Law enforcement agents raid Mar-A-Lago, the Florida home of former President Donald Trump

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Former President Donald Trump said Monday evening that law enforcement agents have raided his home at Mar-a-Lago in South Florida, in what appears to be an unprecedented escalation in one or more of the various criminal investigations into his activities.

Trump did not say why the agents appeared to be at his Florida property but, in an emailed statement, added that "this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."

Trump is under investigation by the Justice Department   for removing presidential records from the White House   and storing them at Mar-a-Lago for up to a year, a potentially serious violation of the law if the records were classified. Trump has denounced that investigation, saying he was entitled to take the records.

Trump and   many of his associates   are also under scrutiny by the FBI, the Justice Department, the Internal Revenue Service and other federal and state agencies for alleged wrongdoing   during his four-year administration   and related to his various business entities.

Federal law enforcement officials had no immediate comment on whether agents were at Mar-a-Lago and if so, for what reason. Traditionally, any search would need to be authorized by a judge after finding evidence of probable cause that a crime had been committed – but there are many other circumstances in which agents might be on the property.

The Justice Department declined to comment.

Trump is still in the news.   People (and it would seem that includes you) still praise the man.   Trump is still highly influential over the GoP.   His Big Lie campaign was an outrageous abuse of his office and so the subsequent focus on his misdeeds is to be expected.   And if he is indicted we will see much more Trump in the news.

There really is no stopping people from talking about Trump while he is mainstream.   Better get used to it because it is not going away.

People tend to vote their wallets, Democrats would be wise to remember that, as most voters just aren't obsessed with Trump. Most of them care more about getting gas to put in their cars and putting food on their tables, something much harder for many since Biden won.

Maybe you live in a more affluent area, where people are not affected by inflation as much as other economic classes surely are.

Gas prices are significantly higher than in 2020, inflation is at 40 year highs, rents are astronomical.

Wages have increased, but every bit of that increase and more has been offset by inflation.

Biloxi sales tax, casino revenue reach record highs

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - From sales tax to casino revenue, it was a historic year for the City of Biloxi.

“We had a record year in the middle of the pandemic,” Mayor Andrew “Fofo” Gilich told WLOX.

New numbers out Wednesday show a record-breaking $13.8 million collected in sales tax from January to December.

That’s nearly 24% higher than reported in 2020.

“This transformation took place,” Gilich said. “Biloxi is a hybrid market. It’s sort of a convenient regional market with top-notch, world-class amenities.”

Its major amenity, gaming, also reached new heights.

Biloxi casinos posted a record-breaking year, bringing in $1.02 billion into its local economy .

That is now the highest total since the local industry was legalized in 1992.

The successful year also boosted neighboring businesses like shops and restaurants.

“You can only be inside a casino three or four hours a day gambling, so you need other things to do the rest of the, you know, 20 or so hours,” Gilich said. “And that’s why we’re here.”

Next door to Treasure Bay Casino on Highway 90 is Souvenir City, which witnessed the rush.

“We had a lot of business,” store manager Christina Williamson said. “In six years that I’ve been here, last year was one of the best I personally have ever seen.”

Lol ..... amazing

Any links to this doom and gloom?

If you really need links on the heavily reported information I’ve noted, they won’t help you anyway.

The only reality I see is people that love to parrot fox news without anything to back it up.

Not a surprise that is the only reality you see.    That’s how denial works.

What is unprecedented is an ex-president selfishly inserting himself into every issue, in his vanity hoping to remain relevant.

Simply pathetic, and worse, to have too many play into the ploy.

Gas is under $4 here now and continuing to fall.

Yes the trend is good.   But for people whose income level is affected by the price of gas, they will still see it as high.

Basically my point is that the public will determine if the economy is good or bad.   It is a perception thing.   In a period where we have extraordinary inflation, the public will interpret this as a bad economy.   And, as such, they will (because that is how politics seems to work) blame the party in control and the PotUS.

I'll not disagree that many things, including the state of the economy are perceptual. We can't even get the experts to agree on where things are going.

Yes the trend is good.

Then perhaps the incumbent party may also get some praise rather than blame?

Shifting perceptions is what political elections are all about. I wish people as a whole were smarter.

I doubt it.   I think the electorate will not change its binary determination (good vs. bad) until inflation gets closer to where it was ~ 5-6% (vs. 9+%).     After the midterms there is time for people to acclimate to a higher level of inflation (say 6-7%) and then I can see the economy issue lessening.   That said, perception is often tough to reverse ... even if the facts suggest the perception is misguided.

"Absolutely," said Grisham. "I can see he's going to already say exactly, you know, that these were mementos or these were love letters from Kim Jong-un or whatever. I will say right now, the former president of the United States did not handle classified documents properly. I watched him do it. I sat in an airplane with him. I watched him go through documents, throw some away, rip some up, and put some in his pocket...because I remember specifically thinking, I wonder why those go in his pocket?"

Grisham also had a theory about the sorts of documents Trump might have chosen to keep for himself.

"I think this is going to be really interesting," said Grisham. "I think that something big is there. I don't think it's going to be just letters. I think it could be about military operations. This is me speculating, I want to be clear. but I can see the former president thinking those were cool or fun. And we were not a White House that followed the rules. And I will tell you that handling classified information was not something that was really pressed upon us on a daily basis or weekly or monthly."

The FBI heads are not stupid. They would not have issued a raid on Trumps' Mar-A-Lago home if they did not have sufficient cause to warrant it.

There is no reason to think that, expecting the kind of GOP outrage that we now see, they would engage in such a raid without cause to justify it.

The Trump Cult is just afraid that their cult leader will wind up in jail and be disqualified to run for President, or for any other office, ever again.

Trumps own actions are the cause for what he now faces for more than just one issue.

Ex-Presidents do not have the power to declassify documents after he leaves office and per the Presidential Records Act (PRA) all Presidential records automatically transfer into the legal custody of the Archivist as soon as the President leaves office. The determination between private and Presidential records must be done through the Archivist in writing before a President leaves office.

I'm not going to speculate on what was in those boxes the FBI pulled yesterday, but they had to know that if they didn't cross all the Ts and dot all the Is they would be in deep shit.

Exactly! They exercised the authority that allows them to legally raid Donald's home. That Donald and his rabid followers, both obviously totally ignorant of said law, are trying to blame the FBI of acting illegally.

I venture to say that if the same had happened to Obama after he left office, Donald and his ignorant GOP followers would be cheering the FBI for doing what they are legally permitted to do.

It would seem that no one was holding a gun to Donald's heads when he illegally took those documents and records to his home instead of giving them to the Archivists, as is the law, when he left office.

The law is there and is to be obeyed. So, once again, it is Donald's own actions that has lead to his home being raided by the FBI. He alone is to blame for what has resulted from his own decision to disobey the law.

As was bound to happen.  And we also now see Trump throwing more of his once dedicated followers under the bus to try and save himself. Which was also bound to happen at some point. We see some of his politicians now trying to salvage their own political lives by steering clear of Trump, yet, still adhering to his same policies that will ultimately throw a good many middle-class Americans under the bus as well. It is the "It's all about me" attitude of the GOP now, and it is bound to backfire not only on them, but, the GOP as well.

  • Alex Jones' legal team accidentally sent a trove of personal text messages to opposing counsel in a defamation case.

  • Among the texts was a nude photo of Jones' wife that he sent to Roger Stone, the plaintiff's attorney said.

  • Erika Wulff-Jones told Insider she wasn't aware of the exchange and was upset about the disclosure.

When I heard about intimate emails between him and Roger Stone I was wondering what that was all about.

I wonder if he sent nude photos of himself to Stone also?

Yeah, Biden's Administration must be exaggerating the horrible inflation numbers in order to bolster Democrats' chances in November, those sneaky bastards, claiming it is the highest in 40 YEARS!

I see a degree of madness has infected the seed and even so it is a poor excuse to lock 128 comments. The entire world is mad and America more so than any other country ... perhaps it is America that needs to be locked. Sheesh!

After hearing the news of the raid this morning, this seed has gone exactly how I thought it would go.  The partisans are in full force supporting their sides and believing they are correct in their assessments of what has happened, why it happened and what the outcome will be.  The comments and replies are so predictable that it's become boring.

"Raid" is the wrong word, Donald's lawyers and security team were all informed well before the FBI politely knocked on the door.

his secret service detail was given a 3 hour heads up on the warrant being served, due to their previously scheduled tag team with melania.
