President Joe Biden offered some remarks on Thursday on the first anniversary of when a mob of Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol to stop the peaceful transition of power. Biden tore into Trump without mentioning his name, and I'm pretty sure his predecessor is suffering from a narcissistic injury after listening to that powerful speech.

"For the first time in our history, a president had not just lost an election. He tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob reached the Capitol," Biden said in a speech from the Capitol. "But they failed. They failed. And on this day of remembrance, we must make sure that such an attack never, never happens again."

"His bruised ego matters more to him than our democracy or our Constitution. He can't accept he lost," he continued.

Biden went on to praise the police officers who defended the Capitol.

"One year ago today in this sacred place, democracy was attacked — simply attacked. The will of the people was under assault, the Constitution — our Constitution — faced the gravest of threats," the President said. "Outnumbered in the face of a brutal attack, the Capitol Police, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, the National Guard, and other brave law enforcement officials saved the rule of law. Our democracy held. We the people endured. We the people prevailed."

He took several shots at Trump.

Biden said as the attack unfolded, former President Donald Trump, "who had just rallied the mob," was "watching it all on television, and doing nothing for hours as police were assaulted."

He said that Trump's "supporters are trying to rewrite history" and say that Election Day 2020 was the real insurrection. "Can you think of a more twisted way to look at this country? To look at America?" he said.

"He's not just a former president, he's a defeated former president," Biden said. "Defeated by a margin of over seven million of your votes."

Watch:

News teams across the world get one hell of a soundbite!

President Biden straight-up called Trump a liar, and a man that's incapable of accepting defeat. That was probably the most powerful speech that Biden has ever given in his career.

For those of you who don't believe the Capitol Police were in any danger please google or whatever search engine you use to look up interviews with them. I saw an interview this morning on ABC and it really showed what those men went through

"watching it all on television, and doing nothing for hours as police were assaulted."

What was he to do in Mr. Biden's mind. Go on TV and tell them to stop? I doubt any of the rioters had their smartphones tuned in to a television station.

Go to the Capital? Don't think the Secret Service would have let that happen.

Once they started, I guess he could have tweeted. But with the violence going on, who would be looking at Twitter?

Deploy the National Guard? I thought Ms. Pelosi was in charge of the Capital Police and could have requested that at any time.

Glad no more shit hit the fan than did. Glad no more life was lost. But one has to wonder, what could have been done once it started rolling. The preparation lacked ANY sense of urgency even with warning we found out about after the fact, that they had.

What was he to do in Mr. Biden's mind. Go on TV and tell them to stop?

Yes!!! That is what Hannity was begging him to do.  That is what Ivanka was begging him to do.  That is what Jim Jordan was begging him to do.

What did he do?  Hours later he went on television and told the insurrectionists that he loved them.

And, in his position of CiC, he should immediately find out where the national guard was to assist Capitol Police.

Go to the Capital? Don't think the Secret Service would have let that happen.

Which is why nobody has ever suggested that.

Once they started, I guess he could have tweeted. But with the violence going on, who would be looking at Twitter?

Seriously?  Many of them were caught by the FBI because they were Tweeting about breaking into the Capitol!  So a shit load of those shit heads would have been looking.

Deploy the National Guard? I thought Ms. Pelosi was in charge of the Capital Police and could have requested that at any time.

Another false claim.

But one has to wonder, what could have been done once it started rolling.

Hmmm, what did they do with the peaceful BLM march???

and most of those after the fact by posting video on Twitter and Facebook which got them caught

You mean all those live streaming and taking selfies at the Capitol and immediately posting them?  It's like you haven't read anything on how these idiots have been identified.

Also it was not an attempt to reach each and every one of them, just enough to start spreading the news that their "holy one" has asked that they stop and leave the Capitol Building.

Jailed Capitol-riot defendant blasts Trump for canceling his January 6 press conference, saying he abandoned his supporters

  • Trump canceled a scheduled press conference to mark the first anniversary of the Capitol riot.

  • A jailed Capitol-riot defendant said he was disappointed in the decision and felt abandoned.

  • Edward Jacob Lang is awaiting trial in a Washington, DC, jail after he assaulted a police officer.

A jailed Capitol-riot defendant said he was disappointed in Donald Trump for canceling his January 6 press conference and suggested that the former president had abandoned his supporters.

"There should be a hundred thousand people in DC tomorrow at the very minimum," Edward Jacob Lang, 26, told " The Stew Peters Show " in a Wednesday phone interview from jail. He continued, "I am so disappointed with Trump and with the American people at large that just do not get behind the January 6 political prisoners."

"I feel like I've been completely abandoned by the political hierarchy here. Where are our leaders standing up, our congressmen, our senators, our president?" he said. "President Trump, where are you?"

Lang then addressed Trump directly, saying: "January 6 you better do a press conference, man. We are rotting in jail because we stood up for what you told us to stand up for."

Lang, from New York, has been charged with 11 counts, including assaulting a police officer with a bat and a protective shield,   court documents   said.

He is among dozens of Capitol-riot defendants facing the most serious accusations relating to the insurrection, and who are awaiting trial in the   Central Detention Facility   in Washington, DC.

It would have been better for Trump if he had attempted to stop the insurrection and not let it fester for hours.   If the facts do hold that he watched it on TV for hours (much less cheering for 'his people') before finally making a public statement, that it not going to play well if this comes to trial.

From what I have observed of Trump, I am inclined to believe the above more likely to be true than false.

Better how?  It isn't going to matter to him personally one way or another.

If the facts do hold that he watched it on TV for hours (much less cheering for 'his people') before finally making a public statement, that it not going to play well if this comes to trial.

It won't come to trial.  Trial plays into Trump's hands.

This entire exercise is a transparent pile of nonsense whose sole aim is political gain for Democrats.  If they go to trial, they'll lose embarrassingly and Trump will claim yet another victory.

The more likely event is that they'll drag this out and use it to air dirty laundry throughout this campaign year in an attempt to limit midterm damage. Then when they lose the House, the entire thing will evaporate and they'll be able to whine about Republicans defending Trump.

Letting this fester for hours without taking any action indicates that Trump wanted it to continue.   Had he quickly taken action to cease the hostility (regardless of whether or not he could actually stop it) he would have support for a claim that this was not what he wanted to happen.

It won't come to trial.   ...   If they go to trial, they'll lose embarrassingly and Trump will claim yet another victory.

Depends on the nature of the trial, the exact charges, the persuasiveness of the evidence, the skill of the attorneys, the disposition of the judge, etc.    I do not take much stock in predicting the outcome of a trial with so many unknowns on the table.

The more likely event is that they'll drag this out and use it to air dirty laundry throughout this campaign year in an attempt to limit midterm damage.

They will certainly do that.   But that does not obviate a trial.

Then when they lose the House, the entire thing will evaporate and they'll be able to whine about Republicans defending Trump.

The midterm loss is almost predictable regardless of factors like this.    And an R who defends Trump's Big Lie con-job deserves to be criticized for said defense.

I think you want to be careful about drawing that conclusion on Trump given the failure to take action against rioters in so many other parts of the country.

Had he quickly taken action to cease the hostility (regardless of whether or not he could actually stop it) he would have support for a claim that this was not what he wanted to happen.

A trial is a no-win situation for Democrats.  When they lose, they've failed to enforce any action against Trump....for the fourth time.

If by some miracle they "win", it's the biggest pyrrhic victory in American history, as they open the door for criminal charges against local Democrats who did nothing to stop the riots in the summer of 2020.  That's going to be a never-ending train of charges filed against a long list of officials, running well through the next presidential election and reinforcing Republican accusations that Democrats are soft on crime and coddle domestic terrorists.

There is not a chance they will allow that to happen.

The actions by others are irrelevant to what I noted about Trump.   If Trump actually did knowingly allow this to fester then it matters not what others elsewhere do.

Again, what difference does it make to him?

My answer is the same as the last time you asked me.

I think you should be careful equating the duties of Mayors to the duties of the POTUS. It's a false equivalency.

Again, what difference does it make to him?

Thanks for at least acknowledging Trump's narcissism and the fact that y'all accept it as a given.

A trial is a no-win situation for Democrats.  When they lose, they've failed to enforce any action against Trump....for the fourth time.

Now that Trump no longer has the DOJ to protect him, all the shit hitting the wall will start to stick.

If by some miracle they "win", it's the biggest pyrrhic victory in American history, as they open the door for criminal charges against local Democrats who did nothing to stop the riots in the summer of 2020.

Just keep on hammering away at that false equivalency Jack. It's all you've got.

You seem to think that the POTUS has no more responsibility than your local Mayor or DA. It's a ridiculous posit. I suggest that you READ the Constitution.

That's going to be a never-ending train of charges filed against a long list of officials, running well through the next presidential election and reinforcing Republican accusations that Democrats are soft on crime and coddle domestic terrorists. There is not a chance they will allow that to happen.

You have GOT to be kidding!

Seriously, the GOP and almost all of the RW here on NT support the insurrectionists.

The insurrectionists terrorized those in the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2020. There is no cogent argument to refute that fact.

I can't count how many times I have read comment stating that there couldn't have been an insurrection because none of them have been charged with insurrection.

One can't make or support that posit without acknowledging that conversely, there couldn't have been any 'domestic terrorists' since NONE of the 2020 protestors were charged with 'domestic terrorism'. Unless of course you're a hypocrite.

Problem is, if something does go to trial, then Trump will be allowed for discovery, where the actions of Pelosi, her emails, the emails of the capital police chief, and pretty much everyone else directly and indirectly involved somehow in that day will come to light.

Pelosi and her minions are fighting hard to not have these items released now. Why? Perhaps she has something she is hiding?

However, we cannot say the same about you and yours when it came to the true riots of the summer of 2020

How about naming those you think supported the riots.

READ those two lines S L O W L Y bugsy.

Can you see the difference?

Here, maybe I can help.

Insurrectionists are PEOPLE.

Riots are THINGS.

Your comment is not only a false equivalency, but also a strawman.

Quite an unusual twofer.

You made a claim that most right wingers on here supported the "INSURRECTION" of Jan 6.

There was NO insurrection, only in the imagination of the loons on the left.

Now, let's get past your silly claim of an insurrection and get back to the original request, of which I believe won't be answered.

Name the right wing on here that supported your little "insurrection"  and post the comments these posters made that prove your claim.

What was he to do in Mr. Biden's mind. Go on TV and tell them to stop? I doubt any of the rioters had their smartphones tuned in to a television station.

They were learning all kinds of info via their cell phones.  Why do you think that the violence began winding down 5 minutes after Trump released a video statement that said, "We love you and appreciate you, but it's time to go home now,"?

Even Trump's children tried to get him to make a statement to end the violence, but their words were ignored.

Not all the insurrectionists, and no comment on who they may have waiting for instructions from, but evidence is slowly coming to light that SOME of it may have been pre-planned, and certain Congressmen may have been a part of it.

Remember the unauthorized tours given the day before to some of the identified insurrectionists.....

Stephanie Grisham says Trump was 'gleefully watching' the January 6 riot on TV and 'hitting rewind'

Oma Seddiq
Thu, January 6, 2022, 9:46 AM
  • Stephanie Grisham said that Trump was "gleefully watching" the January 6 insurrection on television.

  • Her comments come on the first anniversary of January 6.

  • Grisham served as White House press secretary and former first lady Melania Trump's chief of staff.

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said on Thursday that former President Donald Trump "gleefully" watched his supporters violently storm the Capitol on January 6.

"All I know about that day was that he was in the dining room, gleefully watching on his TV as he often did, 'look at all of the people fighting for me,' hitting rewind, watching it again — that's what I know," Grisham told CNN's "New Day."

If it's something she "heard" but has no proof then show that.  Otherwise all I can assume is either she has me on ignore, or refuses to respond because she has no proof or she knows she is peddling false news.

The Jan 6 riot was allowed to happen by the capitol police, they had orders to let it get out of hand so it could be used for propaganda. They could have called in hundreds of local police for backup, they could have used teargas, rubber bullets, beanbags and if someone hit me with a flag I would have shot them with a real bullet.. In the case of those who first broke in the Capitol Building Security could and should have shot them as soon as they crossed the threshold. Who allowed it to happen and why, Trump was not in charge of the Capitol Police in any way, shape, or form. Five dead jackasses at the entrance to the Capitol Building and not one more person would have tried to enter. The left keeps talking about how bad Jan 6 made the USA look to the rest of the world but every other Government is just laughing at the idea that the United States Capitol Building could be breached by hundreds of unarmed yahoos, they know it couldn't have happened unless it was allowed to happen. The Capitol Police and every other Federal Law Enforcement and Security Agency embarrassed themselves in front of the whole world. If the Security at the Capitol Building was really this lame then every Terrorist Organization on Earth would be planning an assault but they're not stupid enough to believe Jan 6th was anything more than a false flag event to discredit the right and the left has made the most of it.

There does seem to be some evidence that some of the Capital police may have been aiding the insurrectionists, but not so the attack could be used as propaganda by the left but because they were close to right wing conservative legislators who were planning their "green bay sweep" and wanted the mob there as public backup for their attempted coup.

" Videos from the day of the attack appear to show some officers escorting rioters inside the building . In one video,  USCP officers can be seen opening barricades  allowing the mob to enter the Capitol complex without resistance ."

" Yes, I did see that. So we've seen a handful of videos that have shown either the D.C. Metropolitan Police or the Capitol Police sort of giving way to the demonstrators . And this has been used to talk about their alleged affinity with the demonstrators or their complicity in this kind of right wing politics. And while I'm sure there are officers who were very sympathetic to the protests and we know there are officers who buy into a lot of these conspiracy theories "

The Jan 6 riot was allowed to happen by the capitol police, they had orders to let it get out of hand so it could be used for propaganda.

That was my very first thought when I first learned what was happening at the Capital. In spite of my disdain for our government over the last 15 years or so, I could not believe something like this could be allowed to happen simply by incompetence. The second thought I had, like immediately after the first, was that I'm not sure I could think of a better gift to give the Democrats than something like this. How Pelosi avoided a joy induced heart attack is anyone's guess.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any evidence for it. At least not yet. At the moment, it may be that the government, and those associated with it are simply that incompetent.

None of that excuses the rioters (or as some insist, the insurrection. The most feeble, hard to categorize as an actual, willful attempt to replace the government with another that ever was.) So, we have idiots who, fueled by emotion, attacked the Capital building in a false sense of righteousness and either an incompetent government that wasn't prepared for an obvious possibility or it was intentionally allowed to happen. Either way, it doesn't give me a lot of hope.

What continues to fascinate and sadden me is that instead of condemning this act (and the behavior of Trump during his Big Lie con-job while sitting PotUS) the GOP (seems like most of it) seeks to whitewash, equivocate and deny the facts.   Instead of this being the last straw to break free of Trump (especially since he was leaving office) the GOP doubled-down on Trump.   It is like some variant of Stockholm syndrome is at play en masse in the GOP.

On the Dem side they would have voted for a turnip as long as it had a shot at beating Trump. Now, Repubs want to do the same damned thing. Run Trump again as long as they think he has a shot at beating whoever in 2024. This is why the popular vote is such a crappy idea. Especially when, for a frightening amount of voters, issues take a 5th seat behind sticking a thumb in your opponent's eye. Elections are nothing more than an expression of hate against the other side, these days.

Well then  you should take this information to Pelosi and the FBI...  of course they already have video of the speech and according to the FBI

TRUMP'S SPEECH

Trump made an incendiary speech at a nearby rally shortly before the riot, repeating false claims that the 2020 election was stolen and urging supporters to march on the Capitol to pressure lawmakers to reject Biden's victory.

In public comments last month to the Democratic-led congressional committee formed to investigate the violence, police officers injured in the mayhem urged lawmakers to determine whether Trump helped instigate it. Some Democrats have said they want him to testify.

But the FBI has so far found no evidence that he or people directly around him were involved in organizing the violence, according to the four current and former law enforcement officials.

If you want to hold Trump accountable for statements like 'You have to fight like hell' and such then you need to hold ALL politicians accountable to the same rules.

It’s not a bad speech, but I think I would have preferred he took a more healing approach in the manner of Lincoln. I think it’s important to remember that the people attacking the capitol, and those who weren’t there but supported them, are still Americans. They might be wildly deluded or deranged Americans, but they’re Americans all the same. Anger is justified, but not forever. At some point, our leadership should proceed to grace.

I advocate the approach of "The people causing the problems need to stop causing the problems before the rest of us become conciliatory."  It's much like marriage problems - if one has an abusive spouse, one is entirely justified in not making nice with that abusive spouse while the abuse is ongoing.  That tends to encourage more abuse.

The Big Liars need to stop lying before the honest, sane people are expected to make nice.

The other thing I find interesting about the Dixie Chick's being canceled by right wing white conservative Christians where they were blacklisted by thousands of country radio stations, received death threats, and were criticized by right wing media all because they spoke out against G.W. Bush invading Iraq, is that now most right wing white conservative Christians also criticize G.W. Bush who they now call part of the "establishment" and think his decision to invade Iraq was stupid all because their new Mango Mussolini said G.W.'s invasion of Iraq was "the single worst decision ever made."

Talk about hypocrites. First they cancel the Chicks for being against Bush and the war, now they rage against cancel culture and claim they were always against Bush and the war.

It is true that Trump tried to overturn the results of the election using the authority of his office and against the Constitution:

  • He lied claiming that he won the election but was cheated due to fraud.
  • He tried to suborn an unconstitutional act from his own V.P. — tried to get Pence to table counts of select states he lost to try to win through all other states.
  • He tried to get officials to 'find votes' so that he could win states he lost (e.g. Georgia).
  • He tried to get state legislators to override the votes in their states (e.g. Michigan)
  • He encouraged his supporters to fight against the 'fraud' and to protest the count (after months of working them up with lies of a fraudulent election).

If CNN and NYT print that 4 + 4 = 8 right wing conservatives will dismiss it based on the source alone. Let's face it, they're not about arguing facts and reality, they're here to defend their partisan battle lines with deflection, distraction, false equivalence, messenger assassination and what-about-isms. Because everything you said was factual and they're incapable of disproving a single statement they have to resort to attacking the messenger instead of attacking the facts.
