Nearly two years after leaving the White House, Michelle and Barack Obama still hold the hearts of the American people. A new Gallup poll released Thursday found that the former first couple are the most admired woman and man in the country.
Michelle, who is currently promoting her bestselling memoir Becoming , dethroned former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton for the first time in 17 years. Clinton — who's also been in the public eye as first lady, U.S. senator, Secretary of State, and two-time presidential candidate — had held the title of most admired woman for 16 years in a row and 22 times overall, more than anyone else in the history of the poll.
This year, however, Michelle captured the attention of the country with her book and tour, leading to her winning by a significant margin, holding about 15% to Oprah Winfrey's 5%. Clinton and first lady Melania Trump tied third with 4%.
Meanwhile, former president Barack Obama won the title for the 11th consecutive year, with 19%. He was followed by President Donald Trump, who got 13%. Former president George W. Bush and Pope Francis tied in third place with 2%. According to Gallup, this is only the 13th time in history the incumbent president has not been the most admired man in the United States.
Gallup has been conducting its annual survey since 1946. (The only year it didn't take place was 1976.) Americans across the nation are asked an open-ended question: Name the man and woman, living anywhere in the world, whom you admire the most.
The Obamas semi-retired to private life after leaving the White House, but became active during the midterm elections and beyond. Michelle's memoir in particular was a hit with the public, quickly rising to be the most sold hardcover book of this year.

13% versus 19% is a 6% difference, that's nearly 50% more votes than Donald received. That doesn't really seem very close to me.

Regardless of Trump and all the bitter bigots angry with this result, Obama and Michelle make one great looking couple. They both have incredible smiles and seem like they really do enjoy each others time and both spent their time and energy raising two beautiful daughters that they're still very close with. It's night and day different than the current resident of the white house. Melania slapping Donald's hand away, every time she has to be seen with Trump she looks more like a hostage than a first lady. And Donald's certainly not winning any Dad of the year awards, I almost never see him with Baron who will no doubt grow up as just another victim of Donald's hubris. Hopefully, a decade from now when Baron is giving his father eulogy, he'll let us all know how he really feels about the stranger who he happens to share DNA with. Maybe Baron will ask to have him cremated and then dump his ashes in a random well used construction site port-a-potty, a fitting end to such a sack of shit.

Number two is exactly what trump is. I personally hope he keeps pushing for the wall, latest polls indicate that 69% of the country thinks the wall is a waste of time and money.

This polling reflects the dumbing down of America. Not just about the Obama’s, but that Americans put any politicians or celebrities at the top of most admired lists.
Who do you want them to admire? Jim Bakker? Pat Robertson? The Duck Dynasty preacher? Maybe Trump's personal spiritual adviser, the con-woman preacher Paula White ?

Polls are entirely subjective and results depend largely on the whims those commissioning said polls. Poll a limited amount of people in certain areas and average responses.Don"t like a response, circular file it. They do not represent a majority of the population. I am sure the Obama's are the most admired, if you are a hard core progressive leftist liberal. They just count out the rest of the country that do not agree, and in all fairness, the extreme right is no different. That is why I do not like political polls and do not participate in them.
Not surprising that you worship the cult of personality instead of admiring people who actually dedicate their lives towards helping others (and no, none of the people you listed would make my list)

I would like to see the form of the poll - i.e. the names submitted, and in what order, and also the demographic of the persons questioned. I've always had faith that Gallup was legitimate, but....
But what? Having a hard time believing an extremely popular ex-President and his popular and talented wife could be the most admired people in America? Is it that Obama was a graduate of Columbia University, then graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law school, taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago law school for 12 years before becoming a State Senator for seven years, then a US Senator for four years before becoming President of the United States for two full terms? Is that why you'd doubt he should be admired most? Or was is it Michelle graduating from Princeton University, then getting her JD degree from Harvard Law School, making her one of only three first Ladies to earn a postgraduate degree along with Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton.
I'm just curious as to why you'd be surprised by the results, and to such a degree as to imply they weren't accurate, when the facts show both are very popular regardless of what the bitter Trump supports like to claim. If you listened to them too long you'd think President Obama was hated and reviled by most Americans, but actually he is very loved by most Americans. Just the slimy racist underbelly of American society seethes with unwarranted hate for the Obama's.
59% of Americans approve of the way President Obama handled his job as President. That would be almost a super majority in the Senate or house.
And Michelle had even higher approval ratings than her husband with many polls showing 79% of Americans approved of her as first lady.
