Time to Give Thanks to White Males

While every other demographic group is coddled by the media, it is still PC to ridicule white males, partly because they are a benign majority who don’t complain much. This Thanksgiving seems an opportune time to give them thanks for forging a country that beckons the world’s tired, huddled masses, and to appreciate their overall magnanimity in sharing our abundance.

The loony left, forever futile in foisting the discredited socialist tenet of equal outcomes upon unequal contributors, purports that white privilege explains discrepancies in achievement. Actually, through their invention, brilliance, and industry, whites wrestled comfort and plenty from nature’s tight grasp. Guilt-ridden apologists, effete elites, and the race-hustling grievance industry may discredit Western Civilization and rewrite American history, but through our beneficence America’s poor are comfortable, compared to the most of the earth’s population. Our bottom 99 percent comes “surprisingly close” to being in the top 1 percent of household incomes worldwide.

Consider that in thirteen states welfare pays more than $15 (tax-free) an hour. Staggeringly, in a majority of states welfare payments exceed 2017-level minimum wages. And the purportedly privileged are disproportionally paying the taxes -- over 45% of households paid no income tax in 2015. The other 55% of households deserve our thanks for footing the bills. Instead of disparaging white males, we should appreciate their largesse; for example, in formulating the Earned Income Tax Credit. The EITC has been described as “the most effective federal antipoverty program for working age households,” by the Tax Policy Center.

Assuredly, we are trying to expand the workforce and broaden the tax base. Underpinned by affirmative action and adherence to disparate impact to rectify neutral policies that occasionally result in unintentional discrimination, we often choose minority candidates even if they are only “qualified for training.” Meanwhile, white males who are already qualified succumb to diversity quotas. Where’s the gratitude for their sacrifice?

Clearly, white males are mostly – mostly -- a bighearted bunch who deserve our thanks for reaching out to minorities in a way few other countries bother. Even President Trump wants the Department of Energy to commit a formidable $200 million every year to expand racial and gender diversity in computer science curricula.

Of course, the ruling class, such as it exists, will protect its self-interest, and no one likes it when underperforming companies dish out huge payments to failed CEOs, or provide golden parachutes to executives before going belly-up. But that’s more the exception than the rule, and no justification to manufacture mayhem while Occupying Wall Street. The vast majority of Americans like to roll up their sleeves and get to work, as substantiated in the report “All Work, No Pay: The Impact of Forfeited Time Off” (pdf) by Oxford Economics. A survey conducted by Harris Interactive for a careers website presents even starker figures: U.S. workers only use 51% of their eligible paid vacation and paid time off.

Far from privileged, then, America’s silent majority are work martyrs. The American Dream has to be earned, even by white males, and one would be an ingrate to begrudge them -- or anyone -- the fruits of their labor. Opportunities exist for all who take personal responsibility instead of interminable government handouts which inevitably atrophy their skills and undermine self-esteem. The main encumbrance to success is laziness and immersion in entitlement, not outmoded notions of privilege from a bygone era. In every facet of our society, including housing, education, employment, and voting rights, equal opportunity has been inexorably expanded. Indeed, minorities exercised their ultimate civic power by voting at higher rates than whites in several recent elections. Though African-American voting rates dropped in 2016 when Obama wasn’t on the ballot, voting among other minority groups was lively.

While we’re being gracious this Thanksgiving, let’s also express gratitude to our law enforcement community for what is generally a thankless job (for our amazing veterans we are eternally indebted). According to Peter Kirsanow (himself a minority) of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, African-Americans are killed more frequently by police officers, but far, far less than the data would predict given they are much, much more likely to commit crimes. The narrative -- probably accurate 30 years ago -- that African-Americans are still disproportionately targeted by cops is now demonstrably false. Kirsanow’s assertions are well founded in Department of Justice data. And there’s more evidence that black cops are more likely to shoot black suspects than white cops.

All in all, you see, America is a salutary environment to be a minority. Maybe there are a few -- though rapidly dwindling -- remnants of privilege, but it pales compared to the classism or tribalism in many of our ancestral homelands. Even as many nations sitting on vast natural resources contrive to flounder under endemic corruption, a generous America gives mountains of aid at home and abroad. One can argue it took too long, but rather than retroactively impose today’s sensibilities on yesteryear, rather than dwell on historical misjudgments for a crutch, we should respect America’s ultimate altruism.

This Thanksgiving, civility compels us to give thanks that American white males, admittedly spurred on by once-relevant Civil Rights groups, nevertheless helped lead us to the broad, sunlit uplands of equal opportunity. The bitter left, engulfed in misappropriated white guilt for not bucking the prevailing standards of the time, and the malicious media may mock us, but thanks to our preponderance of compassion America remains the last great hope of earth. Period.

Happy Thanksgiving, pilgrims.

Why should I change since I'm not the one who did any of these things? 30 years ago Wilbert stole my Kenwood car stereo, I don't blame all black people, I don't blame his crack Dealer, I don't blame his Mother, I don't blame his brother Spencer, I don't blame his kids (who weren't even born then), I blame Wilbert and Wilbert alone for the crimes he alone committed. Stop blaming today's White People for things that happened long ago. The bad things that happened in the past where committed by people who are dead now, their victims are also dead and those things can never be made right in this world ( I think God has already Judged the Bad and rewarded the Good). There is no Justice that can be done in the present because I don't owe black folks or native americans anything and they are not owed anything since they aren't the same individuals who were victimized.

Not at all. It doesn't matter what skin color you have, "oppressing" anyone based on their race, gender, gender identity, sexual preference, faith or lack thereof is wrong. You don't have to be white to be an "oppressor" and most white Americans are not. Nearly all white Americans do enjoy some of the benefits of our ancestors oppression of native Americans, blacks and other minorities, but most try to respect other cultures and minorities. There was a time when affirmative action was white and we haven't moved all that far past it yet and the resurgence of white supremacists is disheartening to watch.

Liberals know that not only could their male members wipe the floor with the weak little conservatives crying for their safe spaces where they can discriminate freely but their female members wouldn't have any problem kicking those weak conservative a$$es either. Just listen to all the crying and complaining about "antifa" from the white supremacists who run home to their mommas crying about their bloodied noses they received after waving their swastikas and confederate flags. What excuses me from being part of your misguided train wreck is I never killed a Native American and I never held a slave.  Both happened LOOOOONG before I was born and I don't play your childish little games.  I acknowledge what happened as a piece of American history and the country has moved on from that.

Now just because you feel the need to play the victim card is your problem.  It doesn't mean that I have to agree with you and it surely doesn't mean that I will play your guilt trip games.  Like I said, never killed a Native American, never held a slave.  Despite your best efforts, my conscience is clear and guilt free.

In America, the vast majority of slaveholders and Native American killers were indeed white.
So you do admit that the idea that whites were the only people how held slaves is misguided.

Notice the words " vast majority". Do you understand the concept?

This entire post is about praising white males who HISTORICALLY

"give them thanks for forging a country that beckons the world’s tired, huddled masses, and to appreciate their overall magnanimity in sharing our abundance."

Keeping history in perspective , thanks are due to all races, genders and ethnicities who shared in creating America, the myths that are so dear to you claim it was only white males, so no, you are not excused. While you are not personally responsible for all the bad parts of our history, you are not personally responsible for all the good either. If you imagine that you have never benefitted from white privilege, it's you who are misguided.

we are capable of rising above such behavior, but first we have to recognize and accept our own depravities and not justify them...

And we should attempt to be humble while doing it considering our own roots. "Rising above" in acts of kindness and learning from our own history is great, claiming to "be above" others because of it is shameful.

Jeremy, your argument is ridiculous, a circumstance that seems to befall a number of your arguments.

“It is a very sad aspect of African-American history that slavery sometimes could be a colorblind affair,” writes Henry Louis Gates Jr. on the Root , in a fascinating piece about the history of black slaveholders in the United States. Some black slaveholders bought family members, though this humanitarian arrangement doesn’t account for all of the history of black slaveholding, as Gates points out.

Bottom line: Even if Anthony Johnson was the first person in the North American colonies to hold a slave— even if many black people across the years held slaves—that doesn’t erase the fact that it was the racially based system of hereditary slavery that harmed the vast majority of black people living within it. The fact that some members of an oppressed class participate in oppression doesn’t excuse that oppression."

Had blacks held whites or other non blacks as slaves in some substantial amount, you might have had a minor point to make. But the fact is that slavery in the US was a RACE BASED institution where the Africans were the victims.

I'm a white male, I have no "white guilt" about being white. But it turns my stomach to see all these fascist white nationalists, Nazis, KKK members and confederate flag wavers. There is no "war on whites". Being inclusive isn't in any way destroying "white identity". “All in all, you see, America is a salutary environment to be a minority.

Period.”

Women of today have it much better than their counterparts of years past.  But, yet, some are still dissatisfied with their lives.   They have to have someone to blame, so, fellas, you are the target.

It isn't only white men....it is all men.

They should be careful of what they wish for.  It might just come back to bite them in their asses. When they are treated by men the way they are beginning to  treat men it will not be a happening.   I hope I am still around to see it!

Which is as it should be, men and women have a role, that role depends strongly on what they want in their lives. Society only works this way.

It will never work when others try to demand others be the way they want them to be.....

I'm sorry if you misunderstood me. The private life I was speaking of was the harassers, not yours. I did not say that all men or women act in the same way, but men who harass women do see them only as sex objects, which is why they act like they do. That is why they will never give women respect, regardless if they've earned it or not. That must change.  If it takes publicity to make that change, then have at it.

Are women treated better today than their female ancestors were? Yes, but does that mean they should stop pushing for equality? Does it mean women should settle for 3/4 because it's better than the half they used to get? You said "Is respect and dignity only achieved by degrading someone else?". I merely pointed out that treating women as equals isn't degrading, it's empowering.

Now, I will agree, that "presumption of innocence" should prevail … on that we can agree … but the only reason the court of public opinion can indict Franken and some others, is because they admitted to guilt and apologized.

You can't have it both ways … DENIAL DOES NOT EQUAL INNOCENCE … what's wrong is wrong regardless of partisanship …

“Far from privileged, then, America’s silent majority are work martyrs. Though African-American voting rates dropped in 2016 when Obama wasn’t on the ballot, voting among other minority groups was lively.”

I am very thankful for the white men in my life. Those who bash them are just jealous, as they know they will never measure up to the finest people in the world

It's an openly racist comment, obviously. It's sad for Newstalkers that there are people here like you who make excuses for it.

The quality of a human being should be the most important thing about anyone, but where some have only had experiences with black or white men or women, that is all they can base their statements on.  The real racists see racism everywhere they look.  It is automatically assumed it is racist to make a statement such as "I am grateful to all the white men in my life" when the only people that person has had in her life has been white men and as far as she is concerned no one can measure up to them.

The discussion is about white men, isn't it?  With the racists trying to make it wrong to qualify the statement, it just shows how racist they really are.

I'm not proud to be white.  Heck, what did I do to be proud?  I had no say-so in the matter at all.  I wouldn't be proud to be black, Indian or any other race.  I'm only proud when it was through my efforts to accomplish something difficult to do or made something better and then I find it hard to be proud.  I find the word proud to egotistical for me.  I find the word thankful to be much more appealing.  I'm thankful I have children who don't get into trouble, have good work ethics and make good grades in school.  I like that much better.

That's what I'm wondering.  Apparently acknowledging white men is somehow racist.  I think he's using the below as a reference:

You've called Black conservatives Uncle Toms on this forum, how is that not racist?

Oh, no, no, no.  That's not fair.  We';re talking about this statement about being proud of the white men in her life and how no one else could match their attributes, from a personal experience point of view, of course.  It must be a racist statement.  How could you miss that?

Do you find that racist?  It kind of gives you a little different perspective when you see it written like that, doesn't it?  If a black girl who had only been involved with black men in her life said that, would she be racist to you?  I don't expect you to stop seeing racism in every corner, but I know some others will be able to see my point.

Because Six, why qualify at all? Does race define the man, or his deeds. Honestly, had I read that the other way around, I would have felt the same way. So, saying your happy for the good men in your life is fine. Giving thanks to them is fine. But your race, says nothing about the quality of the and and is nothing more than an accident of your genes.

I disagree.  The term 'Uncle Tom' is actually the opposite of racism.  It is an insult to a black person who chooses to remain subservient to, and accepts that they are inherently inferior to, the white man.  It insults the acceptance of racism.

Being a conservative does not necessarily make a black an 'Uncle Tom.'

The logical follow up to an article like this one would be something like ...

" The Inherent kindness of heterosexual Filippino Dwarfs."

In other words, this discussion is a way to promote the fallacy of racial superiority/inferiority which in and of itself is inherently racist.

Among black Americans, 31% think most blacks are racist, while 24% consider most whites racist and 15% view most Hispanics that way.

I know it is difficult to understand how someone could make that statement and it not be racist if racism was what that person was accustomed to looking for.  It would be the context in which the statement was made.  In this case I really don't know, but if someone was criticizing ones white husband and calling him racist, in a lot of cases, simply because he is white, it would be appropriate to specify "So what, I am thankful for my white husband and you're just jealous of him".  And it wouldn't make any difference whether you are white or any other color, which is exactly what that statement did.

It could be an reaction to the constant accusation from Liberals and those blacks who have fallen prey to them for never letting up on things like it's in our genes to be racist.  It could be someone just playing with you or anyone else who has driven this idea that whites are all racist, except of course, the Liberal whites.

When you hear someone say "Kill the White babies", now then that is racist or "Kill the black babies", now that is racist.  Or when the idea is being taught in our colleges and groups are gathering basically pushing the idea that even those who don't do these things who are white are Nazis, now then that is racist, but you must understand it is not as much racist as it is promoting division purposefully.

So it's the fact that they are saying that their opinion that white men have the finest people in the world that you find racist?  Either way, it's not racist to say it.  You just need to get over yourself and accept that others have differing points of view and don't have to conform to what YOU want them to think.

It is most definitely not.

In her opinion, she bases her views on the white men in her life.  And, says to the "others" who find fault with white men ....white men are the greatest.  In her life they are the greatest.  In my life they are, as well, since there are no other colors in my life.

A black woman would say the same thing if black men were put down.  She would defend those in her life!

Apologies are made for this and that.  A person is quoted in the news on their opinion.....some take exception....then, that same person makes an apology.  There will be people who always take exception to one thing or the other.  Either stand by your comment or don't make it.  Can't please everyone and I am not about to start now.

The white men in her life are awesome, wonderful and the best!

Honestly, what is the outcome of this discussion supposed to be?

I believe some are wanting sympathy for themselves by presenting themselves as victims.

It's like being at a kids birthday party where the birthday boy is getting everything he wants and is the center of attention and is driving his new motorized toy truck around the yard. However his mother invited one of the kids from his class who is disabled and another who is a minority that the birthday boy has bullied for years. His mother then asks her son to let the disabled classmate and the minority classmate have some time driving his new motorized truck around, and she even made the disable boy who also has allergies his own cake with no peanut butter or gluten in it along with getting them special gift bags to take home with them. Birthday boy is furious! He lashes out "Why do they get anything? I didn't invite them? This is my birthday party! I want them to leave!". He doesn't realize what a selfish little brat he's being, he's actually looking for sympathy because he can't imagine why any of the attention is put anywhere else other than himself. He has no shame, he has no empathy, he doesn't give a crap about how hard life is for those other kids, being excluded, not being able to participate in so many things every day. All he can think about is himself, it's "Me! Me! Me!" all the time in his little brain.

White males have enjoyed being in the limelight for centuries, we have patted ourselves on the back and basked in the praise of others. But now that a few of us show empathy and actually start going out of our way to include minorities and the least represented among us, some white males have started shouting "Why do they get anything? Why aren't we still the center of attention? Why aren't you thanking us more? Why all this concern for minorities when I haven't had my third piece of cake yet? Waaaah!".
