As the world slowly begins to emerge from the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic and American elites develop an interest in the formerly dismissed Wuhan lab leak theory, it is time to focus attention where it belongs: punishing a rogue Chinese Communist Party for what it has inflicted upon an unsuspecting world.

To many of us, it was obvious from the outset that COVID-19 was a “Chinese Chernobyl.”

Regardless of whether the virus has as its provenance a zoonotic transmission at a wet market or an “escape” from the Wuhan Institute of Virology — to say nothing of the low but still non-negligible possibility that it was intentionally developed and weaponized as a bioweapon — the CCP’s gross negligence, recklessness and, indeed, malice all contributed to an initially localized virus metastasizing into a crippling global phenomenon.

The story is, by now, a familiar one: The CCP responded to the initial outbreak in Wuhan by arresting and muzzling scientists, suppressing journalistic investigation and actively disseminating disinformation to the World Health Organization and other transnational institutions.

As a study from Britain’s University of Southampton concluded well over a year ago, proper Chinese government intervention at the virus’ onset might have reduced its ultimate spread by as much as 95 percent.

If American-led investigations credibly conclude that the virus was intentionally developed and weaponized as a Chinese bioweapon, then even the most dovish of foreign policy hands will be forced to conclude that a formal declaration of war must be considered.

The U.S. death toll for COVID-19 is approaching 600,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center . This dwarfs the Pearl Harbor death toll (2,403) that galvanized America’s entry into World War II.

War with a great power of China’s stature is naturally a horrific prospect: “A 2019 University of Sydney study warned that China’s missile force could neutralize most American Western Pacific assets within hours after war’s outbreak,” wrote David P. Goldman last year in the Claremont Review of Books.

We can take some solace in the knowledge that evidence for the “intentional bioweapon” theory remains scant.

The relevant question is thus what the U.S., and by extension the rest of the free world, should do if either of the two other virus origin theories is verified.

It is important to mind the broader geopolitical context.

The CCP runs a rogue, sordid authoritarian regime.

It is actively committing genocide, under the internationally accepted definition of the term, in Xinjiang province.

It runs a surveillance state straight out of Orwell’s “1984,” manipulates its currency, steals huge quantities of intellectual property and is a serial human rights abuser, cracking down on the practice of nontraditional Chinese religions in draconian fashion while forcibly sterilizing women under its sequential inhumane one-child and two-child policies.

In retrospect, it is clear that the past half-century’s ushering of China into the neoliberal order’s economic and financial institutions was a monumental mistake. Attempts at economic liberalization have not, in fact, led to political liberalization.

The aftermath of COVID-19 is the perfect opportunity for the U.S. to lead a global rebuke and rectify the past half-century’s giant mistake.

The U.S. must lead a coalition of like-minded nations to impose punitive tariffs and crippling sanctions on the CCP and its many minions.

The U.S. must also be unapologetic in using state power, if need be, to prevent its corporations from doing business in China . This can probably come from the executive branch, though Congress will also need to get involved for there to be meaningful teeth.

Another intriguing possibility — admittedly a better fit for a weaponized bioweapon scenario, but still arguably apropos in other scenarios — is to formally label China a state sponsor of terrorism under extant law, which would have the incidental effect of precluding U.S. corporations from entangling themselves there.

The U.S. should also attempt to lead an international consortium that attempts to quantify the harm done by the CCP’s disastrous mishandling of the virus, securing reparations in the form of monetary payments to victims’ families and/or sovereign debt forgiveness. And if China does not oblige, the U.S. can lead a multinational effort to seize Chinese assets en masse.

The threat posed by the People’s Republic of China is this century’s greatest challenge confronting the U.S. and the West, more broadly. Properly meeting that challenge necessarily entails making China pay for the destruction it has wrought with the COVID-19 global meltdown.

The Western Journal typically sources its information to credible media outlets, though story selection and wording usually spin information favorably to the right. They have also failed several fact checks. Finally, during the 2020 Presidential election, they have promoted misinformation. See failed fact check below.

China and iran are best buds. It’s entirely possible china provides iran with funding and equipment which iran uses for terroristic purposes. So, it is quite possible in a roundabout sort of way china is a state sponsor of terrorism.

And THAT threat is that China is on its way to deposing the USA from being the number one leading country in the world WITHOUT having to do so by military conquest or show of superior force.

Attacking the source instead of the content of what’s said is a tactic people use when they can’t debate the content.

LOL.  Yep, Ifs and possiblies, ifs and possiblies.....

You know, naturally I've seen a lot of what the CCP has posted and said, and it has NEVER called the USA its enemy,  And in fact, although it has provided statements disparaging American demonizing and actions meant to harm China and its sovereignty, China has ALWAYS stated that cooperation between the countries would be much more of a benefit for all.  I doubt that anyone can provide a valid source that reports that China has ever said otherwise.

The seed posted here, and its intention, is just to unify the American people because in order to unify them they require a common enemy - such as Japan was at Pearl Harbour, such as Al Queda was at 9/11, but obviously a pandemic is not enough to bring about unity, but a declaration of war against China - WOW, the holy grail.  As well, these seeds are meant to force Biden into a dead end situation where advancing a beneficial mutual relationship would be considered a detriment to the people of the USA, and will simply be used as election-promotion for the Republicans.

Ah, what fools these mortals be.....

...proper Chinese government intervention at the virus’ onset might have reduced its ultimate spread by  as much as 95 percent.

So if we follow the link (also in the Western Journal) we find --

“if Chinese authorities had acted three weeks earlier than they did, the number of coronavirus cases could have been reduced by 95% and its geographic spread limited.”

We know from the Woodward interview that Trump knew on February 7, 2020 (we knew about ~10 cases) that the coronavirus was much more contagious than the flu, and much more fatal. We also know that while NY & NJ were being massively infected from Europe Trump was still lying about it going away on March 10, 2020 (we knew about ~1,000 cases) --

“We’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

Lockdowns followed shortly. If you believe that China acting 3 weeks earlier could have prevented 95% of the cases, you should then also conclude that Trump acting 4+ weeks earlier could have done the same for the US.

You do realize only a full embargo and travel restrictions would have stopped it from hitting the US. Trump tried travel restrictions; and was labeled a racist for them by the media and Democrats.  China on the other hand could have gone full quarantine on the city the virus originated from and called the rest of the world for damn help. If they weren't so busy trying to cover up their mistakes and how the virus originated. Imagine how much sooner the a cure could have been found; and how much lower deaths would have been if the whole world would have had access to patient 0; and the disease at ground level. The number of deaths in China would have been lower as well.

But it is always Trump fault. But don't worry, the strain from India is working it's way through Europe- next stop US. We will see how well Biden ignores it. His track record with diseases isn't good.

Yeah… was this article written by a freshman at Liberty “university”? Cuz it reads like it. Primarily because it lacks any real detail as to what should actually be done, and definitely gets into hyperbole. Oh yeah, I like how there is no mention of potential consequences of a declaration of war or of any serious trade/diplomatic actions should they be taken.

China can hit back. They have a lot of influence in international organizations and bodies, a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, and a lot of separate trade agreements with countries all over the world (including the US, we do a TON of business with China).

Militarily they cannot do much beyond their sphere of influence in Asia, but there isn’t a whole lot we can really do to them either that wouldn’t demand significant sacrifices militarily and back home. And oh yeah, be prepared for a lot of disruption to utility and business services seeing as how a cyber war will be waged simultaneously.

China’s economic clout doesn’t even need to be discussed, they make all the shit you buy.

In short, getting “tough” on China is about as easy as getting “tough” on the United States, it can’t really be done. And a declaration of war with China really isn’t much of an option.

Since the premise of the article was that a formal declaration of war on China by the USA would only be in the event that the China virus was caused by a deliberate act of releasing an engineered bio weapon upon the word and then concealing that fact.  No rational person would find a declaration of war wrong in that event.  It is obvious that China is the source of all provocations in issues between the two nations.

Which is why the nations we respectively live in now are not presently at war right now.  Believe me, I hope it really was just a careless accidental release of research from the lab instead.  Even then though the subsequent cover ups and worse would still lead to a trade and or Cold War but not a hot one.  Short of a deliberate release of a bio weapon the only way the US and China will be in a hot one is if China invaded a nation we decide to help preserve their continued existence.  As long as China stays within Borders its government presently controls now, there won’t be a hot war.
