President Biden Does Not Hold Back On Trump, Delivers Powerful Speech On Anniversary Of Jan. 6th: "He's Not Just The Former President, He's A Defeated President"

President Joe Biden offered some remarks on Thursday on the first anniversary of when a mob of Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol to stop the peaceful transition of power. Biden tore into Trump without mentioning his name, and I'm pretty sure his predecessor is suffering from a narcissistic injury after listening to that powerful speech.
"For the first time in our history, a president had not just lost an election. He tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob reached the Capitol," Biden said in a speech from the Capitol. "But they failed. They failed. And on this day of remembrance, we must make sure that such an attack never, never happens again."
"His bruised ego matters more to him than our democracy or our Constitution. He can't accept he lost," he continued.
Biden went on to praise the police officers who defended the Capitol.
"One year ago today in this sacred place, democracy was attacked — simply attacked. The will of the people was under assault, the Constitution — our Constitution — faced the gravest of threats," the President said. "Outnumbered in the face of a brutal attack, the Capitol Police, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, the National Guard, and other brave law enforcement officials saved the rule of law. Our democracy held. We the people endured. We the people prevailed."
He took several shots at Trump.
Biden said as the attack unfolded, former President Donald Trump, "who had just rallied the mob," was "watching it all on television, and doing nothing for hours as police were assaulted."
He said that Trump's "supporters are trying to rewrite history" and say that Election Day 2020 was the real insurrection. "Can you think of a more twisted way to look at this country? To look at America?" he said.
"He's not just a former president, he's a defeated former president," Biden said. "Defeated by a margin of over seven million of your votes."

This entire exercise is a transparent pile of nonsense whose sole aim is political gain for Democrats. If they go to trial, they'll lose embarrassingly and Trump will claim yet another victory.
The more likely event is that they'll drag this out and use it to air dirty laundry throughout this campaign year in an attempt to limit midterm damage. Then when they lose the House, the entire thing will evaporate and they'll be able to whine about Republicans defending Trump.
Letting this fester for hours without taking any action indicates that Trump wanted it to continue. Had he quickly taken action to cease the hostility (regardless of whether or not he could actually stop it) he would have support for a claim that this was not what he wanted to happen.
Depends on the nature of the trial, the exact charges, the persuasiveness of the evidence, the skill of the attorneys, the disposition of the judge, etc. I do not take much stock in predicting the outcome of a trial with so many unknowns on the table.
They will certainly do that. But that does not obviate a trial.
The midterm loss is almost predictable regardless of factors like this. And an R who defends Trump's Big Lie con-job deserves to be criticized for said defense.

I think you want to be careful about drawing that conclusion on Trump given the failure to take action against rioters in so many other parts of the country.

A trial is a no-win situation for Democrats. When they lose, they've failed to enforce any action against Trump....for the fourth time.
If by some miracle they "win", it's the biggest pyrrhic victory in American history, as they open the door for criminal charges against local Democrats who did nothing to stop the riots in the summer of 2020. That's going to be a never-ending train of charges filed against a long list of officials, running well through the next presidential election and reinforcing Republican accusations that Democrats are soft on crime and coddle domestic terrorists.
There is not a chance they will allow that to happen.
The actions by others are irrelevant to what I noted about Trump. If Trump actually did knowingly allow this to fester then it matters not what others elsewhere do.

The Jan 6 riot was allowed to happen by the capitol police, they had orders to let it get out of hand so it could be used for propaganda. They could have called in hundreds of local police for backup, they could have used teargas, rubber bullets, beanbags and if someone hit me with a flag I would have shot them with a real bullet.. In the case of those who first broke in the Capitol Building Security could and should have shot them as soon as they crossed the threshold. Who allowed it to happen and why, Trump was not in charge of the Capitol Police in any way, shape, or form. Five dead jackasses at the entrance to the Capitol Building and not one more person would have tried to enter. That was my very first thought when I first learned what was happening at the Capital. In spite of my disdain for our government over the last 15 years or so, I could not believe something like this could be allowed to happen simply by incompetence. The second thought I had, like immediately after the first, was that I'm not sure I could think of a better gift to give the Democrats than something like this. How Pelosi avoided a joy induced heart attack is anyone's guess.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any evidence for it. At least not yet. At the moment, it may be that the government, and those associated with it are simply that incompetent.
None of that excuses the rioters (or as some insist, the insurrection. The most feeble, hard to categorize as an actual, willful attempt to replace the government with another that ever was.) So, we have idiots who, fueled by emotion, attacked the Capital building in a false sense of righteousness and either an incompetent government that wasn't prepared for an obvious possibility or it was intentionally allowed to happen.
