Rabbi in Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s district compares Trump rally to 'Nazi Germany'
"Even if her previous remarks may be offensive and even if she disagrees with the policies of the current Israeli government, I cannot stay silent today. I stand fully beside her -- and her colleagues -- and support her in the face of the recent racist tweets of the president. This is not how we engage in civil dialogue. This is not how we do business and politics in this country. We are and have been better than this. We need to be better than this," he wrote.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Faith leaders in Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home district are standing firmly behind her in the face of attacks from President Trump , despite disagreeing with some of her comments on Israel .

Rabbi Avi Olitzky of Beth El Synagogue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, called chants of "send her home" at the president’s rally Wednesday night in Greenville, North Carolina, “terrifying."

In an interview on ABC News Live’s “The Briefing Room,” Rabbi Olitzky told MaryAlice Parks he can’t “sit or stand silently while our sitting president issues such racist rhetoric.”

Olitzky went on to compare what he saw at the North Carolina rally to some of history’s darkest hours.

"This is a very eerie wave of similar situations in history, be that Nazi Germany or elsewhere," he said, adding that people don’t seem afraid to be “publicly hateful and publicly loud.”

The rabbi called on all political leaders to stop using “the Jewish community as a political football.”

In an op-ed in the Times of Israel titled "Enough with the Noise and the Vitriol," Olitzky wrote, “We cannot fall victim to the political tricks that rely on racism, and the meme of antisemitism, to bolster both sides, while still doing immense communal harm.”

Olitzky told ABC News he has met with Rep. Omar and her staff on numerous occasions -- including in Washington, D.C.

In a Facebook post he defended Rep. Omar.

Olitzky called on both sides to rise above this and talk to each other.

“What is happening now is both sides are just screaming into these echo chambers, supporters on both sides are not even listening to each other.”

On the surface, their may be superficial parallels such as the virulent anti-semites elected to Congress by Democrats. And there is  Antifa, a  masked paramilitary group that attacks citizens in streets and commits terrorist attacks against government institutions that recalls the SA.  And, of course, the Democratic Party itself, like the Nazis, survives on racial identity politics and class war.

But America in 2019 is led by a President who submits to the Rule of Law. Who follows Supreme Court rulings even when they are wrong. Who submits to a years long investigation by an  independent counsel armed with extraordinary powers. Where elections are held and opposition parties win power.  When one looks at the big picture, it becomes apparent how stupid and offensive the comparison is.

So long as the progressive left is remains out of power, the fever dreams of Nazis behind every corner will remain simply a nightmare.

An NT member, in an attempt to disparage Israel as bleeding the USA's economy, actually posted a comment saying that Israel gets from the USA MORE THAN A BILLION DOLLARS A DAY.  jrSmiley_88_smiley_image.gif   While actually, a very big percentage of the stretched over a TEN YEAR PERIOD $38 BILLION is spent in America, helping to support American industry and jobs.

nope, I disagree with you.

Trump's racist rhetoric is responsible for his own tone alone. The negativity and uncivil tone by other people are the responsibility of those people. People are responsible for their own actions and their own choices. Republicans are not committed to civility, it is nothing but an empty talking point. The vitriol directed toward Obama by the right wing was appalling and based on racism. It still goes on today but it is coming from the highest office in the country and all Republicans are doing are making excuses for it. Trump himself has destroyed the notion that there are "both sides" to anything. He made it clear there is only one side and he expects to be king with nothing but abject followers who bow down to him.

This was meant for here:

It’s been the 1930s in America since the 1960s at at least. The same groups of people who claim trump is nazism reborn were saying the same things about Goldwater and every republican in between.   It’s how they try and scare voters and distract from Their own racial obsessions. McCain, who is a saint now that he is safely  dead, was called a Nazi by the same people just over a decade ago.

It’s a canard almost as old as the war itself.

And here's another  obvious fact that the simpletons braying about America=Nazi Germany always ignore. This murderer is going to jail for life. In an actual regime of nascent Nazism, these crimes are celebrated and not punished. See the massive distinction there?

The Jews  in Nazi Germany didn't have to fake hate crimes to show how oppressed they were.

Yes I know who that is. That's why I said he's been sentenced to death.  Because we aren't anything like Nazi Germany, hate crimes are punished. Whether a one shoots up a black church in South Carolina or target whites in a church in Tennessee, the government punishes you harshly.  The point you are missing is that actual oppressive governments don't punish perpetrators of hate crimes. When that starts, you can start the Nazis comparison.  When best you can do  to claim our government is becoming 1930s Germany is to show pictures of people facing life in prison or death for hate crimes, you look like an idiot.

Do you think the Nazis were executing citizens for attacking Jews?  Or Jews had to actually fake hate crimes in Nazi Germany to create impression they were being oppressed?

"Even if her previous remarks may be offensive"

Amazing how the good rabbi could not find the time, microphone or camera to denounce the obvious anti semetic comments by Omar, but was able to jump in front of the first media she could find to denounce the President for his comments.

Liberals like to point out that 76 percent of Jews are democrat, so it is probably not a surprise to say she is one.

Pretty sad that she needs to call out someone who has shown the highest support of your religion and country where your religion essentially began thousands of years ago, but are silent on the person who probably hates you because of your religion, and would have no problem if you and the Jewish state of Israel, disappear from the face of the planet, all in the name of politics.

No she didn't deny it. She had to say something that "condemned" Omar because she promptly went on to bash Trump. If she didn't, she would rightfully be called out as just another liberal hypocrite, never mind her religion.

HE is a blogger @ the Times of Israel if you'd like to review his writings. HE has criticized Omar in them. HE bashes Trump AND Bibi. HE gives cogent thoughtful reasons for doing so.

Rabbi In Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s District Compares Trump Rally To 'Nazi Germany'
Very astute comment-- they were alike in more ways than one! Nazi Rally (Germany):
512
The first truly grand-scale rally occurred in 1929 and featured most of the elements that marked all future rallies: blaring Wagnerian overtures, stirring martial songs, banners, goose-step marches, human swastika formations, torchlight processions, bonfires, and magnificent fireworks displays.
Adolf Hitler and other Nazi leaders delivered lengthy orations.
Buildings were festooned with enormous flags and Nazi insignia.
The climax of the rallies was the solemn consecration of the colours, in which new flags were touched to the  Blutfahne  (Blood Banner), a tattered standard said to have been steeped in the blood of those killed in Hitler’s abortive Beer Hall Putsch of November 8–9, 1923.

Hitler's methods (so well illustrated by you), as abhorrent as they were, certainly were successful in getting most of Germany's citizens to support him, weren't they?  Their denials, in most cases, were not heard until they lost the war.

I don't think anyone says that America today is Germany then. But lots of people, including me, are saying that we're headed in that direction, and that the time to change direction is now.

Complacency was a bad idea in Germany then, and complacency is a bad idea in America today:

Complacency over the past forty years or so is what has brought us to this juncture, apathy may be the vehicle that drives us over the edge.

Not only did he allow the chant to go on, but he stood their with his usual smug look, proud of his Trumpbots.

Agree. Then on a news report later when he was trying his best to deny he approved of it he said he began to speak very quickly to try to get it to dye down right away. This even after he was shown the video where he stood there and let the chant go on with his smug Mussolini face of approval for 13 seconds. It proved his blatant lie, yet, he still denied that he allowed it to go on with his obvious approval.

He lies. It doesn't matter that there's video showing the truth. He'll just lie a bit more.

Not quite, but it is quickly getting there.
