Today I Became an Old(s) 88
Today I Became an Old(s) 88
It’s true that I’m vintage, and some of my parts are a bit rusty but they can still operate to carry out their purpose. The old pump is still pumping strong at about 70 per/min, and even though I’m pretty basic with nothing automatic and certainly nothing electronic I can still get around without the help of wheels (anti-gravity levitation perhaps?). Granted I do get a little pain in the axles, get exhaust ed sooner than before, but all my parts are original. What’s really important is that even though I was manufactured way back in the late 1930s the old motor is still ticking. And so, given one wish today, my wish is that I will still be functioning a decade from now when I could qualify to become nothing less than an Old(s) 98 .

A Happy Birthday to ya Mutha Frcker , good for you !
My own father turned 88 this past December, so you are the new olds 88, at least newer. N Joy
Thanks, Iggy.
Happy birthday to my fellow Commonwealther..🇭🇲🇨🇦
Hope you enjoy your day...not a bad to celebrate it..
It's on Australia Day...🎉🎊🎂🎈
Thank you. Will you waltz with me, Matilda, even if I'm not a swagman?
Probably depends on today's weather conditions in the billabong!
Yep would certainly be jumping into the Billabong at the moment..
Though a cool change is swinging in thank goodness..
Happy Birthday, Buzz. May you have many, many more!
Thanks Perrie. Ten more would be enough.
Have a great birthday!
Thank you, GG. You be safe!!!
And now, my favourite cake - 12 individual sections. 2 each of chocolate cake, white cake, layer cake, pineapple cheesecake, fruit cake and blueberry cheesecake. YUM!!!
.
Eight candles, representing 88. Thinking about that 98 Old(s) wish.
.
Buzz and Farm Girl (the boss)
Happy Birthday Buzz, and take it easy on the cake.
Thank you, Vic. No problem with the cake, only one section a day. That way I can have my cake and eat it too.
Morning... crikey...just as well you are over there with all those candles..
Total fire ban day here today and it's 35c already..damn wind is up as well..hate days like this...
The firies would have been called out if anyone saw those candles on the cake...🚒
Hope you enjoyed your day and the cake looks great...I will be right over for smoko...(Morning tea)...
If we had lit 88 candles instead of just 8 we might have burned the building down.
Happy Birthday
Thanks Charger. What's happening with the car?
The very cold weather we are having has slowed progress and they are trying to get my truck finished first. I have not been pushing them too hard because I will put in in garage until spring weather. They are slow but do good work reasonably priced.
If your truck is vintage as well then the article I want to do should include both. Let's wait until both are finished and the weather is good for photos.
the truck is 1975 Dodge Powerwagon 4x4 that came with a snowplow
Half a century old makes it vintage.
Happy Birthday Buzz
Thank you, Greg. I appreciate your good wishes.
Happy Birthday Buzz, from what we can see on NT you appear to be going strong ! Many more !
Thanks, JR. A little rusty, but I'm still...
Happy Birthday Buzz!
You have not become old, you have become wizened, mature, well-read, world-traveled astute, well educated, articulate and affable in sharing your knowledge and wisdom with the rest of us.
I look forward to many more years of you pointing out my errors and explaining why they are erros.
I appreciate your good wishes and promise that I'll ease up on pointing out your errors. Have I really been doing that?
Buzz
Please don't stop!
I meant that in the best of ways, you make me think and rethink things I think I know, or what I think about things with your questions and comments.
I take it totally in a positive way.
You help me understand simple and complex things better
That is the purpose of discussion and debate in my view
Okay, Robert, I'm happy to know that my responses are realized to be positively meant.
Have a great Birthday Buzz
Thank you RDtC. I'll stay as close to the centre as I can.
Happy Birthday Buzz!! Here's hoping you make it to another milestone (as per your Olds 88 line).
Thanks, Snuffy. Don't worry, I intend to....
Happy Birthday, Buzz!
Thanks, Sandy, for your good wishes, and for the good you bring to NT.
Happy Birthday Buzz, May your day be blessed with family and friends.
Thank you my friend. As you can see here there are many friends, while others have texted me, emailed me, and all my family have all done so as well.
Happy Birthday Buzz, retread the tires, overhaul the engine, fix the AC and you’re good for another 20,000 miles.
LOL. Thanks for your good wishes and adding them right on topic.
Happy Birthday Buzz, like a good wine you're only getting better with age
If wine had the ability to preserve me I'd be a drunkard, but I haven't had a drop of any alcoholic beverage for more than a year, and that small glass of wine was the first for a few years. I haven\t smoked for at least a quarter of a century as well. Maybe those are reasons why I'm still kicking.
Happy Birthday, Buzz. May you receive what you request from 'those tending the eternal Desk'!' You are one interesting (if peculiar) man in your writings! I am starting to like that!
If by "peculiar" you mean different from others, I appreciate the description, but if you mean "odd" then I'm not so sure. In any event, thank you for the good wishes.
I observe your plain spoken (no guile) approach to writing is all I mean and its can be stark, abrupt, and. . .refreshing. That is all I mean.
Okay, thahks, I'm glad you appreciate my style. There are some here who are unable to handle it.
Actually that's one of the most pronounced traits of Aquarius-- they tend to "Think Different". mentally sharp, innovative, creative.
Also often very idealistic-- want to make the world a better place.
One of my favouite videos; "Think Different". IMO this video exemplifies strong Aquarian traits: creative, non-conformist, idealists who want to change the world. (Buzz: its the following Apple Commericial-- you should be able to find it on a search engine):
Apple Think Different Advertising Campaign 1997-2002 Full Version
Buzz-- can you relate to any of these traits?
I'd be happy if I could just do that for NT.
Is this what you meant?
LINK -> 乔布斯对“Think Different”的提案,值得反复观看!!!!_哔哩哔哩_bilibili
If bilibili stops the video with a big screen blocking the video, just click the X at the top right of it, and then click the arrow at the bottom right of the one that replaces it and the original video will continue. The video is one of Steve Jobs talking about people who think differently, and it then turns into examples showing Einstein, Dylan, Ghandi etc.
You already have!
It used to be that logging on, all that would be seen were politics-- and many of those comments were personal attacks. More recently, logging on, more and more one sees seeds about things other than politics.
Although it worthy of note that there have been a few other people here who seed non-political articles from time to time. (AMAC photography, Shona re: life in Australia, Dig re: gardening, John Russell re: music videos and a few others)
But you've made it the major focus of your seeds!
I had no problem viewing it.
Actually the version you linked two is two videos in one. It starts with Steve Jobs talking about his (Apple's) values-- which BTW includes being visionaries.
There are two messages there:
1. Visionary-- wanting to change the world for the better.
And
2. The marketing strategy he uses-- then showing an example-- the actual "Think Different" video. *The video I seeded is only the second part-- the "Think Different video (It starts at about 5:51 into the video you linked to.
Both of these, and the way he thinks-- have a very strong "Aquarian" energy: Idesalistic. But also conceptual.
In addition, the energy of Aquarius is often related to ability with, and/or interest in technology (computers, and also networking).
Lol could still use more of that
This site is very important to me because it allows me to converse in English with many, and to have friends with whom I am able to communicate since my wife is not very fluent in English and I'm not sufficiently fluent in Chinese to converse, since I only know a number of everyday phrases and words, and for sure I'll never be able to read the language. Since I'm the spam police on this site I'm notified when a new member sign up so I catch those who post spam and immediately delete their membership if they are spammers and the spam they post. Because most of the spammers come from the east when I'm awake I catch most of them and if a new signup does not post spam I still check them every day for a month because some spammers are pretty cagey.
Why am I telling you all that? Because of my being notified of every new signup, I'm aware of how very VERY few new good new members we get. Most who aren't spammers are never heard from again and it is really rare that we get a new member who becomes active on the site. Months can go by before we do. So I'm worried about NT becoming no longer worth the R.A.'s time, effort and expense. I am convinced that many of the valid new members who sign up and then disappear do so because they have no use for the unbelievable pettiness and malfeasance of those who use this site just to argue politics and insult any who don't share their views. So what do I do? I do my best to try to have the Front (Home) Page bear at least SOME articles of other topics that could be of interest to those who seek communicating on a higher level. They don't last long because they usually get so few votes up and/or comments but sometimes one miraculously stays visible for more than a day or two.
There are others as well, and there have been more who have given up but try as some might, nobody is going to chase me away or make me stop what I'm doing.
Everyone should watch that "Think different" video. It refers to people whose intent is/was to make the world a better place. I'm not that ambitious, but I am trying to make NT a better place.
I'm quite happy to be an Aquarian, and in accordance with Chinese astrology, a rat.
From your lips to God's ears.
Do you question new members as to why they are leaving, or do you assume they leave because there is too much "politics" here? (My guess would be that they leave because there is too much trolling here)
Newstalkers is, by its very name, a current events forum.
I agree that other topics must be honored, but history, philosophy and religion discussions are pretty non existent here. I have tried to seed some from time to time and nothing happens.
I try to comment on your seeds when the topic interests me, although I have no interest in discussing the merits of Jane Austen or luxury boats. To each their own.
Only very rarely, and in fact only twice in the many years I've been the spamchaser have I contacted a new member - that's normally for the R.A. to do.
Yes, it isn't because of the politics, IMO it's because of the trolling, the nastiness, the bitching about the moderation, the insults, the proselytizing (not much of that any more) that new members leave without posting anything and some do who HAVE posted - if I had seen it when I signed up I wouldn't have stayed either, but then I signed up at the beginning.
I wish it would be redescribed as a social media forum.
Religion as a topic can be a problem because it's bound to lead to proselytizing. I guess I've referred to religion in comments I've made about the Middle East. Don't be discouraged if your non-political articles don't get much response, but your music ones do, and don't forget that the whole world can see the articles we post and it's been proven already that it can draw in new members.
Of course I don't expect anyone to be interested enough in all the topics I post, but I post many different topics because I have many interests, and politics is not a big one.
Perhaps some of them were looking for a social media site that was free of all the stupid personal attacks (in recent years they've become harder to find)-- and initially they had thought that NT might be free of that...and quit when they saw how much there was.
But the good news is-- there are more and more non-political posts here-- they tend to have less personal attacks, less of that juvenile personal nastiness.
So perhaps over time more newbies will stick around..
In terms of "occasional miracles"-- I am of the opinion that its possible to consciously make miracles happen more frequently (sometimes it just takes a while to figure out how to do it...)
Remember there used to be a really nasty dude on NV that was very manipulative---an accomplished con artist, He cause a lot of discord, personal attacks. He conned a lot of users to back him up. And he even manipulated the head mods to like him.
It took a while, but some of "the good guys" finally created the miracle-- and he was no longer on the site!
Well, if you can believe it, a while back I actually had to lock a Jane Austen vs Charles Dickens article because it really got into those negative things.
Can you teach me how to do it? I could use some help in determining a winning lottery number.
I only remember one who was a horrid antisemite. I can't remember his name.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUZZ!
Thanks Krishna. I'm happy to say it WAS happy.
Glad to hear that!
It's already tomorrow, and I'm STILL happy.
Happy Birthday, Buzz!!
Good timing, too. I've always kind of envied people with winter birthdays. As long as they're after Christmas, that is. Something to break up the blahs in what I consider the least enjoyable time of year.
Hope you had a great day!
Thanks, Dig. Yeah, I get what you mean about the least enjoyable time of year, but that depends on each person's specific interests. For you, the seasons that you can grow your veggies is important, whereas to a skier or ice-skater, this time of year is the best. Anyway, sure, I had a great day, but these days most of my days are pretty good cause they don't really differ that much. However, I get to go out more often when it isn't winter.
Also where you live.
I had never been to Florida. Finally went to Southern Florida for a week in the Winter! Wonderful climate-- just like Spring in the "normal" parts of the world!
Actually I went Christmas Week. They have this amazing "Boat Parade" Xmas week. Also, I was fascinating to see Christmas lights wrapped around the trunks of Palm trees.
From the time I was 16, over the years I spent a lot of time in Southern Florida, even owned with my brother a golf condo in Pembroke Pines, which is west of Hollywood, Florida. Only one time I went with my wife for a week, and it was so cold there were only 3 days when we could lie out on the beach, and even then we had to wear sweaters.
I have never been able to get the feeling of Christmas when there wasn't any snow.
