Who Would You Have Wanted To Run For President?

If there is one thing that this current election has proved, is the dissatisfaction with our candidates. Possibly, even dumping the whole political system.  Which brings several questions to mind for discussion. Who would you have wanted as a candidate, (you can think outside the box here), and why? Would you like to see more parties for more choices? Is our current system in need of updating? Let's talk!

My RBR: Be polite and no cursing.

I would have like to have seen Colin Powell run. He is an honest good man, and very intelligent. I also would like to see at least one other viable third party. I would also like any third party to be able to debate. Closing people out of the debates, is to close them out of the election. As for our system, I'm out with the electoral college. It is out dated and given to being gerrymandered and I'm out with Pacs and Citizens United. It takes away the voice of the people, and gives it to conglomerates.

I could see Powell as a good president, as long as he stood up to the right wing fanatics of his party in Congress, since he still identifies himself as a Republican.

Neither Jill Stein or Gary Johnson are remotely qualified to be president of the United States.

Just checked, did not know, Colin Powell would turn 80 years old shortly after taking office next year (April).

Machts nichts to me...  I would have voted for him if he were 90!  We had a really good politician, Natcher, who took care of all of us, and he was in office in his 90s.  Ford was also a good senator.  I'd vote for either one of them, if they were still alive...

"Colin Powell would turn 80 years old shortly after taking office next year (April)."

Isn't that one of the reasons there is a Vice-President?" Didn't Harry Truman do a good enough job?

There are several who ran in the GOP Primary and didn't win that I'd have really liked and would have been happier than at present with any of the others.  Rubio is our best choice for 2020.  I'd support Ryan if he ran for standing up to Trump.  Speakers of the House don't often run for President though.

Actually, I think that Rubio has much broader appeal than Trump. I just don't get what happened there.

I couldn't have said it better, Perrie. I totally agree with every aspect of your whole comment. I had wished that Powell had run against Obama, but he supported Obama, even though he was in a different party. In other words he put what he felt was the best choice for the country above party politics. Now that's a person who could have pulled the country together.

I don't want to hear that he supported Bush's war. If you couldn't read his pained face when he spoke loyally supporting his President in that then you've got to be blind. That kind of loyalty would be transferred to the American people if he had been President. However, he did make it clear that he did not want to run, and now, well, maybe someone younger would be best.

Gary Johnson/Mike Weld - two highly effective two term governors of their states.  Neither has lied to Congress, neither have had their businesses file bankruptcy, neither of them play with men/women/others.

Unfortunately, there are only 8 candidates on the ballots for Pres - Dem/Repub/Lib/Green/Constitution/Reform/Independent/Socialism (link available to review the candidates stand on issues -).  After reading the stances, my strong inclination is still to vote for Johnson/Weld.

Yes, our current system is in serious need of updating.  It has evolved into "just" a two moneyed party system that works on the premise of "He who has the gold, rules" and the people are losing/have lost out.  Our existing government, supposedly, operates under the tenet of "decision for the most is a decision for all" meaning that those who have the bucks can get preferential treatment and high government positions and the "all" are those who financially benefit from those decisions.

Gary Johnson is utterly unqualified to be president of the United States.

So is Hillary but that won't stop you from trying to put her where she doesn't belong.   BTW he is better qualified than Hillary because he has run a state very successfully and Hillary fucks up everything she touches.  Where Johnson has a history of doing things right just look at the running mate Hillary chose and his record in VA.  Raised the shit out of taxes and the deficit has risen substantially despite it the entire state is in the shitter.   Johnson cut taxed 14x and has built over a Billion surplus.

Oh I forgot.  Performance doesn't mean shit  to you.  Gaffs carry much more weight.  Hence your support for Hillary.  I'm sure you love her useless shitbag VP, Kaine just as much.

Very few people agree with you. Johnson is down to six percent in some polls, and dropping. His attitude, unfortunately for him, is "I don't give a shit about anything", and it shows in his interviews. I think his running mate, William Weld, is embarrassed to death to be honest with you.

I really don't care if you or anyone else agrees with the facts or not.      There is no comparison between his record on governing and Hillary's record on, well,  anything.   Take your pick

In retrospect, I wish that Biden had run. I think he could have got the younger people more enthused. Not as much as Bernie maybe, but more than Hillary.

My biggest issue with him was his age. He would be 74 years old when he took office, and I wondered if people would want such an old president. Given all the other issues that have come up since in this election, that now seems like a minor thing to hold against him.

I really like Biden, too. I know that some people think he shoots from the lip, but I would much rather that, than someone too smooth. I also like Condi Rice. She's very polished and well spoken. A tad to the right, but still not enough for me not to vote for her.

A Powell/Rice or a Rice/Powell ticket.  I believe either would be good for the American people, that they would govern from the middle and represent the vast majority of Americans.

Congressman Justin Amash.  He never misses a vote and he explains the bill, tells you how he voted and why, and if it passed or not, and how many yea/nay for EVERY SINGLE BILL.

Liking his FB page is the best way to keep on top of what bills are being put before congress and what happens to them that I have found anywhere.   Probably the only congressman we have left that's worth a crap.

He wanted to deny federal assistance to the people of Flint in the water crisis there.

"While the U.S. Constitution does not authorize the federal government to intervene in an intrastate matter like this one, the State of Michigan should provide comprehensive assistance to the people of Flint," Amash said. "The residents who were harmed deserve an independent, nonpartisan investigation, and the persons responsible for this crisis must be held accountable."

And he is right.  I know someone that thinks the government should take care of them from the time they take their first breath till the time they take their last would never understand this.

In MHO, both of you are kind of right. When people are in need of immediate help, the government should step in, and nothing is worse than not having safe drinking water. On the other hand, I also feel that the government should go after these violators and get back all the money they had to spend with jail time for endangering the public welfare.

I don't think the problem lies in the candidates, but the money and corruption.  Hillary has received more money than all the other candidates combined from Wall Street and that includes all these big corporations who own all the MSM.  Until we get money out of politics we will never elect our representatives.

There's more money spent in politics and elections than there ever has been in the history of this country by far.  I don't know exactly how we're going to be able to get it out as outside money has increased drastically over the last few years.

No wonder all the MSM are supporting Hillary and going to her cocktail parties.  There is a tremendous amount of money to be made.  A tremendous amount of money has been spent on her and MSM and many others have received it.

Jon Stewart. He's smarter than most of 'em. And he has more of an in depth understanding of American politics. And he has zero tolerance for bullsh*t-- plus he can spot it a mile away. Also he an idealist-- but also a pragmatist.

Dear Friend Perrie Halpern: Super topic. Thanks for posting.

As a proudly progressive liberal Democrat my first ticket choice would be Elizabeth Warren/Chuck Schumer. Good balance of domestic and foreign policy expertise. Back up ticket choice Tim Kaine/Corey Booker. Same reasons.

On the Republican side first choice is one who didn't run. David Petraeus/John Kasich. Petraeus was the only one whose plan worked in Iraq. Kasich is level headed and consistent. Neither of their politics are mine. But I respect both for reasons stated. Back up choice 0would be Lindsay Graham/John Kasich. Graham is intelligently strong on national defense. Kasich already covered.

Third party choices: News Talker Party. Kavika/Al-316. Kavika is a veteran and understands the need for level headed strength on foreign policy. Al-316 is wise and big hearted. That's all you need to succeed domestically. Back up ticket Buzz of the Orient/Larry Hampton. Same reasons.

Upstate NY Party (and Snow Removal Company). Spikegary/Perrie Halperin. Spikegary for strong and intelligent national security. Perrie for domestic agendas and management expertise in achieving such.

Heartland Party: Michelle Obama/Dowser. Ms. Obama is bright, speaks clearly and convincingly, is very intelligent and level headed. She can get things done. Dowser for the same reasons and Al-316 stated above.

Who would I never want to see in the White House? Enoch and Mrs. E. We already had two world wars. We don't need any more!

Peace, Abundant Blessings, and Never Ever Nominate or Vote for Me!
