SCIENCE Is a Bunch of Racist Misogyny, Claim Female Mad Scientists
First they came for basic biology, and I did not speak out…
STAFF WRITER OCTOBER 8, 2017
Now, professors at Seattle Pacific University are calling for science–that singularly human intellectual pursuit of the study of the physical and natural world through observation and experimentation–to be redefined as just a bunch of racism and sexism.
In a paper published in the October issue of Race and Physics Teaching, an academic journal that appears to exist, Professors Rachel Scherr and Amy Robertson claim that physics lessons are unfair to women because “white male privilege pervades the discipline of physics as well as the classrooms in which physics is taught and learned,” Campus Reform reports.
“Male socialized traits,” they wrote, like “independence, competition, and individual victories” gives male students an edge over their female peers in physics, adding that “objectivity and rationality themselves, the foundations of scientific ideology, are also male-socialized traits.”
Men the world over responded by saying they’ll take the compliment.
But the pair of pissy profs didn’t stop there. This whole time science has just been a tool of oppression used by white people, they claim.
“Historically, the questions that science has addressed have disproportionately advantaged White people, motivated by colonial expansion (to improve land and sea travel, mine ores, manufacture and farm for the benefit of Europeans living in Europe and in colonies),” Scherr and Robertson argue.
Glaringly, the paper omits any mention of the fact that people of Asian and Indian backgrounds vastly excel in STEM fields. That’s egg on your face, 19th century British colonialists. Your plan backfired.
The professors then say that because the sciences were built upon “male privilege,” it’s unsurprising that they continue to perpetuate an advantage for men. They claim that physics, in particular, is “laden with masculine [and, we would add, White] connotations on a symbolical level.”
Not satisfied merely claiming the way science is taught is oppressive, the duo descended further into the darkest recesses of the human spirit when they appeared to realize natural laws, like gravity, for example, are actually just agents of the patriarchy.
“For example, conceptualizing Nature as governed by laws can suggest that it is ruled by a lawmaker, who is often implicitly conceptualized as a male authority,” they claim.
To do away with the gender gap and remedy the situation, the professors are calling upon their white male peers to “disrupt privilege” by “recognizing their own privilege, coping with the discomfort of unfair advantage, and coming to see themselves as agents of change who can contribute to the disruption of systems of unfair advantage.”
They further call upon physics professors to redefine science in the name of social justice, stating that “if our aim is, in part, to disrupt White and/or male privilege within physics, we need to open up the space of what counts as physics.”
Forethought, reason, and the entire female cast of Hidden Figures could not be reached for comment.
Note to "Professors": You are supposed to be adults and educators but your behavior is that of a toddler. If you don't like that there aren't many women in the profession, then do something about it. Act like an adult and quit whining.
.
Good grief. What nonsense. Science per Oxford:
Science is the objective pursuit of formal, falsifiable, predictive explanations for observable phenomena. That is, science seeks to explain reality based on evidence.
While there are indeed political forces that exploit science to advance their positions, science itself simply accumulates an increasingly more accurate understanding of nature.
Yappanopolous left off a fairly key sentence
"Overall, the discipline of physics is not only dominated by men who identify as White, but is also “laden with masculine [and, we would add, White] connotations on a symbolical level ” 21 ; for example, conceptualizing Nature as governed by laws can suggest that it is ruled by a lawmaker, who is often implicitly conceptualized as a male authority. 2"
In other words, they are not claiming that Nature is not governed by laws, but rather they are arguing that the concept has been used , by some, to suggest a universal lawmaker implicitly seen (in our culture) as a male authority. I don't consider that, all in all, to be a wild conclusion on their part.
I agree that is in part what they are doing. I repeat my opening comments.
No surprise there given that he's both a racist and a misogynist.
Exactly right, and good to see you Skrekk... When are we going to do that Mariners game you promised me three years ago? LOL
Oh oh....my eidetic memory is failing me....I must be getting old.
Could be, that was several years ago...
It was never that reliable anyway. :(
Or, as Yogi Berra might have said:
He's a racist but he's a misogynist
But in all seriousness-- he is both. And IMO he's also a bit of a nut case.
Science is a fact-based search for the truth. Religion is someone trying to sell you snake oil. They are polar opposites.
Exactly right, and good to see you LL.. Glad you moved over here.
Progressives don't agree. They come up with conclusions and fake the data to support them.
So I can assume that you are a progressive?
I reject your insult. I am a scientist.
Ok, then as a scientist, you know voting yourself up means nothing... Yes?
Comment removed for CoC violation [ph]
Yep... and good to see ya... Or it means they know their argument is so weak that it's the only way they can bolster their position... I have to be up really early, so I leave this discussion to you...
I agree that meta comments like yours have no value. Is that good enough?

I accept your surrender.
Voted yourself up. Twice.
Voted yourself up.
Voted yourself up.
Voted yourself up.....AGAIN.
But apparently posts like this you feel are worthy of voting yourself up? Pretty sad!
Yes. Comment removed for CoC violation [ph]

Yep. Comment removed for CoC violation [ph]
My comments are wonderful. Of course I like them. It's sad you have nothing of substance to offer, but that's typical of antiscience types.
Lol. I can't vote myself up twice. I've tried. Comment removed for CoC violation [ph]
It harms the collective!
Paying taxes is the kryptonite of liberals. Taxes are for conservatives...
People are allowed to vote their own comments up. So can we put this to bed?
E.A I bet it is one of those " Finding out one honour and self value " great Idea/S
It be the same ones that scream if a Down Vote is available!
Who the fuck is all these "they's" ? They this they that, blah blah blah
Good comment-- I voted it up! (Even though it wasn't one of my own wonderful comments, I voted it up anyway).
But I also am a bit jealous of some people-- I always vote myself up, yet Mr Frost never acknowledges my voting myself up. Its unfair!!!
Why doesn't he mention it every time I go to the trouble to vote myself up??
Hopefully he will start being more scientific-- and keep better tabs on who votes themselves up and who doesn't.
And mentions it every time for every person.
(FWIW-- I just voted that comment up).
I voted that comment up.
(Voted up)
I vote that comment up (even though it had been removed for CoC violation so I didn't see what it was).
But the important thing is not only did I voted it up-- but I mentioned that I voted it up.
Just to be scientific-- lets all mention it each time we vote a comment up (let's limit it to this conversation only-- let's not continue this sheer stupoidityb on the rest of the site).
Then let's keep tab of who voted up what and how often.
Then we can take the square root of the second derivative and muliply by any number that comes to mind.!
Comment voted up!
Comment voted up!!!
Who else voted up that comment>?
Which people here voted up which comments?
Let's reveal all-- and then keep a scientific tally.
After the appropriate mathematical analysis, perhaps we may discover that there is a pattern here.
Then we might be able to publish it as a scientific paper (with a long fancy title and include a few fancy words-- maybe throw in a Latin phrase or two).
To impress people-- or at those who are easily impressed. (P.S: as soon as I post this comment I am going to vote it up!!! Hehehe
There-- I just voted my own comment up.
Yet again!
Dear god, Cerenkov. I've paid taxes all my life and are still paying them. What's more, I don't mind. It's the price I pay for roads, stop signs, a standing military, etc. I feel like it is worth every penny.
Liberals pay taxes, too.
Not if you have more than one account...just saying!
I wonder what HER opinion would be:
In case you cannot read it: "Marie Curie, (1867-1934)" - venerated at Chongqing University in China.
about what?
John, what does it take to realize that "what" is the article topic?
Your ridiculous sexist bullshit?
Buzz, I am probably the only person in this discussion that read the entire article that is the subject of the OP. I put a link to it in one of my other comments. The two women who wrote the article do not claim that SCIENCE is racist and misogynistic, although they do claim that scientists are.
There is a difference you know.
The seeded article which is by an alt-right pop culture writer, mis- states the content for political purposes.
"Buzz, I am probably the only person in this discussion that read the entire article.."
Delusions of grandeur?
Well, the top half of your sentence was correct. You are making some progress.
I think you have to give John credit for the fact that he hasn't already posted his mantra.
No, I just know the people on this site.
You're channeling him!
Comment removed for CoC violation [ph]
Two things. I posted a photo of a statue dedicated to a highly venerated and accomplished female xcientist, and I posted this comment:
...which happens to be a compliment to you.
And we know you.
Voted up!!!!!!
The modern Mirror was invented by Justus von Liebig in 1835. Try one !

Milo Yiannopoulos?
He is the source of the article?
Well...no wonder!!!
A racist and misogynistic bomb-thrower who endorses pedophilia. Milo is by far the best the alt-right has to offer.....he reminds me of the albino assassin from some movie.
Bet the movie was "The DaVinci Code", starring Tom Hanks.
"Countering racism and sexism in physics, as in society, will require action at national, institutional, and interpersonal levels."
I think these two ladies thought they were studying SJW courses instead of physics and are getting the two mixed up.
I thought I should come here and say something, as a female scientist. My field, geology, is very dominated by men, and that's just the way it is.
However, I see that there are plenty of people who are here only to poke fun of women, call them names, and throw slurs at women. I've practiced in my field for 40 years, and never seen this kind of talk directed toward women-- maybe the men I worked with were polite or something.
I have been well-respected in my field, by both men and women, and have worked very hard. No one in real life has ever expressed these sentiments to me, directly. Maybe I just got lucky, or maybe the men I worked with respected me.
It never mattered that I was female, as long as I got the job done. Yeah, there were plenty of opportunities I missed, because I was a female, etc., but no one EVER expressed themselves in the crude ways some of you have expressed yourselves on this article, and I worked with well drillers, some of the crudest men on the planet. To a man, they became like my family-- we ate together, sweated together, bandaged each other up when we were hurt, shivered together, protected each other, and were friends.
I can not imagine the type of person that would denigrate all women who happen to be scientists. That's utterly unbelievable!
This is a new high for you, Jonathan...which is to say in normal human terms rock bottom. First, using Milo as a source is about like using Carrot Top as the single expert on comedy. He's a very mentally disturbed and sexually confused (floridly gay misogynist for starters) rage baby. But, that doesn't mean I don't always enjoy seeing this from you lot (and you all do it eventually--what is that from, the Breitbart school of sleazy, smarmy, sloppy, gutter-snipe smear journalism?) because it always gives me the chance to rip the shit (and these articles are always choc-a-bloc full of that stuff) out of them.
First, there is no "academic journal" called "Race and Physics Teaching." There is, however, a journal put out by the American Association of Physics Teachers called The Physics Teacher which issued a "call for papers" on the subject of race and physics teaching back in Feb. 2016 and the first publication of selected papers began last month. Tellingly, Milo doesn't go to the actual paper ( that fit with his objective of attacking ideas he doesn't like on the basis of....he just doesn't like them, goddamn it! That's the only criterion he or any rightwing attack hamster needs or uses. If we had access to the actual paper we'd see all of his carefully excised bits of it don't really quite tell the truth. Oh, wait. We do have that access. Let's start with Milo's source's first lie (emphasis):
Now here's the full paragraph from the article where the above quote was distorted:
See what's not in the original? No? Let me spell it out: There's no fucking suggestion or reference of the idea of "fairness" not to mention the actual word, "fair." So, this is how the rightwing distorts things: an anodyne paragraph which contains nothing but the incontrovertible fact that physics teachers in this country at least are overwhelmingly white men and offers possible explanations for why that is. Let's go on. Here's Milo's next selection from his rightwing source:
In fact, that is not just Scherr's and Robertson's arguments as they cite 3 references for that historical FACT. Until our own revolution, that was largely the goal of mainly English colonists in this country ferchrissakes. If you people do not even recognize the absolute truth in that statement there's no hope of ever getting any fact into your heads.
Why are so many people in this..."discussion"... trying so hard to convince us that they are total a$$holes?
I don't know, I think it comes natural would be a good theory....
