By Jarrett Renshaw, David Shepardson WILMINGTON, Del. (Reuters) - President-elect Joe Biden has tapped Pete Buttigieg to lead the U.S. Transportation Department, according to four people familiar with the matter, making him the first of Biden's Democratic rivals for the presidency to land a role in his Cabinet. The appointment of Buttigieg, 38, is another step in a meteoric political rise for the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who showed surprising strength as a presidential candidate. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, he would run a sprawling federal agency that oversees the nation's airlines, highways and transit systems. Buttigieg would also make history as the first LGBTQ person nominated to Biden's administration and, if confirmed, the first LGBTQ Cabinet secretary to be approved by the Senate. An announcement on his nomination is imminent, the people familiar with the matter said, asking for anonymity before a formal announcement. A spokesman for Biden's transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A representative for Buttigieg also did not respond to a request for comment. Buttigieg had been rumored for several different spots in Biden's administration. He was surprisingly competitive during the Democratic Party primary, winning the first-in-the-nation caucuses in Iowa, showing formidable fundraising might and enjoying massive popularity on social media. Once Biden took control of the …

Ummmm. Okay.
Maybe he'll do better at this job than he did in South Bend when he ignored tens of thousands of potholes (except making sure that the road in front of his house was fixed and repaved).
I guess the most important ingredient, as in all Biden appointments is this:
Buttigieg’s nomination is in line with Biden’s stated commitment to diversity in the Cabinet.
The other qualification, as far as I can see is Buttigieg's willingness to quickly bow out after Biden's South Carolina win.
Republicans should not be expecting any good cabinet picks.
why would the next 8 years be any different for R's than it was for everyone else the last 8 years.
oops, last 4 years. I keep forgetting trump is a rarity, an impeached 1 term loser. "such as you've never seen before"
There haven’t been any good ones yet. Well I guess he got his gay quota covered now. Which interest or identity group is up next? Diversity over all.
Some Trumpists would be much happier living in Russia where the philosophy and policies match their own.
Are you saying diversity is a bad thing?
I didn't say anything about diversity. I simply asked a question. Your attempt to try to turn it around on me is obvious, as well as a dodge to the original question.
Poor Mitch won’t be able to steer exorbitantly large amounts of infrastructure money into his backwoods state now.
Doesn't his wife currently hold the job?
Yes
... when she's not spying for china ...
Haha.. love that pic.
I wondered how long it would be before someone implied something. I'm just surprised it was you.
It's also not the original image in the Reuters article. This is:
What it implies to me is the fakery Democrats are good at displaying. For both pics. But the first one is funnier.
Don’t project on me whatever you think it means.
I am surprised that you make baseless accusations too.
The first image was altered to suggest something that wasn't true. That might be ok with you, but it's not ok with me.
Look closer. It's virtually the same damned image as you just posted FFS.
Please don't drag me into your comments. I never said anything about what the pic suggest for you.
Keep to your own opinions.
You didn't have to. Your 'hahaha' made it clear.
Keep to your own opinions.
That's exactly what I have been doing.
Perhaps in your twisted mind it made it clear..I already told you what it meant to me.
So next time perhaps ask before making unfounded accusations.
I know baloney when I see it, so thank you for deleting the image you provided and posting the one from the article. It was the right thing to do.
Thank you for your suggestion. I'll take it under advisement.
WTH are you talking about now?? The picture in the article above was gotten after looking at the original story. The fetch wasn't allowed to "fetch" the picture as it was because the source didn't allow it to so I hunted to find the same one elsewhere. I changed NOTHING. But thanks for the thanks...............I guess.
Jeezzz - just can't keep his hands to himself, can he???
And, how many other political careers have been shut down for "free hands"????
Sure why not? Being mayor of a town of 100K qualifies you for . . .
Gosh, I can't even finish the statement. I understand that cabinet appointments are political, but I'm still amazed when I see some of these nominations.
I know Biden didn't invent this kind of thing, so I'm not even trying to criticize him specifically. Trump made me scratch my head, too. Are there cabinet positions where we expect/demand the Secretary actually have some expertise in the field? Defense, maybe. State?
Maybe expertise isn't required. Is it a purely political and bureaucratic job? Are there departments people just don't care about that much?
I have heard he likes Amtrak, so he has one thing I like
