Trump has fired FBI director Comey - White House
Trump has fired FBI director Comey - White House
WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump on Tuesday fired FBI Director James Comey in a shock development, saying Comey was no longer able to effectively lead the agency.
"It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission," he said in a letter to Comey released by the White House.
This is a breaking news alert. Check back later for more.
LOL, the carnival continues.
More information.

Trump sold "Hillary for Prison" merch on his
campaign website. So, I'm skeptical that he fired Comey over his
handling of Hillary's emails.
There is a tweet for every occasion. Mr. Compton kind of nails it. The faux 'reason' being offered is that Comey mishandled the release of information concerning Hillary's e-mails. Well, Comey's handling of those e-mails helped get Trump elected. Rather than firing Comey , Trump should be sending Comey gifts. Except for one thing. Comey has acknowledged that he is investigating the Trump campaign for collusion with the Russians.
Trump just needed some time to think about whether to fire the bungler who handed him the Presidency. Sure.

I'm beyond skeptical. He did it because he didn't like the way the investigation of his Russian ties seemed to be going. (And IMO the recent Yates testimony was especially damaging to Trump's case).
• Trump fires Sally Yates when she brings him news about a Russia connection and expresses a problem with Trump's immigration ban …
• Trump fires Comey when he speaks of an investigation into a Russia connection …
• Included in Trump's letter firing Comey today conveniently included Trump's "thanks to Comey for telling him (Trump) three times that he " … is not under investigation … " -- DO WE KNOW IF THAT'S TRUE?
• Trump fires Michael Flynn 18 DAYS AFTER THE WHITE HOUSE IS TOLD THAT "FLYNN COULD BE BLACKMAILED BY RUSSIA" -- and then, ONLY BECAUSE YATE'S WARING ABOUT FLYNN WAS LEAKED TO THE PRESS AND THE PUBLIC BECAME AWARE!
IMO … OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE!
And the Trump useful idiots will continue to call everything they don't want to hear … "FAKE NEWS" …
And Mike Pence has a credibility problem IMO; the alleged reason for firing Flynn was that "Flynn lied to Pence about his (Flynn's) conversation with a Russian official about sanctions against Russia."
But Pence, as head of the Trump Transition TEAM … GOT THE WARNING FROM SALLY YATES … SO HE KNEW THE TRUTH BEFORE FLYNN "lied to him".
It's time for Trump sycophants to put the security of America ahead of looking the other way because Trump, who hates the same people they hate, is the attraction!
That's some serious hysterical spin. Sounds like typical liberal fake news. Dismissed.
I think this increases the possibility of Impeachment. (Whether or not that actually happens, only time will tell...)
OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE!
You obviously have no idea what that term means. You might as well just shout out names of other random crimes like a deranged panhandler if you think that constitutes "obstruction of justice"

Give us all a break, Sean. Don't talk down to me.
Obstruction may consist of any attempt to hinder the discovery, apprehension, conviction or punishment of anyone who has committed a crime. The acts by which justice is obstructed may include bribery, murder, intimidation, and the use of physical force against witnesses, law enforcement officers or court officials.
OSBA | What You Should Know about Obstruction of Justice
Yes, and nothing you cite contains any evidence to support that allegation.
Is this the new white whale since the Russian conspiracy turned into such a crap sandwich for you?
If you want to argue its politically a mistake, I would agree, but to claim it's evidence of a crime is silly.

You live in the "Fake News" Bubble …
YOu just argued that Yates being fired for refusing to do her job is evidence of obstruction of justice and you dare to claim others live in a "fake news bubble."
You don't lack for stones.

You don't lack for stones.
Your comment makes no sense; Yates was fired for apprising the White House of improprieties … her function is not prosecutorial! She gave the EMPEROR THE NEWS THAT HE WASN'T WEARING ANY CLOTHES!
And your Pee Wee Herman defense is just that.
Yates was fired for apprising the White House of improprieties
Are you just making things up now? She was fired for ordering the DOJ not to enforce the executive order the Office of Legal Counsel signed off on. That's the textbook definition of insubordination and that's why she was fired. That's not even debatable.
This isn't dailykos where you just make up things without reference to the real world for the pleasure of fellow fever swamp dwellers. Google will tether you to reality if you let it.
Speaking of Yates, she apprised the White House Counsel that intelligence services had swept up compromising information about Flynn which would make him susceptible to blackmail, not to mention he was lying to the White House and the vice-president, and the administration did nothing for 18 days, waiting for it to blow over. Utter incompetence, at the least.
She was fired for ordering the DOJ not to enforce the executive order the Office of Legal Counsel signed off on. That's the textbook definition of insubordination and that's why she was fired. That's not even debatable.
Yates revealed that the Trump administration never advised her about Trump’s executive order until it was issued on Jan. 27. She said neither DOJ leaders nor subject matter experts were consulted about the executive order.
You are quite naive to believe that the "official reason" for her firing was THE reason.

Nor is it Fox News … ironic that you think you understand the "real world" when it comes to a President summarily firing the people who may have his ass in their briefcases.
She said neither DOJ leaders nor subject matter experts were consulted about the executive order.
Sorry, the DOJ's OLC signed off on the order. Look it up.
are quite naive to believe that the "official reason" for her firing was THE reason.
Are you kidding? You are lost in the equivalent of 9/11 truther conspiracy woods when you claim her firing hours after she publicly announced her insubordination was some pretext. If that's the level of crazy you want to sinking to, than it's pointless of discussing it.
She was fired for ordering the DOJ not to enforce the executive order the Office of Legal Counsel signed off on.
She was acting AG and found the travel ban to be unconstitutional as did numerous other judges. As acting AG her first duty was to uphold the constitution. Trump fired her then but would have replaced her anyway as her position was temporary.
"As acting AG her first duty was to uphold the constitution."
Nope. That's SCOTUS. Her job was to argue the administration's position or resign. Civics used to be taught in schools...
It's truly amazing how much b.s. gets regurgitated by people because it sounds nice. Her job was too enforce the order until a court tells her not to.
As Georgetown Law Professor Marty Lederman makes clear: "As long as the President’s view is that it’s lawful, of course the Department of Justice will defend its legality in court because the President gets the final word on how the Executive branch and the Department in particular, what position they take in court.”
She found Trump to be a hopeless asshole. She should get the Congressional Medal Of Freedom.
No Trump needs to continue and really get on the stick and get rid of all those moles still hanging around. Obama made the government his own. How many Generals and high ranking officers did he expunge from duty?
Her first duty is to uphold the rule of law not the whims of an idiot "president".
Exactly! That was her job. Her job as it was clearly stated was not to judge whether it was constitutional or not.
She also changed her story from the original. Before it was she didn't think it was right and now she doesn't think it was lawful.
"She found the travel ban to be unconstitutional"
No, she didn't. If you read her letter justifying her insubordination she doesn't say that. She said the policy was "unwise," and put her judgment above her boss, the democratically elected head of the country.
Here's what she said Sean:
“I am responsible for ensuring that the positions we take in court remain consistent with this institution’s solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right,” Yates wrote in a letter to justice department lawyers. “At present I am not convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful.”
"Yates was fired for apprising the White House of improprieties …"

Comey's "sins" evidently took place anywhere from 7 to 9 months ago. Trump has been president for 3 1/2 months.
The timing is a lot of trouble for Trump.
Trump's administration has bungled one thing after another. Now that they bungled this it will likely bite him in the ass at a new level.
Comey's "misstatement" about Huma's emails was just made public. That, it will be argued, is the straw that broke the camel's back.
While politically it doesn't make sense to fire Comey, he's certainly been highly politicized. A fresh start is probably best.
Comey's "misstatement" about Huma's emails was just made public.
That may be the PR fig leaf. I think the letter from the Deputy AG tells a different story. The Huma thing just came out a couple days ago. This firing was in the works before that.
Comey's "misstatement" about Huma's emails was just made public. That, it will be argued, is the straw that broke the camel's back.
Comey made the statement before acquiring a subpoena to open the computer SO HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS ON WEINER'S COMPUTER!
Fuck up #1.
Then, he found NOTHING IN THE WAY OF NEW E-MAILS ON THAT COMPUTER!
Fuck up #2
And Comey, while also investigating the Trump campaign and Russia, DID NOT MAKE ANY STATEMENTS ABOUT IT BECAUSE "We don't discuss on-going investigations."
Why the Clinton investigation but not the Trump/Russia investigation?
Fuck up #3
Your selective indignation is symptomatic of what has put American democracy at risk!
So that's your justification for firing Comey.
So that's your justification for firing Comey.
Don't put words in my mouth … I did not state whether or not I think it was justified … if anything, the last "justification" would be to obstruct an on-going investigation.
Don't respond with gotcha' questions … if you have something definitive to add, do it. My statements are clear; you're the one connecting the dots … I'm just listing the events in a sequence,
First, without evidence, you claim that Comey's firing is evidence of a criminal act. Then you provide an argument justifying the dismissal of Comey for cause.
Maybe the two sides of your brain should talk to each other.
First, without evidence, you claim that firing is evidence of a criminal act. Then you provide an argument justifying the dismissal of Comey for cause.

Comey was the best thing about the 2016 election cycle. He was an honest man in the midst of liars and scoundrels. I'm sorry to see him go.
"The only explanation for why #Comey was fired is
he was investigating the man who fired him"
- @JeffreyToobin on CNN just now
Trump's machinations are always crude. He revels in bald faced lying. It is his thing.
By firing Comey for so little obvious justification Trump can both try and rid himself of the investigation of his campaign and thumb his nose at his critics and enemies.
Recall Nixon firing those who wouldn't fire Archibald Cox?
The Saturday night massacre.
Republicans trying to whitewash this gross abuse of power, stop. The President is trying to kill the investigation into his ties w/ Russia.
The investigation that has found nothing?! Lol.
Seems like anyone who comes close to the truth gets fired. Its like following the dead bodies in mother russia.
Its like following the dead bodies in mother russia.
Don't you mean like following the dead bodies on the back trail of Hillary Clinton's political career?
Wow. The dumbass is strong in here tonight. Seriously, just because Comey gets fired, you think investigations into Russian ties stops?
Comey misled in testimony about Humma emails. If he hadn't been fired, you dumbasses would be screaming for his head, just like dumbass Durbin did. So now he's fired. And you, just like the dumbasses in the Democratic party are all of a sudden seeing conspiracies about Russians again.
Fuck me. I don't know why I even come in this place anymore.
Good Luck finding anyhting about the Huma situation in these letters

Bruce, the instance that is cited in the letter that is said to disqualify Comey is 10 months old. Trump has been president for 3 1/2 months.
Why the time gap in consequences for Comeys failure of 10 months ago?
And Sessions should not have written a letter recommending the dismissal of an official who is investigating HIM.
Total corruption from totally corrupt people.

I said he mislead. Schumer (not Durbin, I get dumbasses mixed up) called for his resignation. IN fact, when he made the October surprise about reopening the investigation, all you fuckers wanted his head then.
Oh but now, because Trump fired him, it's a bad thing. You Comment removed for CoC violation [ph] would get pissed if Trump found a cure for cancer.

Or maybe its the idea that you voted for this vulgar, ignorant, bumbling POS that makes you sick. Truth hurts sometimes.
I'm glad he fired him. Now hopefully he can punish him and Obama for spying on him and his campaign.
Five people gave thumbs up to a comment that had three COC violations in it.
Lest we forget ... Deven Nunes.
Jason Chafettz walking away ...
I wonder if the attitude of the progressives and lefties would be the same if Hillary had been elected and fired Comey for almost scuttling her campaign. Did she not say that his letter on the eve of the election was one of the reasons why she lost?
Remember liberals have established that things that are unconstitutional for Trump would have been fine for the harridan.

Speculative counselor.
LOL. I'm entitled, I enjoy being devil's advocate.
So our new Attorney General who recused himself from the Trump-Russia investigation just fired the man in charge of the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation. Wow.
Two more possible Obstruction phenomena;
AG Sessions recused himself from the Clinton Investigation and the Trump Russia investigation ... AND YET it was Sessions who recommended the firing of Comey ... who has been central to both investigations!!!
And Sessions cited Comey's handling of the Clinton investigation ... some10 months ago ... as the reason Comey should be fired.
Deny away Trump shills ... but the Trump world is about to cave in.

Obama Administration Tries to Fire FBI’s Comey Over Hillary Investigation!
November 4, 2016 10:03AM
Last week, FBI Director James Comey sent an explosive letter to Congress revealing that his agency had discovered thousands of emails relating to Hillary Clinton on a computer owned by Anthony “Carlos Danger” Weiner.
Not surprisingly, Democrats close to Hillary Clinton were outraged, and we have now learned that such anger reached the White House, with top Obama aides, including Valerie Jarrett, urging President Obama to fire Comey.
According to the New York Post , Obama and Jarrett were furious with Comey for reopening the investigation into Hillary’s email server less than 2 weeks before the election, and blame the FBI director for Clinton’s sliding poll numbers.
One source claims “Valerie argued that Comey was interfering deliberately in the election process and had to be stopped. The president said he was worried about the consequences of taking such an action — the tsunami of outrage that would come his way, and possibly become a major footnote, or worse, in the history of his presidency. There is also the real possibility that such an action could backfire on the president and result in a Saturday Night Massacre.”
While there is precedent for a president to fire his FBI Director, such an action just days before a close election would be suicidal and a political disaster. The post notes that while Obama claims he doesn’t want to get involved in the FBI’s investigation, he did say “it was important to follow a practice of not allowing intimations or suggestions to pervade the public’s view of the case.”
Ed Klein: Obama Had 'No Choice' But to Back Hillary, Refuse Prosecution
Tuesday, 04 Oct 2016 12:24 PM
President Barack Obama did not want Hillary Clinton to become the Democratic nominee because of his "blood feud" with former President Bill Clinton. But eventually, he supported her and backed away from prosecuting her for her use of a private email server when it became clear that he had no other choice, author Ed Klein said Tuesday.
"They really dislike each other, and his feeling was if the Clintons got in the White House, the Obamas would be marginalized," Klein, the author of the new book "Guilty as Sin: Uncovering New Evidence of Corruption and How Hillary Clinton and the Democrats Derailed the FBI Investigation" told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program.
Obama had secret meetings with both Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren in hopes of getting them to run against Clinton, but they both refused, Klein continued. Biden backed out after the death of his son, even though he really wanted to run, while Warren did not think it was yet her time.
And, Klein writes in his book, Obama wanted Clinton to be indicted, and gave the order to turn the information about her server over to the FBI.
"That was before he was stuck with her and realized he had to put his full support behind her," Klein said Tuesday, pointing to sources "both inside the White House, inside the Obama administration, inside the Clinton administration, and I have very good sources very close to Valerie Jarrett."
And after it was realized that Biden and Warren weren't going to run, a meeting was held with Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and Jarrett about turning the FBI away from filing charges against Clinton, Klein said in the book.
"What happened there is the attorney general, Loretta Lynch, was telling the public that this was an independent FBI investigation at the same time she was secretly going to the White House with FBI documents and filling in Valerie Jarrett and the president about what was going on so that they could get a strategy to make sure that she, Hillary, would not be indicted," Klein said Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Obama administration had leverage against FBI Director James Comey, Klein said, because of his concern with his own reputation.
"This building that he's in, the FBI Building, is literally falling down," Klein said. "It's crumbling. They are going to tear down that building. It's called the Hoover Building, right? His goal is to have the new building called the James Comey Building."
Klein also said he learned details about Clinton's health that could prove deadly.
"I found out that she has arrhythmia, which is an uncertain heartbeat," Klein said. "She has a leaky valve that the doctors wanted her to replace in a valve replacement surgery, and she said 'No, I'm afraid it would leak out and people would say then I'm not qualified to be president.'"
Klein continued that Clinton has a tendency to get blood clots, so "if she faints because of her low blood pressure and hits her head, she could have a blood clot that could be fatal."
REPORT: WHY HILLARY WONT’ ACCEPT Obama And Valerie Jarrett’s Invitation For Post-Inaugural Gathering To “Lay Groundwork For The Offensive Against Trump”
Jan 10, 2017
Why Hillary refused their request to join radical hit team may surprise you…Hillary Clinton has turned down repeated requests by Barack Obama to join him in a nationwide political movement that he plans to lead against the presidency of Donald Trump.
“Hillary’s received two phone calls from Obama and several from Valerie [Jarrett],” said a source familiar with Hillary’s conversations with the outgoing president and his chief political adviser. “They’ve been urging Hillary to get on board their anti-Trump campaign.
“They invited her to a post-Inaugural Day gathering at the mansion the Obamas have rented in D.C., where they’re going to lay the groundwork for the offensive against Trump,” the source added. “Among those on the invitation list: Donna Brazile, Nancy Pelosi, and James Carville. But Hillary told Obama and Valerie that she couldn’t work it into her schedule.”
According to the source, Hillary doesn’t have much faith in Obama’s leadership of an anti-Trump crusade.
“Obama’s proved time and again that he thinks only of himself, not of his fellow Democrats,” said the source. “He’s been a lousy leader of the Democratic Party and, after eight years in the White House, he’s left the party in shambles.
“There’s yet another reason Hillary doesn’t want to be associated with an Obama-led movement against Trump,” the source added.
“Trump has indicated he’s willing to let bygones be bygones as far as Hillary’s email scandal and her pay-to-play involvement with the Clinton Foundation. She doesn’t see any upside to pissing off Donald as he moves into the White House.”
well one thing I will say , Comey was no J Edgar, and wielded no where near the power or fear.
another thing I will posit , its been 10 months since the leaks that supposedly brought down the DNC and their "chosen one" and so far I have seen absolutely no evidence that the Russians did anything , least not anything that the government of this country hasn't done before themselves. been hearing a lot of caterwallin , and all the virtrol has done is convince me , I am very glad I have never voted for a progressive socialist, and as long as they control the DNC , never will.
you almost got on topic
This is right on topic. The Democrats wanted Comey fired long before he was fired for not handling Hillary's email case properly. Now she is fired. Aren't you satisfied now?
So the Democrats wanted Comey fired. Obama didn't want her to be the Democrat candidate and she didn't want the investigation to go on about the Clinton Foundation, which is pretty much dead in the water without any payback donors can count on.
And to add to that she isn't in the best physical health.
Comey should have been fired the day he let Hillary off for the crimes he said she was guilty of committing, but of course by then Obama was stuck with her and had to put his half-hearted effort into campaigning with her.
Trump has been investigated for nearly two years now and just yesterday the they said they still didn't have any evidence of Trump or any of his associates colluding with Russia.
Comey should have been gone a long time ago. Do worry about him. Somehow he has become a very wealthy man along the way and will still get his government paycheck. Probably go to work with some other company and make more than he is making now. You know it has been the Clinton legacy for someone other than the Clintons to take the fall. I guess it was his time this time.
Of course none of this would have every played out had Hillary Clinton not had her illegal server or turned in all her government emails when she left office, which she didn't do until over 2 years later upon request. With any of us the FBI would have given us a surprise visit, told us to stand over there and take the server with them and anything else they felt relevant to the case.
Bravo trump. One more step towards destroying this country.
Anyone care to bet who Trump hires to replace James Comey as FBI director?
My money is on Melania, with Steve Bannon running a close second, and Ivanka Trump's nanny holding firm in third place. It also wouldn't surprise me one bit if Putin was on the short list.
understand sheriff joe is out of work......
