“Sometimes the title has nothing to do with the content, unless you look really close - Baron Creek”
Port Congestion I keep reading about ports being congested and the solution being put forth is more and bigger ships to carry more containers. Excuse me, but the problem is also inland… as rail and truck hubs are also congested. UP and BNSF in July halted east bound from the west coast for 1...

“It's like déjà vu all over again. - Yogi Berra”
Not certain what is going on… but my grocery pickups are starting to become congested… again. Like in the heady days about 15 months ago. Scheduling 2 to 3 days in advance; lines of vehicles awaiting a spot; missing items, etc. I miss the good old days, from last fall until about a month ago....

“I prefer the term collector. Hoarder just sounds so negative. - Not sure of author”
Back in March of 2020, I decided to begin a ritual of hoarding, as I could clearly see the issues about to crop up with the supply chain. Unfortunately, I was a bit slow in that realization. An example would be that most necessary item of all… TP. I eventually ordered from Amazon and quickly...

“I think transitory is going to prove longer than what we expected, and even what the Fed expected - Leuthold Weeden”
It is that time again... reviewing how much purchasing power the current income stream has lost and realizing the next raise is still months away. CPI release... The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.5 percent in July on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising...

The 2nd Quarter GDP was released this morning and depending on political leanings, it was either magnificient or a bust. This from something that is revised on an annual basis and we just had that annual revision released as well. Oh well! In any case, the real GDP has finally nudged ahead of...

“I continue to think many of the factors holding down inflation are transitory - Janet Yellen (Feb - 2016)”
Here we are 5 1/2 years later and the script has flipped, so she was right then. But is it really temporary this time around? My unqualified thoughts... First I will begin with my personal yoy rate of inflation which is 3.3%. I'm not happy about that, but it is better than the cpi-u of 5.4%....

“I continue to believe that the American people have a love-hate relationship with inflation. They hate inflation but love everything that causes...”
It is looking more like this spate of inflation is transitory, imo. Probably not a popular notion, but the evidence is all over yesterday's CPI release. Let's not forget that the CPI fell in the opening months of the covid outbreak, so this month's "annual" is based where the CPI had cratered...

“Patience is not simply the ability to wait - it's how we behave while we're waiting. - Joyce Meyer ”
Ventured out amongst the masses today and realized that I should probably avoid the public as much as possible. I was simply going inside a drug store to pickup my wife’s bowel prep, which wouldn’t fit in the drive thru window. There were two windows, very clearly marked… one for vaccinations...

“I don't mind going back to daylight saving time. With inflation, the hour will be the only thing I've saved all year. - Victor Borge”
Another inflation report has come out and "gasp"... it is bigger than it has been for awhile. The report... The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.8 percent in April on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.6 percent in March, the U.S. Bureau of Labor...

The B.L.S. has released another month of data. How many guesses do you need to determine direction of prices? The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.6 percent in March on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.4 percent in February, the U.S. Bureau of Labor...
