On The Eve Of His Inauguration, The Majority Of Americans Think Donald Trump Is Not Qualified To Be President Of The United States

1. White people are the only group that have a favorable view of Trump at anything near 50 percent.

Trump spent the long Martin Luther King weekend  tweeting  racialized insults at civil rights icon John Lewis, who was marching and getting  mercilessly beaten  by racist cops back when Trump was racking up  Vietnam war deferments  because his feet hurt until the moment the war ended. That was fully in character with the guy whose entire presidential run was launched by assuming the role of birther-in-chief, and who spent 18 months co-signing his angry followers’ ludicrous belief that Muslims, blacks and immigrants are stealing a country that rightfully belongs to them. It follows that just 17 percent of African Americans, 24 percent of Hispanics and 21 percent non-whites polled overall rated Trump favorably. In contrast, a whole 50 percent of whites think Trump is pretty cool.

2. Most Americans think Trump is unqualified to be president.

Fifty-two percent of respondents to the WaPo-ABC poll responded in the negative to the question, “Do you think Donald Trump is qualified to serve as president, or not?” As with a lot of the questions, divides are most glaringly observed along lines of party affiliation, race and class. A whopping  90 percent  of conservative Republicans said they think Trump is fully prepared to take on the task ahead of him, which only proves their ability to overlook every egregious failing a president can have unless he (and yes, emphasis on “he”) is black. Just 21 percent of Democrats agreed. White evangelical Protestants, a segment that worships a lord and savior who apparently wanted a man who brags about sexual assault to be president, have the most faith among white religious groups:  75 percent  stated Trump is qualified for his new job.

3. Three-quarters of Americans want Trump to release his tax returns.

Last week, after waiting long enough to ensure there wouldn’t be enough time for him to respond to all the questions begging for answers, Trump finally held a press conference. Between attacks on the media and con games about his business conflicts, he  insisted  that “the only one[s] that care about my tax returns are the reporters.” Today, we are all reporters, I guess. Or at least the near 75 percent of us who want to see whatever Russian shenanigans and account overdrafts he’s hiding in those tax documents.

4. Most Americans believe Russia hacked Democratic emails.

Most Americans, 65 percent, believe the 17 intelligence agencies that report Russia hacked the DNC. No one reason got a majority of votes, but the largest number of respondents, 45 percent, believe the cyberespionage was undertaken to help Trump beat Hillary Clinton. This bodes poorly for that huge back tattoo Trump has that reads, “It Coulda Been China.”

I have a feeling Trump won't be losing any sleep over this. The haters aren't going to be able to push him around.

I don't care who they are or why they said it. We are putting a man in office that over half of the country thinks is not capable of doing the job.

No one should be surprised that Trump is not being met with open arms.

His ascension is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people.

I didn't think Gerald Ford was capable of doing the job, but he managed somehow.

At least I'm willing to wait and see if he does a decent job or not, even if you aren't. After all, what choice do you have?

What is the definition of "qualification" in the survey? I can't tell whether respondents are being asked if they think Trump meets the qualifications in the constitution, whether he lacks knowledge that they think he should possess whether the constitution requires it or not, or whether they like or don't like him.

What do people think when they go into vote?

Do you anguish over that question the way you appear to be anguishing over this one?

We know that the Hillary voters don't like Trump and don't think he's qualified. She won the popular vote so most people expressing the view that he's unqualified, likely voted for her. He's obviously constitutionally qualified and the voters who voted for him had no problem with his qualifications. So basically all of this poll does is give a Hillary voter viewpoint as though that would mean something to Trump voters. Or am I missing something?

Yeah, your missing that the majority of Americans think he is not qualified to be president of the United States.

This is like questioning the qualifications of the pilot as he takes off. It's too late for that. Buckle your seatbelt.

Too bad the majority of the electorate voted for him. Any other bellwether is irrelevant.

I'm not thrilled with Trump being president, but I am resigned to it.  What is, is, and, that being said, there is not one darn thing I can do about it.  Or much of anything, anyway.  So, we'll all have to wait and see what happens-- we clearly aren't going to get much notice from the head office as to what will be attempted.

I think it's time we chill out on the front page.  No more I hate Obama/Trump/whoever articles.  It's a moot point to hate Obama, he's gone.  It's a moot point to hate Trump, he's in.  Can any of this hand-wringing get us what we want, (I'm assuming a "do over".)  Nope.

So why don't we quit fighting the same old battles, day after day after day...  It's the same people day after day after day.  Can't we all just leave it be for a bit?

Happy birthday, Janice Joplin!

Out of sight out of mind Dowser? This is the biggest news in the world right now.

Do people actually want a site named Newstalkers to not discuss the news?

Maybe she should change the name.

That's her point . . . the news is used to trigger the same discussion over and over. Trump's a dope; Hillary's a liar. Trump clearly stinks worse than Hillary; no Hillary stinks worse than Trump. Like it or not, Trump is president. Protesting the election and talking about what an idiot he is won't change a thing. What do you think is the next step?

Donald Trump is going to be opposed like no president in history, whether any of you like it or not.

That is what happens when you elect the most unqualified person in history to the presidency.

The NYT has a story tonight saying that Trump campaign aides are being investigated by the FBI for possible communications with Russia during the campaign.

Actually, he's so full of himself that he might not be able to deal with being despised. But if he quits, you get Mike Pence . . . he's probably the power behind the throne anyway.

No, but there is a LOT of news to discuss.  We all seem to be stuck in a groove-- I hate Trump/Obama.  Isn't there something else going on we can talk about-- or at least talk about Trump/Obama in a non-hateful way?

It's getting REAL tiresome.

FYI:  I don't hate anyone.  Especially the people here.  I would love to discuss things with all of you-- but not this way.  I hold no animosity toward any of you.  I'm glad to see almost everyone here.  Can't we revert to normal human being status, rather than galvanized political hatred?

Well I would love to, but I'm getting damned tired of being called a traitor, a turd polisher, Trump worshiper, He's my hero and any of the other myriad things they wish to blurt out in their ignorance.

There is a limit, and I for one have reached it.

So it gets to the point is that all they want is to foment hate, then we get punished for giving it to them...

How fair is that?

It's a liberal right to foment hate without response? It's a conservative duty to take all abuse a liberal wishes to dish out without response??

I've had my fill and will start giving back as I get.

It's time someone puts a halt to it.

They call you a traitor to deflect from the fact that they supported someone who got busted trying to rig a primary. It's a snowflake attack. Just piss on em and watch them melt.

Concerning you entire comment, the last statement says it all and it would have continued on a much more devastating level had the election turned out different.  They were almost there where they wanted to be.

Think about it for a moment.  Hillary is a power hungry individual and she would have felt it was her responsibility to show Obama how it is done.  Obama divided us over the last 8 years, but in such a sly and deceiving way, many could never detect how it was being done.  Hillary with the complacent Congress would have many more refugees and illegals turned into American voting citizens.  Not to mention the SCOTUS would have become completely Radical or Liberal in today's definition of the word.  This in itself could have produced a disaster for this country and the citizens.

The Democrats would have ruled for many years and we would have continued down the road to Socialism.  Just remember Socialism is for the people, not the elite or Socialist.
