Mexico releases full text of migration agreement that Trump inadvertently flashed to cameras
Trump had flashed a folded copy of the deal to reporters this week, and said it’s “the agreement that everybody says I don’t have.” Photojournalists, however, were able to see through the paper and glimpse part of the agreement.

Mexico   on Friday released a copy of a   supplementary agreement   to stop migrant flows into the U.S. -- days after Trump inadvertently flashed parts of the deal to cameras.

The June 7 deal will require migrants moving to the border via Mexico to seek asylum there, and for Mexico to identify changes in domestic law to implement the agreement,  The Wall Street Journal  reported.

The agreement also calls for discussions to establish “definitive terms for a binding bilateral agreement to further address burden-sharing and the assignment of responsibility for processing refugee status claims of migrants.”

The language is close to that of a “safe third country” agreement that the U.S. has been seeking that means migrants entering Mexico apply for asylum there rather than the U.S. Mexico has resisted such a designation.

The agreement includes a clause by which, if the U.S. determines that the measures adopted by Mexico have not achieved sufficient results in preventing migrant flows after 45 days, then “Mexico will take all necessary steps under domestic law to bring the agreement into force.”

Trump had flashed a folded copy of the deal to reporters this week, and said it’s “the agreement that everybody says I don’t have.” Photojournalists, however, were able to see through the paper and glimpse part of the agreement.
The supplementary deal’s release comes a week after Trump announced that the two countries had reached an agreement to prevent U.S. tariffs on Mexican imports in exchange for Mexico taking tougher measures on migrant flows -- that have increased significantly in recent months to well over 100,000 a month.

According to a   joint declaration   issued by the State Department and Mexico last week, Mexico will take “unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration, to include the deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.”

The U.S. will also expand its “Remain-in Mexico” policy of returning asylum applicants to Mexico while their claims are processed. The U.S. committed to accelerate asylum claims while Mexico said it will “offer jobs, healthcare and education according to its principles.”

“Mexico will try very hard, and if they do that, this will be a very successful agreement for both the United States and Mexico!” Trump said last Saturday.

According to the Journal, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said this week that it is seeking a multilateral solution to the crisis, and will begin working with several U.N. agencies beginning next week.

“This isn’t just a Mexican issue, not just an issue for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, it’s one of the biggest migration flows in the world,” he said.

Right again Mr President!

I just think it is comical that of all the things going on in the world , this is one thing that has the right wing panties in a bunch.

You all can scream to the wind but the truth is trump had everything he wanted about a year ago. He refused several bills just because they had protections for Dreamers.

No Ender, the protections for dreamers ceased to be a concern for democrats as soon as a Federal Judge (A Clinton Judge) ruled that the DACA people were protected from deportation. That ended any motivation for an immigration deal.

No Vic, the House passed an immigration bill that includes DACA. Here, I'm linking a source that even you will believe.

Only you would call that bi-partisan!

Just seven Republicans voted to support the bill, while all 187 "no" votes came from Republicans.

Passing a bill that does nothing but help the DACA people is not immigration reform. Nothing coming out of the House will go anywhere without compromise!

I didn't say it was reform Vic.

“The United States and Mexico met this week to address the shared challenges of irregular migration, to include the entry of migrants into the United States in violation of U.S. law. Given the dramatic increase in migrants moving from Central America through Mexico to the United States, both countries recognize the vital importance of rapidly resolving the humanitarian emergency and security situation. The Governments of the United States and Mexico will work together to immediately implement a durable solution.

As a result of these discussions, the United States and Mexico commit to:

Mexican Enforcement Surge

Mexico will take unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration, to include the deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border. Mexico is also taking decisive action to dismantle human smuggling and trafficking organizations as well as their illicit financial and transportation networks. Additionally, the United States and Mexico commit to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including information sharing and coordinated actions to better protect and secure our common border.

Migrant Protection Protocols

The United States will immediately expand the implementation of the existing Migrant Protection Protocols across its entire Southern Border. This means that those crossing the U.S. Southern Border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to Mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims.

In response, Mexico will authorize the entrance of all of those individuals for humanitarian reasons, in compliance with its international obligations, while they await the adjudication of their asylum claims. Mexico will also offer jobs, healthcare and education according to its principles.

The United States commits to work to accelerate the adjudication of asylum claims and to conclude removal proceedings as expeditiously as possible.

Further Actions

Both parties also agree that, in the event the measures adopted do not have the expected results, they will take further actions. Therefore, the United States and Mexico will continue their discussions on the terms of additional understandings to address irregular migrant flows and asylum issues, to be completed and announced within 90 days, if necessary.

Ongoing Regional Strategy

The United States and Mexico reiterate their previous statement of December 18, 2018, that both countries recognize the strong links between promoting development and economic growth in southern Mexico and the success of promoting prosperity, good governance and security in Central America. The United States and Mexico welcome the Comprehensive Development Plan launched by the Government of Mexico in concert with the Governments of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to promote these goals. The United States and Mexico will lead in working with regional and international partners to build a more prosperous and secure Central America to address the underlying causes of migration, so that citizens of the region can build better lives for themselves and their families at home.

Mexico is long overdue in enforcing its own immigration laws on its southern border. Their laws are far more stringent than ours but since the cartels control the criminal government, they're ignored.

I'll never forget how Mexico, our alleged "ally", imprisoned and tortured our Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi for years only because he made a simple mistake at Mexico's northern border.
