Mexico releases full text of migration agreement that Trump inadvertently flashed to cameras
Mexico on Friday released a copy of a supplementary agreement to stop migrant flows into the U.S. -- days after Trump inadvertently flashed parts of the deal to cameras.
The June 7 deal will require migrants moving to the border via Mexico to seek asylum there, and for Mexico to identify changes in domestic law to implement the agreement, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The agreement also calls for discussions to establish “definitive terms for a binding bilateral agreement to further address burden-sharing and the assignment of responsibility for processing refugee status claims of migrants.”
The language is close to that of a “safe third country” agreement that the U.S. has been seeking that means migrants entering Mexico apply for asylum there rather than the U.S. Mexico has resisted such a designation.
The agreement includes a clause by which, if the U.S. determines that the measures adopted by Mexico have not achieved sufficient results in preventing migrant flows after 45 days, then “Mexico will take all necessary steps under domestic law to bring the agreement into force.”
Trump had flashed a folded copy of the deal to reporters this week, and said it’s “the agreement that everybody says I don’t have.” Photojournalists, however, were able to see through the paper and glimpse part of the agreement.
The supplementary deal’s release comes a week after Trump announced that the two countries had reached an agreement to prevent U.S. tariffs on Mexican imports in exchange for Mexico taking tougher measures on migrant flows -- that have increased significantly in recent months to well over 100,000 a month.
According to a joint declaration issued by the State Department and Mexico last week, Mexico will take “unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration, to include the deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.”
The U.S. will also expand its “Remain-in Mexico” policy of returning asylum applicants to Mexico while their claims are processed. The U.S. committed to accelerate asylum claims while Mexico said it will “offer jobs, healthcare and education according to its principles.”
“Mexico will try very hard, and if they do that, this will be a very successful agreement for both the United States and Mexico!” Trump said last Saturday.
According to the Journal, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said this week that it is seeking a multilateral solution to the crisis, and will begin working with several U.N. agencies beginning next week.
“This isn’t just a Mexican issue, not just an issue for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, it’s one of the biggest migration flows in the world,” he said.

Dedicated to all those who denied there was any written agreement!
Great seed. Let em read it and weep!
Well, when the story first came out everybody was questioning whether Trump really had a deal in writing.
As usual Trump was telling the truth!
The Democrats must despise those they condescendingly call "brown people"
This was a fantastic achievement by Trump..
So in other words, conservatives that have been praising the Mexican immigration system over ours are now cheering on them changing their laws.
Haha
Actually I don't see the agreement anywhere and WSJ is a paywall. Reading what is above just says talks will continue.
Said Trump: “Now with our new deal, Mexico is doing more for the USA on Illegal Immigration than the Democrats. In fact, the Democrats are doing NOTHING, they want Open Borders, which means Illigal Immigration, Drugs and Crime.”
Right again Mr President!
Actually I don't see the agreement anywhere and WSJ is a paywall.
Just like I never saw the collusion with Russia. The difference is I had my eyes open.
I guess some will still deny it.
I just think it is comical that of all the things going on in the world , this is one thing that has the right wing panties in a bunch.
You all can scream to the wind but the truth is trump had everything he wanted about a year ago. He refused several bills just because they had protections for Dreamers.
No Ender, the protections for dreamers ceased to be a concern for democrats as soon as a Federal Judge (A Clinton Judge) ruled that the DACA people were protected from deportation. That ended any motivation for an immigration deal.
"With all the things going on in the world", thousands pouring into the country should concern any American!
It will cease to be a concern when trump stops deporting people that have served in the military.
If he can't even do that I would never trust him on Dreamers.
No Vic, the House passed an immigration bill that includes DACA. Here, I'm linking a source that even you will believe.
BTFW, it was a bi-partisan bill...
Only you would call that bi-partisan!
Just seven Republicans voted to support the bill, while all 187 "no" votes came from Republicans.
Passing a bill that does nothing but help the DACA people is not immigration reform. Nothing coming out of the House will go anywhere without compromise!
Actually, McConnell has called bills 'bi-partisan' with only ONE Democratic vote.
I didn't say it was reform Vic.
Yet you said that 'the protections for dreamers ceased to be a concern for democrats' and that was obviously bullshit.
What? Pissed off that the flow of illegals to our country is going to be slowed, even if by only a little bit?
Which is more than any of the past administrations have done.
Oh, and a direct quote from the Mexican Foreign minister from the article. Since the left never believes anything Trump says.
Looks like Mexico is prepping themselves for a major problem in the very near future. Wonder why that is if "nothing has changed".
So Mexico is going to consult with the UN. A novel idea.
Better the UN than the US. Let the UN foot the bill for a change.
Actually I agree. Let them get involved.
It is their job; unfortunately they seem unwilling and unable to do it.
Of course given their rousing success in Afghanistan, I am not shocked to see they want nothing to do with South or Central America.
You don't need the WSJ. The seeded article is Fox News, and embedded in the article is the US State Department's agreement with Mexico.
Seeded article:
US-Mexico Joint Declaration:
That was easy!
Actually I found that. This agreement still doesn't say much of anything and is very vague.
Most of it is things that are already happening.
Novel idea. What people on the left have been saying all along....
Yet somehow always failing to follow through; which is the reason we are in this mess now. Of course Republicans share the blame. The US sucks at nation building. Let the UN handle it and foot the bill; like it is supposed to.
As I consider it a growing humanitarian crisis, it is one place they should be involved.
Of course then we would have the anti globalist people expressing their dismay.
( avg secure browser ) it is free, read as many articles as ya want, as often as ya want.
untrackable
Bringing up WSJ was just an excuse to not read the seeded article from FNC. Comment 4.3 showed Ender how easy it is to find facts that Vic also presented in his introduction.
ya, I caught that bit.
was just info for future reference... as paywalls do exist.
they day I let some website track me and get that last word on what I can read, has not gone by just yet.
google cache is another shortcut...
sometimes just going to google first. searching the title and entering that way works as well. (this has been working less as time goes on. while avg secure browser works every time.
cheers
I hear you. WSJ and WaPo used to offer 10 free reads per month; now they don't.
I don't know if you meant "google" as a generic term for searching, but if you meant the real Google search engine ... I stopped using it and Bing years ago. Too much tracking. DuckDuckGo is far better/safer, IMO.
Vic ... sorry for the brief detour!
avg secure browser = googles tracking denied in full also
regardless of what site, no cookie shall pass without authorization.
ha... LOL that is simply too damn funny.
fake news at its finest... and people are worried about fake videos?
So Trump and Mexico made the Earth shattering agreement to 'immediately begin discussions to establish definitive terms for a binding bilateral' Earth shattering agreement.
try again.... from 4 days ago.
Mexico Deploying Troops to Border With Guatemala
The deployment is a part of an immigration deal inked between Mexico and the U.S. on Friday.
Starting from today, and in the coming days, the deployment is going to progress rapidly," Ebrard said in a news conference with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, according to Reuters.
people living in a fake reality need fake news or they will explode... LOL
That deployment wasn't part of the 'secret' agreement that the seed is about.
It was part of the agreement that was OPENLY announced and which Trump pretended was JUST agreed upon even though it was agreed on when Nielson was still in office.
FAIL.
What is doesn't jibe with is the agreement that is the topic of the seed...
DO try to keep up.
People living in a ideological bubble post knee jerk uninformed comments that are irrelevant to the topic of the seed.
fascism came to america in the form of liberalism... that is a fact.
but we got this... more people wake up and are catching on to leftwing bs every single day.
I'm sure you believe that despite all facts to the contrary.
No worries. At least I know WTF the seed is about.
Never have.
Perhaps you don't understand how negotiations between nations work. They often take time and the details aren't issued to the public until they are finalized.
The finalized US-Mexico Joint Declaration was announced on June 7, 2019.
That is for sure. Reagan was right as usual. A great man and one of our greatest ever Presidents.
“The United States and Mexico met this week to address the shared challenges of irregular migration, to include the entry of migrants into the United States in violation of U.S. law. Given the dramatic increase in migrants moving from Central America through Mexico to the United States, both countries recognize the vital importance of rapidly resolving the humanitarian emergency and security situation. The Governments of the United States and Mexico will work together to immediately implement a durable solution.
As a result of these discussions, the United States and Mexico commit to:
Mexican Enforcement Surge
Mexico will take unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration, to include the deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border. Mexico is also taking decisive action to dismantle human smuggling and trafficking organizations as well as their illicit financial and transportation networks. Additionally, the United States and Mexico commit to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including information sharing and coordinated actions to better protect and secure our common border.
Migrant Protection Protocols
The United States will immediately expand the implementation of the existing Migrant Protection Protocols across its entire Southern Border. This means that those crossing the U.S. Southern Border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to Mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims.
In response, Mexico will authorize the entrance of all of those individuals for humanitarian reasons, in compliance with its international obligations, while they await the adjudication of their asylum claims. Mexico will also offer jobs, healthcare and education according to its principles.
The United States commits to work to accelerate the adjudication of asylum claims and to conclude removal proceedings as expeditiously as possible.
Further Actions
Both parties also agree that, in the event the measures adopted do not have the expected results, they will take further actions. Therefore, the United States and Mexico will continue their discussions on the terms of additional understandings to address irregular migrant flows and asylum issues, to be completed and announced within 90 days, if necessary.
Ongoing Regional Strategy
The United States and Mexico reiterate their previous statement of December 18, 2018, that both countries recognize the strong links between promoting development and economic growth in southern Mexico and the success of promoting prosperity, good governance and security in Central America. The United States and Mexico welcome the Comprehensive Development Plan launched by the Government of Mexico in concert with the Governments of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to promote these goals. The United States and Mexico will lead in working with regional and international partners to build a more prosperous and secure Central America to address the underlying causes of migration, so that citizens of the region can build better lives for themselves and their families at home.

I was trying to be gentle.
Perhaps you don't understand how this forum works. We discuss TOPICS based on the SEEDED article. The link you posted has NOTHING to do with 'immigration agreement' that the seeded article is about.
Thanks for playing.
Really?
In comments 4.3 and 7.1.12 I posted links to the seeded article and the embedded US State Department link that details the US-Mexico agreement.
By now, you should know that I don't "play". Read my two comments, and you'll see that I was on topic in both of them. Perhaps you should open links before falsely accusing members.
Your 7.1.12 post is the one I am replying to and then one that has NOTHING to do with the topic of the seeded article.
Not well.
I did open the link to confirm that it WAS NOT about the migration agreement that is the topic of the seed.
I didn't falsely accuse you of anything. My accusation was spot on.
It is quite sad that Mexico is going to do more to help with the issue of illegal and so called asylum seekers at our border than our own democrats will do.
Mexico is long overdue in enforcing its own immigration laws on its southern border. Their laws are far more stringent than ours but since the cartels control the criminal government, they're ignored.
I'll never forget how Mexico, our alleged "ally", imprisoned and tortured our Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi for years only because he made a simple mistake at Mexico's northern border.
I was an illegal alien in australia... stayed too long.
but I never cost them a penny, except for the cops salary who escorted me to the airport.
he said : do I have to stand here and watch you board that plane?
I said: yes sir.
he smiled back at me and then we hung out and talked until they borded the plane...
he asked where I had been... on a walkabout I replied.
was good fun
