FBI's Andrew McCabe fired, effective immediately, before he could retire

FBI's Andrew McCabe fired, effective immediately, before he could retire

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has been fired, effective immediately the Department of Justice said late Friday night. The decision comes as FBI officials   recommended his firing , as they wait for a Department of Justice Inspector General report critical of him to be released.

In a statement, the Department of Justice said "the OIG and FBI OPR reports concluded that Mr. McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor − including under oath − on multiple occasions."

The decision, not unexpected, came two days before McCabe was set to retire Sunday. The 49-year-old is likely to keep at least some of his pension.

The report by the Department of Justice Inspector General, while not yet finished, found evidence that McCabe had questionable contact with a reporter and was not fully forthcoming when asked about it about an investigation concerning the Clinton Foundation. Those familiar with McCabe's side of the story say he was authorized to talk to reporters.

The decision came after Associate Deputy Attorney General Scott Schools   met with McCabe Thursday , a part of an effort to shift the McCabe decision to "career officials" within the DOJ, according to a source familiar with the process. The optics, the source says, are not good for Attorney General Sessions to fire a career civil servant who is frequently criticized by the president. Schools is among the top career officials at the DOJ currently, and the department wanted to pin the outcome of the situation on long-established institutional norms, not politics.

President Trump has blasted McCabe in the past, particularly over his wife's acceptance of campaign cash from an ally of Hillary Clinton's, before McCabe began FBI's investigation of Clinton's email server. He also said McCabe was "racing the clock to retire with full benefits."

"Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the decision to oust McCabe after the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility recommended he be fired for his  alleged lack of candor  during an internal review of how the FBI and Justice Department handled an investigation into the Clinton Foundation."

More to come when the IG delivers his report

This wouldnt stink so much if Trump had not belittled the man so many times in public and associated him with Trump's ridiculous defenses of his administration via conspiracy theories.

So McCabe loses his pension.  CNN will probably hire him as a commentator.

Leakers and conspirators?  I can recognize that you are delighted by this event, but has it never occurred to you that every time Trump has blamed his misery on 'leakers', he was actually confirming that what was being released to law enforcement or the media...was in fact the truth?  Frankly, it was rather stupid of him not to have realized that he has been the biggest leaker in his entire administration.  Jesus!  Even I could see it, and I'm the biggest idiot this side of the Mason-Dixon line.

What he did to McCabe was low-rent and Jerry Springer-worthy.  Making Sessions do his dirty work makes it worse.  It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Trump told Sessions to fire McCabe or his job would be in jeopardy.   It also wouldn't surprise me if he fires Sessions anyway, because that's the kind of man he is.

Look, Trump needs to go before he tweets us into WW3.  He's already made this country a laughing stock to every civilized nation on the planet.  Hells bells, even our allies are taking a step back.  This is no time for partisan politics, so I don't care if the next ten Presidents are Republicans.  We need to do something about Trump, and we need to do it quickly.

You must not get your news from a variety of sources.   Smart money says he's got the obstruction,  probably the collusion or close to it, and working through the money laundering.   And its hard to have a conversation without bringing upTrump about the firing of McCabe when the reason he was fired SO VINDICTIVELY is because Trump wanted it because he wasn't 'loyal'.  This came from Trump, he is already lying about it.  THAT is not off topic.  Highly relevant, actually, and you may find this is another brick in the wall.

I think its hilarious some of you think 15 months is long enough or too long, after the years of Benghazi, which doesn't even come close to the importance of Mueller's investigation.  And you must be young if your don't remember how long republicans investigated White Water, and where it let, how long and how many other people got caught up.  Again I ask, why the different standards?

Totally agree. However, the majority of the people of America are strong people, having been through a great many tragedies, the Civil War, Great Depression, and wars around the world, and we have always managed to survive and move forward in a positive manner.

While we are faced now with this tragedy of a President and his administration, the American people will survive it and once again prove that it is the PEOPLE of America that make our country great, not who temporarily occupies the Oval office.

Neither party is fit to serve as President of this country, as they no longer understand that fact.

It is off topic - Trump didn't have a hand in this. The office of Professional Responsibility at the FBI recommended that Sessions fire McCabe. Please read the article. BTW Sessions listened to the career professionals when he recused himself and he listened to them again in this case. It is very rare that the OPR makes such a recommendation. Yup, it is funny and the strangest part of all is the logic of these partisan officials. McCabe recused himself from state corruption cases in Virginia as a result of his wife’s candidacy, yet couldn't resist presiding over the Clinton investigation, something he clearly should have recused himself from. Then to go out and have FBI agents talk with the media about the Clinton Foundation investigation as well as using the Steele Dossier to get a FISA warrant were serious transgressions. How much more we will find out about from the IG report may be beyond belief.

Just like Fast and Furious was a bust, the IRS scandal was a bust, and 'Benghazi' was a bust.

Both the Fast & Furious scandal and the IRS scandal are acknowledged by just about everyone as the Obama administration getting away with misconduct. The footnote of history will be that Obama's Justice Department did the investigating, something the media would strongly object to if the Trump administration ever did the same thing.

Let me give you an example of how history records one of these so-called investigations:

Responding to a lawsuit filed by  Judicial Watch , Thomas Kane, Deputy Assistant Chief Counsel for the IRS, wrote in a sworn declaration that Lerner's Blackberry was "removed or wiped clean of any sensitive or proprietary information and removed as scrap for disposal in June 2012." [174]  In a  USA Today  opinion column, James S. Robbins wrote, "For a scandal that is frequently derided as 'fake,' it is amazing how often real evidence disappears. The disappearing act is so frequent, it is reasonable to wonder whether it is really a systematic attempt to destroy evidence of abuse of power." [175]  An IRS  IT  official told the  National Review  that any personal folders containing Lerner's emails were unlikely to have been on the Blackberry as, if they had been, then IT employees "wouldn’t have been jumping through all the hoops to recover data from [Lerner's crashed hard] drive" in June 2011. [176]

It is only a "bust" as you call it because a poor excuse for a human being like Eric Holder prevented any evidence from seeing the light of day

You (not personal you)  can pull anything out of your ass, but if you commit a crime you get charged.  Until then, its just shit.   And if you don't like lying perjurers, be consistent and speak to the liars and perjurers from Trump on down.  Trump is the biggest liar and I can't wait til hes under oath.  We will see how consistent your standards of conduct are.

I don't find that to be true. Hillary Clinton didn't get charged - for any of her crimes, Lois Lerner never got charged and thus far Andrew McCabe, who did lie and did leak has not been charged.

Trump is the biggest liar and I can't wait til hes under oath.  We will see how consistent your standards of conduct are.

Um-hum, let's see if that day ever arrives, hopefully the Mueller probe will eventually get somewhere.

Sessions said late Friday in a statement:

“After an extensive and fair investigation and according to Department of Justice procedure, the Department’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) provided its report on allegations of misconduct by Andrew McCabe to the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).

“The FBI’s OPR then reviewed the report and underlying documents and issued a disciplinary proposal recommending the dismissal of Mr. McCabe. Both the OIG and FBI OPR reports concluded that Mr. McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor ― including under oath ― on multiple occasions.

The FBI expects every employee to adhere to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability. As the OPR proposal stated, “all FBI employees know that lacking candor under oath results in dismissal and that our integrity is our brand.”

Pursuant to Department Order 1202, and based on the report of the Inspector General, the findings of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility, and the recommendation of the Department’s senior career official, I have terminated the employment of Andrew McCabe effective immediately.

Sessions’ decision to fire McCabe came as Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz concluded a bureau oversight investigation, with a report expected to be critical of McCabe’s handling of the Clinton email probe, his handling of the bureau during the early months of the Russia investigation, and his ties to the Democratic Party.

Horowitz determined that McCabe hadn't been forthcoming in regard to the handling of the FBI’s probe into Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state in the Obama administration.

The inspector general’s finding sparked an FBI disciplinary process that recommended McCabe’s firing.

Pretty shitty thing to do. I don't care if you are left, right, center or a retarded trump supporter.... He did his time in public service and no one, left, right, or retarded trump supporter does 20+ years of public service for financial gain....they do it because they want to serve the public. Just like any vet. McCabe, like him or hate him, DID do public service for over 20 years. He earned his retirement. His firing is nothing more than party politics and yet another effort by the trump admin to silence the Mueller investigation. No more, no less. And yes, I would protest if this were done to say Newt Gingrich, or Trey Gowdy.... Again, like him or hate him, he earned his retirement. Can anyone, left or right say they would be fine with it if THEY were denied THEIR retirement after 20+ years of service? No. As usual, this falls along party lines. Sad. In the end, I think Mueller will have his way with trump. While McCabe will pay a heavy price for trumps crimes, in the end, trump himself will pay dearly. How you say? What makes me think that you ask? Simple. Mueller subpoena records from the Trump Organization. He didn't ask for them, he didn't request them.... In other words, he DEMANDED them....NOW. Mueller has been methodically been investigating for months...we are close to the season ending episode and there are not many players left in the game. Trump has fired, (or people have quit), just about everyone he originally hired....most are gone now. Even his most trusted people...like Hope Hicks...are gone. She resigned the day after Muller's team questioned her... That should tell you all you need to know. Mueller has the goods on trump, and everyone knows it...except Donny. When Donny goes down...who will he blame? Everyone but himself. You see....Trump has never had to answer to anyone...ever...he has always been the one in charge, so he literally thinks he can just blame someone else... He is now the POTUS...there is no one left to blame and people see through his BS.

NO, he deserves to forfeit his gold platted $1.8 million retirement at age 50! Just like the FBI recommended. He violated the most basic policies of the agency, one of the two bright lines set down by director Louis Freeh way back when - all members of the FBI must tell the truth. McCabe allowed his personal politics to enter into investigations he was in charge of. He lied to cover up his own misconduct and brought dishonor to the FBI. He should have been prosecuted as Mike Flynn was or any low ranking member of the FBI would have been. BTW, after the IG report is released he just might get prosecuted and yes I want an example made of McCabe.

Why can you not read the article and note that it specifically STATES that the FBI is strongly recommending MCabe's dismissal - not Trump.

The inspector general’s finding sparked an FBI disciplinary process that recommended McCabe’s firing .

Now - try to answer the tread again with the rest of the information.

This is another disturbing action in a trend of disturbing actions under this Administration.

I find it rather discouraging that when the situation involves guns and murder there are so many that accept the narrative of "it's too soon to talk about" but with a situation in which all the fact are not all known those same individuals put on their MAGA hat and applaud destroying someone's pension.

What is also ironic is that those who are avid supporters of President Trump fail to see the connection of employers that mistreat their employees and get rid of them right before they are due their pension.  This is old school employer discrimination and bullying tactics.

I wish some people could see the big picture here.  The very rights and liberties some thought they would get from this Presidency are the very rights and liberties that we ALL are in danger of losing.  This unchecked targeting of those who don't align themselves with this Administration is the chipping away of our freedoms.

Sadly, I'm sure my comments will be attacked and viewed as partisan.

If you read the article, the first paragraph tells us where the decision to fire him come from.  Further down the article you will see that the recommendations come from FBI officials.  Now, as far as it being just before he retired is really irrelevant.  Especially when you look at why he was fired.  Personally I'm glad he was fired and won't get the pension.  Saves the taxpayers money.

I am going to wait for the IG report before I comment on why he was fired. That said the way he was fired raises some questions. The recommendation being made one day, then he and his lawyer only getting one brief meeting to plead his case with Sessions instead of a Review Board like I have heard of every other Civil Servant always getting. Plus the huge amount of pressure from Trump via tweets and comments from Sarah Sanders, which politicized the whole thing enough to blur the already blurry lines between the White House and the Justice Department that Trump had been destroying since he had taken office. It made the whole firing seem like it was ordered by Trump and feel more then a little vindictive and slimy.

Also firing him after 20 years and leaving him with no benefits is something that a great number of working men and women across the country can relate to. It has happen to 100's of thousands of them as plants have shut down when the company has gone out of business, downsized or moved overseas. The optics and very obvious and extreme meanspritiedness of it, which most people know came from Trump even if Sessions pulled the trigger, no matter how much some Trump supporters say otherwise,  doesn't play well in the rust belt or anywhere else that there have been plant closing.
