Pete Buttigieg’s message to France sends social media into a tizzy
Just when you thought presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg’s list of talents couldn’t get any longer.
The 37-year-old Indiana mayor — a graduate of Harvard and Oxford universities, Rhodes Scholar, Afghanistan veteran and musician — sent social media ablaze Monday night when he delivered a touching message to the people of France in the wake of the Notre Dame blaze — in fluent French.
English and French are just two of seven languages that Buttigieg speaks.
“To the people of France, I would like to say that Notre Dame cathedral was like a gift to the human species,” the Democrat told a reporter from the French station BFM TV at a fundraiser in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“We share the pain, but we also thank you for this gift to civilization.”
While Buttigieg is enjoying his time in the sun, a Emerson poll released Monday put him in third place in a national poll of 2020 contenders, behind Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, respectively.
Video of his message went viral as social media users fawned over his talents and hailed the mayor of South Bend as the next president.
By Tuesday afternoon, the clip had 3.3 million views.

Some weeks back I read an article in the Guardian about Mayor Pete and this one reference in particular got a "Holy Crap" out of me.
Wow! A book collector/lover willing to learn a whole new language just to be able to fully appreciate his treasure.
Haven't seen him slip up yet and am really looking forward to watch how he and the rest of the candidates shape up over the next several months.
Isn't it something? I mean some folks hear called President Obama an idiot, and you name it. He is a very intelligent man.
And people look up to this turd 'president' who couldn't win Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? This illiterate moron couldn't win Are You Smarter Than a Kindergartener?
I'm surprised people aren't sneering at this man's intelligence and calling him a liberal elite or whatever.
I guess the turd supporters are so jealous of accomplished, intelligent, literate, humane human beings.

Stephen Colbert Applauds France’s Response To Donald Trump’s Notre Dame Cathedral Fire Fighting Advice

Stephen Colbert marveled at the fire-fighting advice dispensed by President Donald Trump as Notre Dame Cathedral burned.
Seeing the nearly 900-year-old cathedral engulfed in flames via TV news, Trump offered his help tweeting “So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!”
“Does he think every time there is an emergency in France they shout, ‘The cathedral is on fire! We must check Donald Trump’s Twitter feed! He says we must act quickly, get the water! Why didn’t we think of water?! We’ve been using cheese!'"
The French Civil Security agency did respond to Trump’s tweet, issuing one of their own to say, “Hundreds of firemen of the Paris Fire Brigade are doing everything they can to bring the terrible #NotreDame fire under control. All means are being used, except for water bombing aircraft which, if used, could lead to the collapse of the entire structure of the cathedral.”
“For fire fighters, they really know how go give a sick burn,” Colbert said approvingly.
You gotta admit, he's pretty cool.
If he gets the nomination, and Trump runs again, I could see him picking up some Republican votes.
It's such a hard thing. You need to be extreme to win the nomination and then moderate to win the general.
My impulse is to say there's no way the mayor of a small town is going to be elected president, but now - with Trump getting elected - who knows? Maybe anything is possible.
One would hope not. I expect that most people who wouldn't vote for him because he's gay probably wouldn't have voted for him if he were straight, either.
That's stupid.
I do not think it is at this time, although there are some still rankled over the gay thing most folks could care less what goes on between two adults. If he really has the goods then he could make a deep run, the fact that he has not jumped onto the hard left bandwagon bodes well for him in my opinion.
I'd rather he not make a Senate run, that is a place where folks seem to leak their brains out through their ears.
I heard him on an interview, and being gay is just a small part of how he defines himself. It's more about being a vet, being a mayor, being a Christian, and being being moderate, so I think the last thing he would do is fly the colors over the White House. In fact, for some on the left, he is not out there enough.
Too early to tell.
What the hell?
In fact? Says who?
Did you vote for Donald J. Trump because he was a white male and apparently heterosexual?
It's such a hard thing. You need to be extreme to win the nomination and then moderate to win the general.
That's always been true-- in both parties.
To win the Democratic nomination, a candidate has to be a bit left of the position he or she needs to take to win the general election. Its common for a Democrat to move closer to the center (a bit to the right) after they get the nomination.
And of course the same is usually the case for Republicans (but from the opposite side of the spectrum). They run more to the right in the primary-- then in most cases have to move a bit toward the center to win the general election.
I supported Bernie in the primary because I'm a progressive. I voted for sHillary Clinton because she was rational and intelligent, despite the fact that she is a centrist conservative.
A person's gender and sexuality are completely irrelevant to me. I'd vote for an intersexxed celibate person whose skin was tartan plaid if I agreed with their ideas.
Calling Hillary a centrist conservative is like calling Mao a libertarian.
Hillary is a lifelong supporter of the progressive income tax, the estate tax, Federal Redistribution of wealth programs, food stamps, Universal healthcare, and a hardcore abortion supporter. To the point of her 2016 platform called for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment and taxpayer funding of abortions. She forced Tim Kaine to support that abortion position to be her running mate.

comment in question was restored [sP & PH]
Did the fact that not voting for her would help Trump get elected have anything to do with you voting for her?
I have said before that she was the lesser of 2 evils. I've never shied away from the idea that I was voting against Donald Trump's horrific ideals.
Hillary was not and never has been a progressive but I wouldn't have to wake up in the morning and wonder how the Mango Mussolini embarrassed the country or himself last night on Twitter.
She is a rational, experienced and stable adult and it would have been 4 years of boring economic and domestic stability while conservatives tried to investigate her and ranted about underground pizza shops and her ankles.
What's your solution? Burn Hillary at the stake?

Nope just make sure that no Democrat ever have the reigns of power until they renounce their ideology
So many folks have such a hard on for Hillary. Get over it.
I didn’t specifically mention Hillary and I seldom even consider her except to give thanks that she is not president. I specifically cited being opposed to any Democrat being president given their ideology
What "Democratic ideology?"
That's quite an over-generalization!
There is a range of views within the party.
From Capitalists* like Howard Schultz (entrepreneur, CEO of Starbucks) and Warren Buffett to Socialists like AOC.
______________
*Warren Buffett is definitely no leftist. He's a multi-billionaire (I believe his latest rating is the second or third richest person in the entire world.
The Dem leadership and their platform is no different from the Communist Manifesto. And their societal values are to the far left including in their platform therepeal of the Hyde amendment and subsequent taxpayer funding of abortions
Even Schultz and Buffett who you mention both support fascist crony capitalism
When do you plan to renounce your far right extremist ideology? Jesus wasn't a capitalist.
.
.
The Dem leadership and their platform is no different from the Communist Manifesto.
ROFLMAO!
Thanks for that-- I needed a really good laugh today!
Today, I saw a video clip of @PeteButtigieg playing classical piano. Another were (sic) he speaks in Spanish. And this one, were (sic) he tells Parisians, he shares their pain — in French. . . . Just imagine having a President whose intellect exceeds that of a root vegetable … for a change.”
There is something about this young man, would like to hear more on policy but so far so good.
Morning Luther ...
you may have see this already .. it is not necessarily Major Pete's 'policy' but it provides a glimpse of his 'approach' to current events ..
I did but thank you anyway.
Like I mentioned so far so good, I would like to hear more from him as he has separated himself from the herd and seems to have ideas of his own. I am just interested in the road map to enact them.
Everything else to one side, he is a breath of fresh air for a change.
Agreed! A very fresh breath of air!
only if you find cesspools refreshing
only if you find cesspools refreshing
In what ways do you find him to be like a "cesspool"?
Using excessive profanity?
Uncalled for nasty attacks on people?
Or just overall crudeness?
Do you really feel that way-- and if so, why?
(Curious minds want to know!)
Please do elaborate ..
I will patiently wait for your ooo so deep thoughts... I am betting it is going to be a gay bashing (?)
What are you babbling about?
His Marxist anti-Constitution ideology. His false Christianity which openly defies the teachings of Jesus
And trump and pence do? You do understand that by today's standards, Jesus would be a far left wing liberal, right?
Marxist?
Link please!!!!
Nope-- they are totally consistent with the teachings of Jesus!
(If you really believe that-- please provide some evidence. Otherwise its just an idle comment!!).
Wrong. The left and especially atheists are fond of repeating the lie you stated.
Jesus said everyone must repent and live holy
Jesus condemned ALL sex outside of the marriage of a man and a woman
Jesus told believers that the world (and that includes governments) will hate believers if they are His followers because this is not our world
everything we do and say is glorify God, not man orgovernments.
Jesus NEVER ONCE advocated for Govt to replace personal responsibility and trust in God for our provision.
Jesus said the poor will ALWAYS BE WITH US- He never said anything about stealing from others to give to those who didn't earn it.
Jesus NEVER advocated trusting govt for your health
Jesus NEVER supported govts of any kind as being part of the life of believers
Scripture does not record Jesus or the Apostles giving MONEY to the poor.
He met their spiritual and sometimes material needs. He healed their physical afflictions
He paid taxes to the government. He paid tithes to the church. But when asked, in Luke 20:22-25:
“Now tell us—is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
He saw through their trickery and said, “Show me a Roman coin. Whose picture and title are stamped on it?”
“Caesar’s,” they replied.
“Well then,” he said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”
In other words, Jesus believed in the separation between church and state. But the reality is that EVERYTHING belongs to God
The earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein. Psalm 24:1
for “the earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness.” 1 Corinthians 10:26
Notice how many times “government” is used in the following:
“When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do…But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. Matthew 6:2-4 (emphasis mine)
Consider also 1 John 3:17: “If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?”
Jesus said if you see your brother in need, help him (Matthew 25) He DID NOT say "get them in a government program.
Jesus didn’t expect the government to serve the poor. In fact, Jesus wasn’t primarily focused on the CHURCH serving the poor, His focus was on the soul and redeeming people to the Father.
Those who felt entitled to the fruits other people's labor were called thieves. Those who demanded others give so they didn’t have to were called Pharisees.
Jesus taught that you were to pay taxes, so drop the libertarian hyperbole that taxes are theft.
The man is worth listening too for a bit to see what he's about. He's accomplished quite a bit at this point in his life. Impressive.
"in fluent French."
Wow ?
I hear Melania can speak 5 Languages fluently, but she's considered a Dink by the Left.
Accomplishments are in the eye of the Ideologic Beholder I guess !
Beto....move over.....Buttigieg just took your "Good little Boy" Spotlight.
He is now the new 3rd "Black President" !
Buttigieg sounds like Hans Christian Anderson (His stories have inspired ballets, plays, and animated and live-action films - Fairy tales ) ! Buttigieg can make any story sound like "HE'S" ssssso "Wonderful" !
People talk about Melania being a genius and that she speaks many languages fluently.
Where is proof of this?
She struggles with English.
Yeah, she's a real Einstein.

Hopefully he doesn't meet the same fate as Harvey Milk. Not being an American, and having both liberal and conservative views depending on the issue, being neither a Democrat nor a Republican, I would favour Buttigieg to be POTUS over anyone who has yet thrown their hat into the ring. I respect and admire a person who has his qualities.
