An open chat room has been set up where we can share our angst, joy, pride, and any other emotion we experience during this monumental election. You can join now if you like, but the official kick-off will start as the polls begin to close (5:00 eastern time). Join us!
I probably won't be commenting tonite because while I intend to watch the returns, I will be in bed and doubt if I will be awake after 9 PM. 8 PM is a safe bet, too
You access the group chatroom by first looking at the chatlist at the bottom right on the NT page ( "chat now") In that box, at the top there is a row of icons. The second one from the left is the one to access the group chatrooms.
Hopefully you caught my sarcasm. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Trump did not immediately claim victory when he took Millsfield, NH in a landslide (pop. 21). I bet someone took his Twitter machine away to keep that from happening.
Well it won't , until someone grabs the microphone , from his "cold dead hands". Trump is great at quiting when it comes to paying his bills, helping out US Citizens with Monetary relief, and answering "tough" questions on 60 minutes, or say telling Russia and Putin to lay the FCK OFF our bounty laden Service men and such, but when it is time for him to quit being POTUS, and he then refuses to quit, That's when the POS needs to be thrown out on his asz, on his way to Club Fed, cause the US of A won't be rightly safe, till Trump is actually pronounced DOA ( Departed Out AMERICA) and heads back to his Motherland, where he will be Putin on his knee pads and padded chin strap pin on his own gear will be old Glad Vadd, as he assumes the position that's in the rear .
Short lines to no lines in Texas . The red wave never going to happen. Texas is going blue. We all voted for Biden. We have already waited in really long lines to vote for Biden. It’s a done deal. Texas is going blue. There is nothing Trump can do about it now. Too little. Too late
Trump tells reporters he is doing "incredibly well" in the vote, and "no one has ever seen anything like" the way he is doing at the nation's polling places today. "Some people say we are doing tremendously well , and people are "voting strongly" on his behalf. He also added "no one has ever seen anything like" the way he talks about the election.
How does one vote "strongly"? It's just a mark on a ballot. If you're using a machine do you press down extra hard on the button? If you're using a paper ballot, do you press down so hard on the pencil the tip breaks?
I heard he fears prosecution, or was it persecution, after this election if he doesn't win (isn't that the only reason he's running for President?). . . Oh please let it be PRESIDENT BIDEN!
Beautiful fall day so I will be out doing yard work most of the day, relieving stress productively. To me Senate elections are just as, or more important, than presidential, although I can not stand Trump and hope there is a Biden sweep.
To me Senate elections are just as, or more important, than presidential,
Probably most people feelthat people in the Stock market are most concerned about the Election for President. But it turns out that many (most?) of them are more interested in the elections for Congress (and of course the policies of the Fed).
Regardless of their personal political views, it seems they feel what will effect the market the most are the Congressional elections.
Not reading any reports of any major issues with in person voting yet.
Also there's this:
U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, who has presided over several lawsuits aimed at Postal Service election mail delays, gave the Postal Service until 3 p.m. to "ensure that no ballots have been held up" in regions that have been slow to process mail ballots. The order applies to areas within the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Texas, Florida and Arizona.
Georgia shaping up to be a very influential swing state. Even if Trump could get all the toss up states he needed, if Georgia goes blue the path becomes very problematic to 270.
Alternately despite polls showing Biden well in front in Pennsylvania - that's a state I just don't trust the polls in until the final votes are counted.
With the Rust belt and upper midwest hovering in the 50's today - if distancing makes for long slow lines with people forced to wait hours outside who knows what it's going to do to turnout. Would it help Biden since he had more mail in voters or hurt him - since his voters are in precincts more likely to have longer lines?
Those people will think it's a balmy day if it's in the 50's especially if the sun is shining. I grew up in Western PA. This time of year 50's is actually very pleasant
With the Rust belt and upper midwest hovering in the 50's today.
Usually weather is a factor that influences turnout-- at least to some degree. But given that passions (on both sides) seem to be generally higher than they usually are-- IMO weather may be somewhat less important than usual ...(?)
In a win for voters, a federal judge rejected another last-ditch Republican effort to invalidate nearly 127,000 votes in Houston because the ballots were cast at drive-thru polling centers established during the pandemic. #Election2020
I can't believe what I'm seeing at this point in time - early, Trump has 8 electoral college voters while Biden has none, and the total votes put Trump way ahead. God help the Democrats.
Buzz, these early results simply depend on what states are reporting in results. Many of the Biden states havent closed the polls yet. It will take another half an hour or more for a lot of votes to come in.
Buzz its just after 6 pm Mountain Time here , so polls are still open for another hr here , and the time to start watching results would be when the polls start closing on the pacific coast, anything can happen at this point .
Okay, my friends, obviously I'm not as experienced or involved as you guys, so I'll try to closet my paranoia about this. But, the funny thing is that I believe it would be financially beneficial for me to support Trump, because the XL Pipeline is very important to the Canadian economy and could make a difference in the conversion value of my Canadian pension dollars, and his outstanding support for Israel. However, notwithstanding that, I really hope Trump loses for a lot more reasons.
Looks like Texas is going Blue, as well as PA and NM. Looking forward to seeing what goes with other states where the polls have not closed yet. I did not think FL would go Blue. Trump and his family have too much of a hold on FL, so that is a given.
Florida was only a hope, but the results there are no surprise. On the TV news here I watched a lot of interviews with residents there and I could see it coming. As well, the golf condo I owned there with my brother was next door to a typical Florida native who couldn't wait to meet me and show me his pistol, probably the first one I ever saw close up except for the cap gun and water pistol I had as a kid. Legally owned pistols were rarely legally owned by ordinary citizens in Canada and non-existent where I am now. Paradoxically, I defended clients in criminal matters only twice in my career, and one of them was for the illegal possession of a pistol.
I've checked the vote map on the internet and it is far different than the one here on NT. And now TX has gone red. Which is what I thought might happen, but, had hoped that it might stay blue.
I have been around guns as long as I can remember, as my Father was a police officer for 15 years and a Texas Ranger for 4. Since my Father had to keep his weapons in our home, he taught me and my older Brother how to take care of them and how to fire them, so that we would have respect for them, and how to safely handle and use them. Even my Mother had a gun, a small Derringer that shot .22 hollow point ammo. It was little, but, it sure made a big hole. My Father bought her the gun when they first married, as he was in the Army Air Corps during WWII and she was alone a good deal of the time then, so he wanted her to be able to defend herself when he was on base.
Well, in America you have to defend yourself from people with guns and you can't do that with a cap pistol, which is something I don't have to worry about here, and in fact never even worried about in Canada.
The Autocrat-in-Chief just declared himself the winner and demanded that millions of legally cast votes not be counted... in states where is ahead. Of course, he wants the votes to continue to be counted in Arizona and Nevada, the states where he is behind.
He said stop the voting NOT stop the counting. Meaning, FFS can't believe I have to explain this, that they needed to stop accepting votes beyond the election day deadline.
You've been misinformed. The Trump campaign filed suit in Nevada last week which demanded that the counting of all early ballots be stopped immediately. Source
I think the judge told him to blow it out his big bazoo.
Butt, the gop lost the Presidency and has not actually retained the Senate. Nancy Pelosi will though be Speaker. Georgia will have a run off for a Senate seat and so Harris may be Democrat's fifty first vote. Remember that the Independent Senators vote Democratic...
When Democrats passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 President Johnson ominously said, "We (Democrats) just lost the South for a generation". Actually, it turned out to be for much longer...
Is it any wonder the once Grand Old Party of Abe Lincoln is now known merely as the gop?
in fact, if you check out any of my posts, you would see i never claimed one. in fact, I explicitly stated that I wouldn't be surprised if Biden won by 10 points or if Trump pulled off another upset, nor have I been saying that the GOP would win anything in a landslide. so maybe you should direct your questions to someone else.
I am not sure i have any confidence in someone who thinks overall popular vote totals for Congress matters more than seats won or lost has any expertise or even grasps the crude fundamentals of how elections occur hereby if you feel you have a firm grasp on the basics, go for it. but since I gave known that since I was about 14, why waste your time?
GHW Bush, Jimmy Carter and Herbert Hoover were the only ones in the last 100 years to lose their reelection bids. I was only being slightly hyperbolic. Fact is that sitting Presidents seldom lose their bids for reelection butt Trump did!
This should be a good way for our community to interact in real time on this momentous occasion.
Come on Trumpers !! Make sure you get out and vote tomorrow. Rah rah sis boom bah.
Hopefully there is a Duck Dynasty marathon on tv today to keep them occupied.
I probably won't be commenting tonite because while I intend to watch the returns, I will be in bed and doubt if I will be awake after 9 PM. 8 PM is a safe bet, too
You can comment for a little while, can't you? It wouldn't be the same without you.
I second Sister's sentiments.
I'll take the laptop to bed. The cat won't like it but that's his problem
Is this the chatroom or are you talking about the instant messenger?
You access the group chatroom by first looking at the chatlist at the bottom right on the NT page ( "chat now") In that box, at the top there is a row of icons. The second one from the left is the one to access the group chatrooms.
Found it! Thanks, John!
I think Biden should have declared victory when he sweeped Dixville Notch (pop. 5). Give Trump a taste of his own medicine.
Come on Hal. Do we really need to fight dumbassery with more dumbassery?
Among other things.
Hopefully you caught my sarcasm. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Trump did not immediately claim victory when he took Millsfield, NH in a landslide (pop. 21). I bet someone took his Twitter machine away to keep that from happening.
It was funny! I caught on to his sarcasm
I did... Unfortunately I can't convey the eyeroll without an emoji. Hahahaha!
You mean this one?
WHAT IS SARCASM...?
Donald Trump in a tutu?
Don't start with me....
O M G.........EYE BLEACH!!!
Eewwww.......
r u sure he can count that high...?
It's not like he could actually see his toes in a tutu
What?
Are you being sarcastic?
Oh wait-- you can't be sarcastic about being sarcastic!
That's a double negative-- which means if you were to be sarcastic about being sarcastic-- it would mean that you weren't being sarcastic!
(Grammar can be so confusing at times...)
And it's a Biden landslide in Dixville Notch! Boom Shakalaka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's just not mention the population number. A landslide is a landslide.
I am so tired of Trump's lies. I just want it to all quit!
I don't want him in Club Fed, besides I think the State of NY will come knocking then it's off to Rikers for a spell

Yuge and bigly as well and throw in a covfefe.
I didnt have to make anything up. He actually said those things this morning.

I heard he fears prosecution, or was it persecution, after this election if he doesn't win (isn't that the only reason he's running for President?). . . Oh please let it be PRESIDENT BIDEN!
There's probably some truth to that-- after all "no one has ever seen anything like the way he lies".
Well if "some people" are saying it-- that's absolute proof it must be true!
/sarc
And don't forget to start a sentence with
I can tell you that . . .
and end a sentence with
. . . .that I can tell you.
I think I will cry if he should happen to win this time. . .

Here's to hoping Lindsey Graham talks a long walk off of a short pier and takes Martha McSally with him.
May your words come true, Sister.
Lindsey Graham.
Did someone mention The Lincoln Project?

Something tells me that wouldn’t be the first time that creepy former crackhead fucker used his pillow in that way.
Mr Pillow Guy is creepy, isn't he?
He got extra creepy when he found Jeebus.
Now he sells towels too. Maybe the pillows aren't selling so well.
Extra creepy is right . . . .
He sells bed sheets, too
I remembered when he started selling mattress covers, must have been the same time.
I generally don't pay attention when Mr. Creepy comes on TV.
The commercial that really creeps me out is when he shows up in that guy's bathroom mirror. I guess he never heard of personal boundaries
if you know the right promo code you can get those sheets with sleeves and hoods
he was watching the guy's wife earlier ...
It's KKK2020
Thanks Split P. That was a bit over the edge.
Perhaps this is more appropriate..................

Unbelievable that they would try to throw out votes completely...

Electoral college the same, but the total votes have swung to Biden - Obviously it's too early to tell.
way too soon to call

LOL You mean the guy who contradicted the message written upon the statue's base?
Yes
And declared their young innocent children of all ages away from the parents and treats them as criminals held in cages.
Too funny!
cracked me up
This is giving me a sick stomach. I can't watch this sew-saw any more - right now it's so close I can't stand it.
The Autocrat-in-Chief just declared himself the winner and demanded that millions of legally cast votes not be counted... in states where is ahead. Of course, he wants the votes to continue to be counted in Arizona and Nevada, the states where he is behind.
I just read that former astronaut Mark Kelly defeated Martha McSally in AZ. Thank you again Sen. McCain.
At least that takes the sting out of what's happening right now. Martha McSally is a bully and an all-around unpleasant person.
That's the good news, but the bad news is that the GOP retains the Senate majority.
I was hoping Mr Kelly would win
Hello Michigan!!
With Arizona and Nevada, where he is leading, Biden would be at 270 electoral votes and President. Does Trump want to stop counting the votes now?
He said stop the voting NOT stop the counting. Meaning, FFS can't believe I have to explain this, that they needed to stop accepting votes beyond the election day deadline.
If he loses, we all knew he would never go quietly into the night.
The fact that he doesn't want votes counted should sound alarm bells for some people.
Sadly it will probably will not. Some are going to yell and scream fraud and try to pull every trick the book.
The Trump campaign has filed lawsuits in Michigan and Pennsylvania to stop the vote counting .
“We have filed suit today in the Michigan Court of Claims to halt counting ..." Bill Stepien, Trump 2020 campaign manager

I think the judge told him to blow it out his big bazoo.
....using his Kazoo. (grin)
Ha!!!!!!!!!
Meanwhile this was the scene in South Florida...
did you get washed away by that Big Blue Wave?
No, butt Trump did...
must be a kiddy pool wave, since the GOP looks like it will hold the Senate and pick up House seats
Butt, the gop lost the Presidency and has not actually retained the Senate. Nancy Pelosi will though be Speaker. Georgia will have a run off for a Senate seat and so Harris may be Democrat's fifty first vote. Remember that the Independent Senators vote Democratic...
Your beloved Nancy isn't in favor with your squad, so look for a lot of infighting among Democrats
Pelosi has not done Democrats any favors as far as winning seats goes.
Now why in the world would they play the Democrat game ..................that is now 60 years old
"I'll have them ******* voting Democrat for the next 200 years"
I believe you got that all wrong, bassackwards!
When Democrats passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 President Johnson ominously said, "We (Democrats) just lost the South for a generation". Actually, it turned out to be for much longer...
Is it any wonder the once Grand Old Party of Abe Lincoln is now known merely as the gop?
and yet, history shows us (well, those who can see), Democrats continued their stranglehold in the South for a few more decades
is it any wonder that the GOP is called the GOP?
NOT REALLY, SINCE IT IS THEIR NAME.
Make that 'goop'.
What will the gop call the ladies of The Squad now?
WINNERS!
glasses of water could have won those districts for Democrats
Yet, Biden has 270 Electoral Votes. Must I now explain how the Electoral College works to you?
wtf does Biden have to do with your little squad?
and you know that 270 is the minimum requirement, don't you?
hardly a wave, barely a ripple
Where is orange conman's "landslide"?
O never claimed there would be one.
in fact, if you check out any of my posts, you would see i never claimed one. in fact, I explicitly stated that I wouldn't be surprised if Biden won by 10 points or if Trump pulled off another upset, nor have I been saying that the GOP would win anything in a landslide. so maybe you should direct your questions to someone else.

Biden and the Squad are Democratic Winners!
no one argued differently, so what point do you think you are making?
He lost. That's repudiation.
Joe Biden has 270 Electoral College Votes!
I understand that just fine. Need I explain?
again, who is disputing that?
why do you keep stating that when not a soul is arguing with you?

Trump, an incumbent President, lost his reelection!
That never happens. Even Dick Nixon got reelected.
Sigh.
look it up, it has happened 12, now 13 times in our history.
DEFINITELY NOT " NEVER HAPPENS"
GHW Bush, Jimmy Carter and Herbert Hoover were the only ones in the last 100 years to lose their reelection bids. I was only being slightly hyperbolic. Fact is that sitting Presidents seldom lose their bids for reelection butt Trump did!
if you meant something else, why write what you did?
that makes zero sense
you are missing one.
Ford.
9 or 10 depending on the source
This one claims 10 but only lists 9 including Gerry Ford who never won an Presidential election in the first place.
There were 12 one term Presidents not including Kennedy.
Not sure where they count Grover Cleveland, who won, lost then won again 4 years later.
Technically Ford was never elected, so re-election is a misnomer.
statements like that keep proving Reagan right all these years later
How so? I have no idea. Reagan said a lot.

Maybe you will read the quote I was thinking of some day.
Maybe not.
I find it creepy when men get all coy like that...
Glad I don't have that problem!
Trump children react to election results
