Former President Donald Trump said Monday evening that law enforcement agents have raided his home at Mar-a-Lago in South Florida, in what appears to be an unprecedented escalation in one or more of the various criminal investigations into his activities.
Trump did not say why the agents appeared to be at his Florida property but, in an emailed statement, added that "this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."
Trump is under investigation by the Justice Department for removing presidential records from the White House and storing them at Mar-a-Lago for up to a year, a potentially serious violation of the law if the records were classified. Trump has denounced that investigation, saying he was entitled to take the records.
Trump and many of his associates are also under scrutiny by the FBI, the Justice Department, the Internal Revenue Service and other federal and state agencies for alleged wrongdoing during his four-year administration and related to his various business entities.
Federal law enforcement officials had no immediate comment on whether agents were at Mar-a-Lago and if so, for what reason. Traditionally, any search would need to be authorized by a judge after finding evidence of probable cause that a crime had been committed – but there are many other circumstances in which agents might be on the property.
The Justice Department declined to comment.

Trump is still in the news. People (and it would seem that includes you) still praise the man. Trump is still highly influential over the GoP. His Big Lie campaign was an outrageous abuse of his office and so the subsequent focus on his misdeeds is to be expected. And if he is indicted we will see much more Trump in the news.

People tend to vote their wallets, Democrats would be wise to remember that, as most voters just aren't obsessed with Trump. Most of them care more about getting gas to put in their cars and putting food on their tables, something much harder for many since Biden won.

The economy will be seen as bad when it negatively affects the majority individually. Inflation is affecting everyone and the majority of Americans lack a level of discretionary funds to not feel the effects.

I am going by my little slice of the world. People are out in stores buying, people are out at restaurants, people are out at entertainment venues, etc.

So what else need happen before the majority consider the economy bad? To me, the current high inflation is all that is needed.
Maybe you live in a more affluent area, where people are not affected by inflation as much as other economic classes surely are.
Gas prices are significantly higher than in 2020, inflation is at 40 year highs, rents are astronomical.
Wages have increased, but every bit of that increase and more has been offset by inflation.

please describe the general demographic you see gambling there. in our gambling towns, it's mostly pasty relics of the past riding tour buses up the mountain to gamble during the weekdays.

Yes the trend is good. But for people whose income level is affected by the price of gas, they will still see it as high.
Basically my point is that the public will determine if the economy is good or bad. It is a perception thing. In a period where we have extraordinary inflation, the public will interpret this as a bad economy. And, as such, they will (because that is how politics seems to work) blame the party in control and the PotUS.
I'll not disagree that many things, including the state of the economy are perceptual. We can't even get the experts to agree on where things are going.

Shifting perceptions is what political elections are all about. I wish people as a whole were smarter.
I doubt it. I think the electorate will not change its binary determination (good vs. bad) until inflation gets closer to where it was ~ 5-6% (vs. 9+%). After the midterms there is time for people to acclimate to a higher level of inflation (say 6-7%) and then I can see the economy issue lessening. That said, perception is often tough to reverse ... even if the facts suggest the perception is misguided.

If the agents can stay through tomorrow night, they can enjoy a dinner buffet consisting of an appetizer table, two pound lobsters, freshly grilled fish and meat items, salads and a dessert bar, accompanied by a saxophonist under the stars.
The FBI heads are not stupid. They would not have issued a raid on Trumps' Mar-A-Lago home if they did not have sufficient cause to warrant it.
There is no reason to think that, expecting the kind of GOP outrage that we now see, they would engage in such a raid without cause to justify it.
The Trump Cult is just afraid that their cult leader will wind up in jail and be disqualified to run for President, or for any other office, ever again.

Ex-Presidents do not have the power to declassify documents after he leaves office and per the Presidential Records Act (PRA) all Presidential records automatically transfer into the legal custody of the Archivist as soon as the President leaves office. The determination between private and Presidential records must be done through the Archivist in writing before a President leaves office.
I'm not going to speculate on what was in those boxes the FBI pulled yesterday, but they had to know that if they didn't cross all the Ts and dot all the Is they would be in deep shit.

The partisans are in full force supporting their sides and believing they are correct in their assessments of what has happened, why it happened and what the outcome will be. "Raid" is the wrong word, Donald's lawyers and security team were all informed well before the FBI politely knocked on the door.
