For the first time in recent memory, US taking a hard look at costs of the UN

"For the first time in recent memory, the United States is taking a hard look at what it pays the United Nations and eyeing a potential cut that surely will stir up Turtle Bay...

For too long the U.S. has picked up an inordinate share of the United Nations' budget: approximately 22 percent of the regular budget and more than 28 percent of the peacekeeping tab, according to The Heritage Foundation. Based on the latest U.N. budget report, the U.S. paid more than $610 million for 2017; the next highest contributor, Japan, came in at $268 million.

Ultimately the Trump administration is examining 'at least a 40 percent overall decrease' in U.N. contributions, The New York Time reports.

Clearly the days of going along to get along at the U.N. are coming to an apropos end. Here's to fair funding and a better understanding of what the U.S. expects for what it pays."

Just curious. How much rent does the UN pay for its prime Manhattan Island real estate? What would be a fair rent for that property?

Actually, I've just learned that the UN does not pay rent, it owns the land (a little over 17 acres on the East River).  The land was bought by John D. Rockefeller who donated it to the UN. It enjoys extraterritoriality through a treaty with the US government, which means that it is not subject to the laws of the US government, NY State or the NYC Municipality. So good luck pushing it away.

One important consideration. The US must provide at least the minimum amount to enable it to maintain its veto at the Security Council.

AS far as I'm concerned they can get the hell out. Full eviction.

It's like having the enemy in your own back yard...

They can move to Paris, or better yet Moscow....

Ineffective and corrupt are the two words that come to mind whenever you discuss the U.N.  When the head of the organization's children are implicated in schemes to get rich by going around the U.N......when the U.N. is exposed as a 'Sex for Food' ring........

And we get to pay for it.  And take shots from tin pot dictators on our own soil.  yeah, time to move it elsewhere.

I'm for ditching the UN. It is UNnecessary, Unuseful, Unbeneficial, and a waste of expensive waterfront east side property.

There should be a global organization that can provide co-ordinated peacekeeping force and humanitarian relief for the constant man made and natural disasters around the world.

The UN should be reformed but not necessarily ended.

If so it should be funded by volunteer donations not by tax money. It steals from one and gives to another and that is immoral.

It is time we stopped funding the globalist organization that is an enemy in our own back yard and is against what the United States stands for.   If every country doesn't pony in the same amount, it needs to be abolished.  Pay 1/10th and get as much of a say as everyone else is BS it should have been disbanded long ago.
