Israel Allocates Millions to Boost Hi-Tech in Arab Sector

Israel has allocated a massive budget to boost hi-tech among Israeli-Arabs, creating thousands of new jobs for them.

Israel’s Parliamentary Committee for Arab Affairs approved on Monday a NIS 20 million (appr. US$5,600,000) investment in favor of implementing a new program to establish hi-tech industrial parks in Israeli-Arab cities.

The plan was drafted by an inter-ministerial team led by the Prime Minister’s Office.

“The plan is expected to create conditions for the creation of thousands of new jobs in the areas of development, software and services, and to contribute to narrowing the gap between supply and demand for hi-tech employment in Arab society,” the committee said in a statement.

The funds will be allocated to build hi-tech parks in Arab Towns, such as Nazareth in the Galilee, Kfar Qassem and in the Negev region.

According to Sami Saadi, co-CEO at Tsofen Building High-Tech in the Arab Society – a non-profit organization founded in 2008 by Arab and Jewish hi-tech and civil society leaders to facilitate the integration of Arab citizens into hi-tech firms and the expansion of hi-tech in Arab towns – the program will first be implemented in Nazareth and Kfar Qassem.

“The committee has instructed the Ministry of Economy to implement the decision within 90 days. A call for bids will be sent to the Arab authorities and I expect that Nazareth and Kfar Qassem will win.” Saadi told Tazpit Press Service (TPS).

“The High Tech Park will create jobs for 3,000 engineers and thousands more jobs in the services sector,” Saadi said. “There are 15 High Tech parks in Israel, none of them in the Arab sector and the new parks will help the Arab sector to develop economically and better integrate into Jewish Israeli society.”

Israel’s Arab citizens comprise around 18 percent of the country’s workforce, but according to a study published in August 2017 by the Ministry of Finance, Israeli Arabs account for only 1.4 percent of technology jobs.

According to Tsofen, there are currently some 2,755 Arab students studying hi-tech professions at universities in Israel, a sharp rise from 1,492 in 2012, and there are now 5,000 Israeli-Arab engineers compared to only 300 in 2008. Approximately 25 percent of them are women.

A very sensible move. Educated Arabs with good jobs are less likely to become terrorists.

LOL when Obama proposed the same thing about ISIS terrorists he was immediately reticulated and called a muslim sympathizer.

Funny how this shit works sometimes eh ?

I don't know why anyone feels it's necessary to stoop to making this an article concerning American politics. Oh, wait, it's on the NT Front Page, so I guess it becomes a necessity.

It is truly a pity that whenever we hear about Israeli-Arab relations, the Israelis are always perceived as the evil empire. Every Israeli-Arab I have ever spoken to on my trips to Israel have indicated that they would much rather be citizens of Israel than of any other Arab country. They have better opportunities, more freedom, and are treated better than their compatriots in other lands {with the possible exception of the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan} The Israelis want their Arab citizens to be well assimilated into Israeli society

Agree with you 100%. Funny thing was that on Newsvine, whenever anyone made a similar statement you could almost time to the second before the hate mongering anti-Semitic/anti-Israel crowd chimed in. With some exceptions, there is a better class of people here.

Yes, I've noticed some of those exceptions. It definitely takes a limited intelligence to put credence to Palestinian and Hamas propaganda.

Actually, I think the money is to develop high-tech parks for Arabs living in Israel, not in Gaza or the West Bank.  It would be used for nefarious purposes otherwise. The European countries think the money they give Hamas is used for Gaza infrastructure, but the concrete Israel allows into Gaza (for the purpose of rebuilding its infrastructure) is used to build tunnels for terrorists to have access to murder and kidnap Jews, and the PLO uses the European Humanitarian Aid to pay terrorist prisoners and the families of killed terrorist "martyrs" who attacked Jews. It's not likely that Israel would use that money to develop technology opportunities where it would be misused.
