Yes, MAGA Hats Symbolize Something. But Not Hate.
We do believe that #MAGA and the MAGA hats represent something. Wearing the MAGA hat is not a neutral act. But the left’s “Resist” movement once again is completely missing the point. It’s not a symbol of racism. It’s actually the right’s symbol of resistance to leftist intolerance.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

By now much of America has seen the images of teenage boys in “Make America Great Again” hats milling near a chanting Native American elder.

Initially, the boys were condemned by the left and the right. More video of the incident , however, revealed the boys were not the instigators .

After that hasty condemnation, some high-profile figures actually had the grace to apologize for their rush to judgment about the boys from Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky and their encounter Friday with Nathan Phillips, 64, on the National Mall.

When actress Jamie Lee Curtis issued an olive branch, hoping for something as noncontroversial as finding “common ground,” some of her left-leaning followers went nuts.

Journalist and author Victoria Brownworth called Curtis’ apology “terribly disappointing.”

“DID YOU MISS THE MAGA HATS?” Brownworth asked.

When it became clear that the white, Trump-supporting teenagers could not be blamed for the incident on the Mall, the left tried to heap some level of responsibility on the boys for wearing those MAGA hats.

Throughout the Twitterverse, otherwise intelligent adults are pointing to the hats as confirmation that the boys 1) were asking for trouble and 2) are racists.

A perfect example of the left’s missing the mark is actress and activist Alyssa Milano, who tweeted: “The red MAGA hat is the new white hood.”

When we counsel clients on effective communication, we offer a few key tips on our “Never Do This List.” On the top of the list is “Never compare anyone to the Ku Klux Klan.” Unless, of course, they are in fact the Ku Klux Klan.

Milano and many others are making the “basket of deplorables” error.

The people who support President Donald Trump and the #MAGA movement largely support an agenda that puts America first. They are people who champion free and fair markets, religious liberty, and tax cuts.

This is not double talk or dog-whistling for anything other than free and fair markets, religious liberty, and tax cuts.

In October, we had the opportunity to meet with and interview black American college students who were in Washington for a Turning Point USA conference. It was refreshing to see young black students celebrating conservative principles.

The one interview that stands out is with a young woman from Denver. When we asked her, “What does it mean to be bold?” she replied without hesitation: “To be bold to me is to wear this hat.” And she pointed to her bright red MAGA hat.

She continued: “To be conservative and to express my views. I mean, that is one of the boldest things that any of us could possibly do, especially in this particular time.”

That young African-American woman, and the young teens from Kentucky, understand that MAGA hats make a statement.

The left missed the statement in 2016. And to the peril of their hopes for 2020, they are missing it once again.

While the above-displayed image does show a “Make America Great Again” cap that was manufactured in China, the pictured hat is not an official item sold by Donald Trump’s campaign.

Becoming a minority will be no different for me, will it be for you?

Depending on how long we love, quite possibly. So far people like myself , white males have held most of the power within our government. I see that already changing with the number of women being elected, I'd say the balance of power has already begun and yes the shift will affect the country in ways I'm sure I couldn't even think of if I tried.

Considering I do live in this country I have little doubt some of those changes may affect my world as well.

PS: My fiscal conservative side already sees trouble ahead.

Are you concerned that minorities will change the Constitution?

Personally I'm not too concerned about much of anything, I've pretty much lived my life and dont even have children to worry about their future.

But I do see conservatism fading, especially right now financial conservatism. That is troubling somewhat to me because I do need this house of cards to last just a little longer.

Everyone should watch Phillip's CNN interview.

Defender of the Black Israelite, upset the students were respecting the "truth" they were shouting.

And he also admits they went over to the students with the intent to "reclaim our space."  So much for the peacemaking lie.

It's a miracle the 2 hour unedited videotape was published by the black isrealities. (who of course took it down when they realized it was being used to exonerate the kids)  Imagine what would have happened to these kids if the only evidence of the encounter was the little cut chosen by the liar Phillips.

I seeded an article about MAGA hats yesterday, so my position is known here. These hats represent Donald Trump and a sort of adoration and subservience to Donald Trump at that.

It's not really a surprise that conservative youth from Kentucky would wear that trash on their heads on a trip to Washington DC, but as a Catholic who went to an all boys catholic high school  ( a while ago, lol)  it is damn disappointing.

It is true that if the kid at the center of the controversy didnt have a MAGA hat on the whole thing probably would have been looked at differently, but he did.

The Republicans and "conservatives" in this country have been reduced to constantly whining about political correctness, "snowflakes"  and the media. Now we have a member here making numerous comments about the evils of "virtue signaling", as if this demands to be the next big thing in the national dialogue.

Let's take most of this hand wringing over this Lincoln Memorial incident and apply it to a consideration of American Indian issues, which usually get ignored in favor of more or less trivial griping by conservative media about how unfairly treated white people are.

Phillips, the serial liar, is now defending the Black Isrealites and attacking the kids for not listening to them.

The progressive left has lost it's collective mind attacking kids who stood up for homosexual rights while either excusing or ignoring every lie, misrepresentation and bigoted statement made by Phillips .

I have said that I don't think Nathan Phillips comments after the incident have done his cause any favors. At best he is confusing the issue with some seemingly inaccurate statements.

Donald Trump took to twitter to defend the honor of the Covington boys who wore his headgear.

But he did not take to twitter to condemn the racist statements of Steve King.  Why is that?

After seeing an internet mob and the supposed objective media try and destroy the lives of innocent kids, it's good to know political correctness isn't something you feel the need to worry about.

It's amazes me John. You are honest enough to see what happened, yet you turn it around and blow it off likes it's nothing. And then tomorrow you'll be outraged that some dude in Idaho said something offensive on Facebook to his 12 followers.

Donald Trump took to twitter to defend the honor of the Covington boys who wore his headgea

Democratic Leaders have attacked the kids and none, to my knowledge have defended them. Why is that?

But he did not take to twitter to condemn the racist statements of Steve King.  Why is that?

Steve King disgraced himself and is being punished for it. The MSM, Democratic members of Congress, and half the country  are threatening and trying to destroy innocent kids because a liar invented a story. Which do you think is more important?

sean think of something for a second ,  and imagine if you will the number of burst forehead veins when it dawns on some , that these "kids" from what could be said is a bible belt religious school , booed and denounced homophobic statements, painting pretty much what the rabid left has tried to paint anyone who even considers "wearing " such a hat in public ( dog whistle call to arms if seen) as a lie in general, and imagine what will be thought when it is realized , these "kids" will be voting in the next presidential election , and most likely wont be forgetting their experience at the hands of those that would attempt to politically use them against their wishes.

IMHO I think any attacks on someone wearing a MAGA hat from now on , simply turn it bill backwards and turn your back on the one getting aggravated , essentially telling them your free to say what you want , but I don't have to listen to you , and I am still here.

Because Trump has a dead yellow animal on top of his head he decides to wear a cap every time , or usually, when he is outdoors for more than a couple minutes. Other wise he would look like this
donald-trump-wild-hair.jpg
So Trump wears a cap all the time. It is virtually always the MAGA hat. Not surprising since he sells them on his web site, and who is better advertising than the man himself.
The MAGA is completely associated with Donald Trump. He is the sole reason it exists and the sole reason anyone wears it.
Because he is the worst president in American history and a total disgrace to America, of course those who choose to align themselves with Trump through wearing the hat are going to often be put in the same boat as trump himself.  You dont want to be ridiculed? Dont wear the damn hat and thereby associate yourself with that idiot.

Interesting article that drives home how lucky these kids were the unedited two hour tape of the protest exists:

A classic leftist/occupy activist tactic, I was warned, was to confront a target and immediately start screaming that the target was being aggressive even though that was not true.

Unsuspecting people in the vicinity would not start recording the incident until there was this commotion. The videographers accompanying the provocateur also would edit the video to start when the provocateur started screaming. The target, not knowing what was about to happen, would not be prepared for it, and might even take the bait, such as in pushing the person away physically.

Regardless of what the target did or didn’t do, you would have video of the innocent target being portrayed as the aggressor, and the provocateur portrayed as the victim...

That same tactic was used against pro-Israel students at Cornell later in 2014 by the same Ithaca activist and other SJP students, as I documented in Cornell Pro-Israel students taunted: “F**k You Zionist scums”.

Look how the provocateur got inches from a pro-Israel student’s face, and started screaming “don’t touch me, don’t touch me” even though she was the aggressor and had not been touched. She then taunted the target to hit her, “slap me, do it, do it.” She also made a spitting sound (not clear if she actually spit) in the target’s face. The targeted student had the composure not to take the bait...

The activist approached the students, who were waiting for a bus, the students did not approach the activist. The activist, accompanied by his own videographers, kept walking into the crowd of students until he ended up in front of that now-famous student. Why bring videographers with you unless you are expecting something to happen?

Yet the still photos and tightly clipped videos that spread like wildfire made it seem as if the students had approached and confronted the activist. That was the narrative spun by the activist to the media, which ran with it as if this was a 1960 lunch counter confrontation.

he student had the composure to do nothing but stand there. He didn’t take the bait, and that was the right decision. Of course, that student now is being accused of showing white privilege by not reacting.

Only because there was more complete video did the media narrative of the student as the aggressor change.

There is nothing new under the sun when it comes to leftist activist tactics. Getting in someone’s face and then playing victim for the cameras is one of the oldest tricks in the book.

Chris Cuomo did an editorial about this thing on his show tonight. If it comes out in transcript tomorrow like they usually do from CNN maybe I will seed it.

Cuomo says he puts no blame on the kids. He does ask why the chaperones didnt move the kids elsewhere on that plaza, and he also wonders why they were allowed to wear MAGA hats to a school sponsored event.

He also says what is obvious.  The boy who stared down Phillips made a choice. He chose to behave in a way that was going to be seen by many people as being disrespectful to an "old man". (64 is not old in this society but I suppose it's relative).

I agree with Cuomo. While video has generally debunked the idea that the students surrounded or abused the Native American, the scene of the MAGA clad teen smirking at an Indian singing a tribal song was and is never going to be a good look.

What is the basis in which our society should teach a 16 year old to disrespect his elders?  Cuomo said he has a son that age and if his son did that he would get a stern talking to , NO MATTER if the Indian man had "initiated" the contact.

And Cuomo is right.

A strange man approached him (with a friend telling him to go back to Europe), invaded his personal space without saying a word, and beat a  drum in his face.

First, why are you ignoring the actions of the actual adult to criticize the kid's supposed disrespect?

If a quizzical smile is disrespectful, how do you characterize the old man's behavior?

The kid acted admirably. I doubt many teen aged boys would be that restrained if someone walked up to them and told them to go back to their country of origin.

Sounds like you are advocating a pc solution.

Invaded his personal space? All the kid had to do was take a step back and talk to one of his friends about something. End of issue. At the least Phillips would have moved on to someone else, or left.

You are propagating the idea that Phillips was some sort of threat to these kids, which is absurd.

Most people recognize that individual personal space in public is usually an area about 3 ft in diameter unless the situation calls for that space to become smaller like on public transportation and standing. all the videos show phillips drum well within that space and within inches of the kids face at times. the kid had a few options , step back or to the side like you said , he could have asked for phillips to step back and to please take the drum out of his face, or he could have simply turned his back on the actions of an old asshat looking to cause a scene.

Was he a threat? the kid didn't look like he could tell and decided to do nothing.

The best abject lesson I have ever seen on invading anothers personal space and the consequences, was a video from somewhere in asia, a young lady was on mass transit , had a guy about her age behind her and every time the bus hit a bump he purposely bumped the girl with his crotch.

the guy did this a couple times and each time looked around to see if anyone was going to do anything , while he was looking around the girl dropped her hand down and behind her, which happened to be holding a rather largely spined cactus, and she held it about crotch height. well the guy didn't see that , and the next bump the bus hit he drove his crotch with harder force right into the cacti that was at the right height to make the ploy rather painful. there are 2 morals to this , first one is respect anothers personal space even in crowded situations ,the other ? watch out for pretty Asian girls holding desert flora.

had to do was take a step back and talk to one of his friends about somethinth

The adult could have done the same thing, of course.  In fact, the adult could have told his friend to stop harassing the kids with racist comments.  End of issue. Yet you blame the kid and excuse the adult.

You are propagating the idea that Phillips was some sort of threat to these kids

Am I? I thought I was propagating the idea he was being a provocative asshole.

Just for future reference, it's nice to know your position that teenaged boys should automatically understand that adults approaching them and getting in their face spewing racial comments are automatically not threats.

Interesting couple days for you. It's not harassment to scream slurs and epitaphs at someone who can walk way.... Adults who approach kids and spew racist comments are never a threat etc.etc...

Is that how things are on the South Side these days? Adults just get up in the faces of teenagers and tell them to get out of the country, and it's understood the kids are to blame if they don't immediately leave?  Things  sure have changed.

I don't blame the kids as much as some other people on the "left" do. To a certain extent they were just acting like hyped up teenagers who were over excited by what was going on.

But objectively, Nick Sandmann handled it poorly. It was a mistake to stare down a man 50 years older than himself. And singing a song at someone is not a hostile act per se. Some of the other kids disrespected Native Americans with the tomahawk chop.

Everyone should put this relatively harmless incident behind us and try to learn from it.

We have a PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES who lies and disrespects innocent people every day. Yet people, such as these kids, show him respect by wearing his hat. This sort of attitude is not going to work. All it does is foment more turmoil.

Sandmann is 16 or 17.  When I was 14 I got up every day and walked to the elevated line a couple blocks from our house and took the "L" to the Catholic boys school I attended. The route over 5 miles took me almost entirely through an all black neighborhood. Every day.  I grew up in one of the largest cities in America and have seen all this sort of thing before. Occasionally there are strange or unnerving things that happen in life.

The kids from Kentucky could have handled it better. The Native American elder could have handled it better. The Black Israelites should have been ignored.

You are acting like some grievous offense to these kids took place by the act of Nathan Phillips "getting in their face". You are the one acting politically correct now.

There absolutely are, and I agree, in a sane world, the confrontation at the plaza would be the most trivial of non stories.

Here's the thing, it wasn't the kids who made this a national story claiming to be victimized.

You are acting like some grievous offense to these kids took place by the act of Nathan Phillips "getting in their face".

The grievous offense wasn't getting in their face. It was circulating a misleading video and lying about what happened.  What happened at the plaza should be a non-story, except that the facts have to be shown to demonstrate what a liar Phillips is and how badly the media failed in it's reporting.  That's why it important to understand Phillips' actions, because the national media lied about them and put the kids behavior in a false context.  The media's bigotry and derangement over Trump caused them to lose all sense of perspective and reality and to uncritically use the words of an unstable man to attack kids.

What started happening on Saturday and  still continues that is the grievous offense.   Death threats, doxxing, threatening kids and family who weren't even there, as well as the media's utter failure to act with any sense of objectivity or restraint is why this has become an actual important story.

What actually happened at the plaza should never even have made the back page of the local penny shopper.

That is not a smirk but the facial expression for anger.

Do you realize that there is a whole science to facial expressions? There are gross (large) expressions and 8 micro expressions.

Here is how to make a smirk:

Personally Perrie I saw it more as a face of defiance and arrogance.

"How dare you get in MY face ! "

perhaps anger was the underlying factor but to me that was my interpretation of the projection.  Arrogant defiance, a reaction to fear, quite possibly.

If he had done that, we would never have heard the racist comments by the black racists and racist native. If those kids had complained about them, you and your ilk would have just shrugged them off and told them to get over it...or called them liars.

With everything on film, you can't do that so you try and put the onus on the kids to do the right thing about ADULTS who should not have been doing what they did in the first place.

The school must be so proud of this entitled pricks,

Boys from Covington Catholic High School heckled two women  near the Lincoln Memorial before they faced off with Native American protesters, one of the women has claimed.

Twitter user Linds, who took video of the incident, said she and a friend were walking past a group of Covington students on Friday when they began shouting 'MAGA' and 'build the wall' out of nowhere.

The footage stands at odds with claims by Nick Sandmann, the teen filmed going eye-to-eye with Vietnam war veteran Nathan Philips, who said the boys were minding their own business waiting for a bus home before being provoked into an altercation.

.

I’m just going to put this right here. The video is the same group of Covington Catholic High School kids. This time showing girls from the girls school, and not one of them said a word about this comment “It’s not rape if you enjoy it”. This is disgusting and these kids are not innocent as their parents’ PR firm is trying to paint them. They showed their true selves when the surrounded and taunted Nathan Phillips. This video shows the vulgarity of their thought process. These boys are the product of failed parenting who have been unleashed unto the world. These are boys who think that rape is okay; that intimidation and harassment is okay and that they are entitled to behave like this in a public space.

I think this is a somewhat questionable string of sentences. I try to be as accurate as possible . I dont think they surrounded Phillips, he walked into their midst. I wouldnt describe their behavior as something that has been "unleashed unto the world". That is a little hyperbolic. Maybe a lot hyperbolic. And I'm not sure they feel entitled to harrass and intimidate  people. The videos really dont quite show that.

Some on the left are going to have to swallow their whistles on this one and be more accurate.

"It’s not a symbol of racism. It’s actually the right’s symbol of resistance to leftist intolerance."

The whole ideology behind "Make America Great Again" is not "Resist the lefts intolerance", the very words themselves explain MAGA's intent, that of going back to something, because "again" indicates it's something we had at one time. And what's the era most of these white evangelical Christians are fantasizing about? Certainly not the 1990's, nor the 1980's, definitely not the disco 1970's, and surely not the hippy 1960's, ah, but wait, I think we have a winner, the 1950's, when white protestant Christians were large and in charge. Businesses could freely refuse service to those they claimed were cursed in their religion, those so-called "Sons of Cain", and gays didn't dare leave the closet unless they wanted to be thrown in a mental institute or worse. And women stayed at home where white Christian protestants believed they should stay, doing the jobs God gave them like giving birth, raising kids, doing the laundry and dishes and cooking their domineering husbands dinner on time.

That's what MAGA means to most of these sycophant Trump supporters. They would love if Trump took them back to the 1950's, before the civil rights act and voting rights act were passed, where discrimination against minorities and those of other faiths or none wasn't just tolerated, it was expected. Back when towns still knew what taring and feathering unwanted outsiders and any subversive elements (aka free thinkers) really meant.

They can keep lying about their motives, but they're not fooling anyone, they prove it by their actions. They prove it by their continual refusal to condemn the guys wearing Nazi armbands and MAGA hats chanting "Jews will not replace us!". These bigots don't want to make America great, we've never been greater than we are now, we've never had as much freedom and equality for every American regardless of race, gender, gender equality, sexual orientation, faith or the lack thereof (or at least we did before Trump and his groups of bitter bigots started running things). Even in regards to the number of immigrants illegally entering the US, back in 2002 it was 1.8 million a year, now it's just one 7th that number proving there is no crisis on the border, it's all fucking smoke and mirrors being used by piece of shit bigots who are getting support from other conservative Republicans who aren't bad people but for some reason aren't able to filter out their compatriots bullshit and believe the lies they're told.

You got it pretty much right.

The subliminal message of Make America Great Again is Make America White Again.   Trump appealed to those whites who want to try and stem the "browning" and "blacking" of America. Predictions from social scientists have been accumulating that in the relatively near future whites will fall below 50% of the population. Voila, the US will no longer be a "white" country. MAGA is an "attempt" to counteract that fact.

When exactly did conservative Christians become a race of their own? You should stop using terms that you do not understand and do not apply to you. You are not being persecuted.

Blood libel is an antisemitic canard accusing Jews of kidnapping and murdering the children of Christians in order to use their blood as part of religious rituals. Historically, these claims—alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration—have been a major theme of the persecution of Jews in Europe.

It is not about that one smirking boy or even about all those obnoxious schoolboys being inflamed by a mere handful of nutter Black Israelites who were there merely to cause trouble. It is about all of those schoolboys disrespecting and disrupting the Native Americans's sacred ceremony. All of those young men who were making those mock Indian war chants and exaggerated tomahawk chops were being unforgivably disrespectful. Their chaperones were negligent and the Catholic Church was too for shipping a great big bunch of MAGA hat wearing testosterone fueled schoolboys to DC to protest against American women's hard earned reproductive rights smack dab in the middle of a damn government shutdown...

And that is the biggest load of horseSHIT, I have ever seen on this site.

Your diatribe is so far off base your not even in the same galaxy as the rest of the site.

what it  is about now is the fact that MAGA hats and conservatives  were made targets long ago by the likes of Maxine Waters and a bunch of asshurt losers if they were ever seen in public  and now some are not taking it anymore , your mock and false calls of rascism depend to fall on deaf ears , the issue of disrespect to some asshat charlatan ambulance chasing liberal provacatuer is about as false as your outrage for political gain.

Thing some of the more strident opposition forget , respect can not be demanded , a certain amount is given , more is given as it is earned , or it is lost by ones own actions  so demanding these kids or anyone else respect those that show nothing but utter disrespect is rather laughable.

what was once said? let no crisis go to waste? well this manufactured crisis , actually came back and is continuing to bite those that tried to instigate it , namely phillips , and the idot rascist black iraelites  and ever single left leaning American right on their politically charged bigoted rascist asses, thing is there are some on the left that realize they jumped the shark and lost and have had the "grace " and presence of mind to admit they were wrong , the others are not worth the pixels on the screen to engage. because they see nothing more than their own pitiful politics.

Oh and even though I support pro choice ,  I am also pro life , and consider abortion murder in the first, the law disagrees with me of course , but that doesn't mean I have to associate or have any sort of relationship , with those I consider murderers. freedom of choice is a great thing.

A good blend will move America forward at a reasonable speed.

Too many of any one ideology is bad for America.

America needs to move forward as the world progresses.

Too many cons = little to no forward movement.

Too many liberals = move too fast forward.

Too many Independents = well you can’t have too many….lol (I’m one) LOL

Are you concerned the wearers are racist haters, or do you just question their mental stability / judgment as a Trump supporter?  Either way, it really does not matter, as it is the hat that is the trigger, then assumptions are made regarding who the wearer is and what they believe in .. sad really...

Rent or mortgages, food, bills, taxes, insurance and car payments...

Free to die from taking unregulated medicine, freedom to drink tainted water, freedom to be ripped off by companies like Trump U, ...

BTW, weren't you on unemployment for quite a while?  How could you take that money?  Why didn't you just live in a cardboard box until you got a new job?

Watched an interview with 16 year old Nick Sandmann this morning .. I felt like I owed him an apology - I was on the students side from the beginning, but I found Sandmann's behavior rude and disrespectful ……………….. then I saw the unedited video and watched Phillips walk into a box canyon of people .. those students did not surround him, Phillips intentionally walked into a wall of young people … then later in an interview called the students 'beasts' .. and no one has an issue with that?

The student's got a raw deal in a nation so quick to be offended, so ready and willing to call everything and anything racism bigotry and hate …. all while being racist, bigoted and full of hate at a group of young white men (some) wearing MAGA hats - Sandmann had just bought his hat that very day … the phony outrage over racism/bigotry/hate dog whistlers from the left finally exposed themselves for who and what they are … hate filled revenge seekers .. does not matter if anyone is hurt - the goal is to force a narrative of 'Trump's America' … see how the president has impacted even the young people - their parents are failures blah blah blah....

This was an unfortunate event, handled poorly by 'adults in the room' … these young people did nothing, but be young people and I now believe they were respectful given the situation they were placed in by said 'adults in the room'....

True and it starts at the top both sides are willing to use anyone or anything to get their way at this point.

but I found Sandmann's behavior rude and disrespectful ………………..

I think most of us had the same reaction to that face he was wearing.

This was an unfortunate event, handled poorly by 'adults in the room'

I see a lot of that these days.

I felt like I owed him an apology

Not I, I'll bet he thinks twice about using that face again much. Arrogance IMO: Is never a good thing at any age.

But it is his face, how is he going to avoid using it?

A 60 year old man at the behest of God, approached a group of teens and then proceeded to beat a drum in the face [literally in the face] of a minor … but it is the minor that is arrogant for not wiping that look off his face and cowering to a bully .. interesting...

Sorry that's more specifically what I meant. Of Course it's his face, probably one of many.

Most of us have our share, when and where we display them, is learned. this kid just learned one.

The hard way.

Which could have been worse., I have little doubt some people have died over displaying a face like that at the wrong time and the wrong place. From what I've heard displaying that kind of face is not too popular in a prison for instance.

Fair enough .. I understand what you are saying - Nick Sandmann's smile was off putting for the situation that he found himself in, yet I do not think it was intentional .. I do not think he knew how to act or react - a smile seemed to be the lesser 'evil' in his mind .. just my interpretation of Sandmann's words this morning on the Today show … He def got a life lesson, however, it is too bad it was taught in such a manner …

Perhaps this was a teaching moment for many.

Including for those  individuals who wish to intervene where they have no authority to do so no matter how well intentioned. That's what we have authority figures in this country to do when there is a problem.

I say call 911 and let those trained in this kind of problem deal with it.

I see this kind of"intervention" blow up in people s faces way too often.

Many times In reality, No one wins and the problem just gets more involved instead.

911 is there for a reason.

True... and agreed that calling the authorities then waiting til they arrive is the best approach for sure

Many years ago I was out with friends when we witnessed a man smacking a woman around .. my 2 friends quickly stepped in to stop the man .. the women then jumped on one of my friends back and scratched his face, he is still scarred 30+ years later..

Yet .. how can one just sit there and watch physical abuse …?  What happened over the weekend was verbal in nature until Phillips stepped in .. then the immediate problem of the Black Hebrew Israelites shouting racial slurs and insults was eliminated and Phillips group became/magnified the problem that was of none of their concern ………. seems to be a vicious cycle of catch 22's in all directions....

the day this made news, here in Phoenix we had two separate incidents here were people tried to intervene where they had no authority to do so, one was being sought after by the authorities, the other was in jail.

to each their own

I didn't say I was happy with either one of these peoples actions actually I have said I dont think trying to intervene in anything like like this ever works out well.

Yes I think the arrogant little man should have wielded to the older man but I was brought up t have respect for those who are older.

IMO: the child was testing his own manhood, and kinda failed actually in my book because standing up to a fool at any age IMO is foolish.

The MAGA hat does symbolize racism now but not in the way the left intended. It symbolizes the unfounded racist meltdown of the left.....and some on the right.   These kids have had their lives threatened and their school closed because they are white, plain and simple.

In this situation, yes, I agree that the students were singled out due to being perceived as 'white 'privileged/entitled' boyz' wearing red MAGA hats .. the hysteria that the media sells has many Americans seeing racism and hate around every corner already .. it is not a leap to create a vision of 'mob rule' from 'white boyz' full of supposed hate and racism, it does not have to actually exit to send the easily offended into a tail spin of emotion based responses...

There is a new threat to the high school this morning .. but classes are in session .. here's hoping cooler heads prevail .. and the threats cease....

I just watched Phillips interview on Today .. I do not know what Phillips expects to happen, he never comes out and says that he thinks he is the victim of a hate crime . yet .. he is still angry, but forgives Sandmann … Sandmann is insincere, does not take responsibility and his words are rehearsed, but Phillips has forgiveness in his heart … Phillips watched 40 seconds of Sandmann's interview and was sorry he was forced to watch - but he forgives …???  Is that forgiveness?

Truly sad, and all of it could easily have been avoided, but emotion overruled logic .. I half expect a law suit to be filed on the behalf of Nathan Phillips for mental duress caused by being 'blocked' by Nick Sandmann, I do not think he will be letting this go anytime soon.... since this event, Phillips military serve has been brought to the nations attention .. that has to hurt... he served, that is all anyone needs to know..

That is sad.

Ya know, I’ve watched several videos of this incident, read analysis, listened to commentary and I’ve come to a conclusion.  It was all good.  Sure, there was some salty language, smirking, intimidation.  But these things are part of a plural society. Always have been, always will be.  Bottom line......nobody got hurt.  The boys had the numbers to do damage, the Israelites had the rage and the Indians boldness to close the distance.

What at is completely and totally unacceptable are the threats of violence. These groups confronted each other on the National Mall and were all within their first amendment rights.  They walked away from each other without a scratch......... Since then, there have been Bomb threats and threatening to stuff teenage boys boys into wood chippers?  Who the fuck does that?  They aren’t Americans I can assure you.

I wonder what all the respect his culture people feel about that. Everything about this guy is fake.

My opinion of the other players has. I still wonder where the adults who were chaperoning were. I wonder why the Black Israelites were not part of the equation.

I can understand Nick Sandmann not knowing just what was going on when Phillips came up to him banging a drum and singing a native song. It probably was a little disorienting for a 16 year old kid.  But then Sandmann continues to confront Phillips for a relatively lengthy amount of time. The kid should have simply stepped away out of respect for someone 50 years older than himself.

I don't think Phillips has been particularly accurate in his post incident comments either though.

Hello Perrie  ..

Somethings are always bound to stir up the hornets nest .. but you should not let that stop you from sharing that which you find interesting …

The Black Hebrew Israelites fading away and the location of the chaperones is a bit of a mystery in this mess … It is sad that any of this was allowed to happen .. seems like it could have been easily avoided .. the students should have relocated when the old black men started in with the commentary of insults -

Although we disagree on this current incident, I respect your thoughts and opinion …. would love to have a beer with you : )
