if Russia hadn't been feeding the Trumpites BS conspiracy theories about Hillary running a child sex ring out of a pizza parlor or was somehow behind Seth Rich's murder?

Would Donald have won if Facebook hadn't allowed the theft of 87 million users profiles enabling the focused targeting of Americans through social media?

Would Donald have won if Russia hadn't illegally stolen DNC emails and released them to wikileaks within hours of the Access Hollywood open mic tapes of Donald admitting he doesn't "even wait" for women's consent before grabbing them by the genitals?

Would Donald have won if Jim Comey hadn't announced the reopening of the Hillary email investigation but instead had notified us of the fact that the Trump campaign was under an active investigation into whether was already compromised by the Putin regime?

I think any sane sensible person with access to more than half their brain would come to the conclusion the answer would be a resounding "Hell No!" to just about any one of those questions, let alone all of them combined. So while late night comedians have more joke fodder than they can shake a stick at, and the 35% of Trump loyalists guffaw at how their moron-in-chief won and is demolishing the government they've grown to hate because it's been protecting minorities and allowing gays and lesbians to prosper unhindered, the rest of us continue to suffer this terrible sick joke of an administration.

How about all the corrupt  Witches Mueller has actually discovered? Those Witches under indictment...as well as those Witches actually charged with a crime.

In an attempt to make this story go away-- should we also get rid of those Witches as well? We could do that in regards to several of  those Witches that have broken the law.

How? Well, we could do it by:

Locking them up, locking them up!

And no one will know until the investigation is complete. Mueller is sitting on a mountain of information and evidence that he is not ready to present. Just because he is not ready to make his case public, does not mean there are not a lot of people who are going to be named are criminals, even and likely Trump.

So far from what has been seen this administration is filled with massive amounts of cancer. Everywhere you look you see nothing but cancerous corruption. People being fired for ethics violations and some still working whose ethics are criminal. More shady connects with Russians then any other administration in history and the kid glove approach to Putin. Almost every person connected with or has been connected with this administration is criminally corrupt in one way or another. Several indictments. Guilty pleas. More people on the verge of flipping. General Mattis is the only one we hope will keep this mentally unhinged megalomaniac from pushing the buttons. John Dean told Nixon that there was a cancer on the Presidency and he was right. In this case the entire administration is cancerous. There is none of it not infected and dying. America is in more danger now then since WWII.

It a Catch-22 for him. If he fires Mueller he can stop the investigation.

But then it becomes glaringly obvious that he's committed a definite Obstruction of Justice.

Much of the American public would become outraged (including many Republicans).

Actually I think you're right. It doesn't have to keep going down the chain of command-- he just has to appoint a new one. (And BTW, there is a rumour circulating that after that he plans to do just that-- also that he intends to fire Rosenstein and replace him with...Scott Pruitt!

Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller so he is the one who has to fire him. If Trump fire Rosenstein and replaces him with someone else then that person could for Mueller. They used to have the power to appoint a special prosecutor themselves, but the allowed that law to lapse. In order to appoint one they would have to pass a new law by enough of a margin the they could over ride a Trump veto.

Actually it's the US Attorney who sought the warrant who is the Trump appointee and a Republican.    He's the guy who Trump put in there after he unceremoniously fired Preet Bharara because he was getting too close.

Washington (CNN)Former US Attorney Preet Bharara said Monday that the FBI raids of Michael Cohen's office and hotel room were done by officials who were all "handpicked" by President Donald Trump.

"If the reporting is true, particularly the part about this being approved by the Southern District of New York Attorney's Office which I used to lead, are all people who are Republican, and all people who have basically been handpicked by Donald Trump," Bharara, now a senior CNN legal analyst, said on " The Situation Room."
