Parler Gains over 5 Million Followers amid Big Tech Censorship, Election Coverage
“Over 5 million individuals were active on Parler yesterday, an 8-fold increase from daily activity just a week ago,” Matze noted. “Our session activity has increased by well over 20 times during the same period. “Facebook and Twitter's suppression of election information was a catalyst, causing many people to lose their trust," he added. "But the movement away from these platforms was already well underway.

It’s about time!  Soon social media will be as segregated as the other media is.  Parler is great news for Christians and conservatives weary about being 2nd class citizens on line.  Parler will soon be to social media what Fox News used to be to the lamestream media.

Parler Gains over 5 Million Followers amid Big Tech Censorship, Election Coverage

Many conservatives and Trump supporters are opting for the conservative-leaning social networking platform called Parler as an alternative to Twitter and Facebook due to the latter two’s increasing censorship and suppression of free speech, CBN News reports.

Launched in 2018, Parler is described as a “free speech” platform that supports equality and religious freedom.

In the past week alone, the platform saw a surge of downloads following the 2020 election as its users feel like Twitter, Facebook and the mainstream media have unfairly called the election in favor of Joe Biden.

On Tuesday, Parler CEO John Matze wrote a letter as he thanked the Parler community for joining the platform in massive numbers.

Many of you have been activists alongside us, calling out the lack of transparency and unjust, biased policies of our competitors, as part of the Twexit and Erasebook campaigns we launched earlier this year."

Due to increasing big tech censorship throughout the year, many conservatives, pro-lifers and White House affiliates are flocking to Parler.

Prior to the 2020 election, CBN News reported that an advertisement put out by the pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony List had been censored by Facebook, despite the factual content presented within the ad.

One of the lines of the ad reads, "Biden and Harris support abortion up to the moment of birth, all at taxpayer expense. And they promise to nominate only pro-abortion judges."

Last month, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany claimed that Twitter locked her account until she deleted a tweet of a New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings.

Donald Trump Jr. had also been restricted by Twitter over the summer after sharing a video about COVID-19 and medical interventions.

As of Thursday morning, Parler topped the list of free apps on Apple's mobile app store.

With many conservatives and Donald Trump backers in a lather over heightened scrutiny of Facebook and Twitter posts during election season, social media startup Parler is emerging as a fast-growing alternative.

The Henderson, NV-based company, founded in 2018 by computer programmers John Matze and Jared Thomson, says its membership swelled to about 8 million from 4.5 million in just the past week. Parler’s app is the No. 1 download in the Apple iOS and Android stores, according to measurement firm Sensor Tower. Other social media players like Gab or MeWe have similarly benefited from conservative angst about Silicon Valley’s so-called “censorship,” but Parler’s gains have been the most significant of any alternative outlet to date....

Conservative group launches website to battle big tech companies over online censorship

‘Every platform in Silicon Valley today is censoring conservatives,’ Brent Bozell said

The Media Research Center has launched CensorTrack, a website dedicated to #FreeSpeechAmerica, a campaign designed to fight online censorship of conservatives.

“Our position is that if they can do it to the president of the United States, they can do it to anyone, and in fact that is exactly what is happening... every platform in Silicon Valley today is censoring conservatives,” MRC founder and president Brent Bozell told attendees of a virtual launch event on Sept. 17....

Frankly, Donald Trump was begging to be censored! Anyone who thinks making a buck is worth all the lies, . . .deserves each other, off in a corner, away on their own little chunk of society. It is all we can ask for is people to want to live out the truth and not 'error'!

No, that describes those left behind on mainstream social media.  We created an alternative to the mainstream media and we have alternative civil rights groups, legal rights groups, women’s rights groups, medical science organizations, environmental science organizations, economic rights organizations, alternatives to Wikipedia and MBFC,  new retirement associations, separate education systems, and now social media alternatives.  We will not conform to gate keepers who regulate what of us they will consent to tolerate or allow on their platforms.  We will create an alternative of our own and totally and completely  enshrine two separate America’s that live our lives and communicate totally irrespective of the other.  Biden’s seeming election and the intolerance of the social media and their gatekeepers have assured that the separation is accelerating.

Because Parler was designed as a free speech response to Twitter, many conservatives banned or purged by other platforms have flocked to the new social media company which has roughly 1.5 million users. John Matze and Jared Thompson launched Parler in 2018, as a sort of stripped down version of Twitter with a chronological feed (unlike the algorithms now used by Twitter and others)

Unlike Twitter, which is often hostile to President Donald Trump, Parler has attempted to court him and reserved a handle for him in case he decides to join the platform. In June 2020, after Twitter took further steps to suppress his tweets (through fact-checking and warnings) Trump threatened to pack it in and shift to Parler, although he hasn’t yet.

Although the platform is open to all, conservatives angered by online censorship joined first and currently make up a majority of voices on Parler. “The whole company was never intended to be a pro-Trump thing,” Matze told CNBC. “A lot of the audience is pro-Trump. I don't care. I'm not judging them either way.”

Matze supports defeating bad ideas through dialogue instead of censorship and criticized other tech companies for controlling content through curation and moderation of content. He says his platform is different and without content bias, although there are some rulesgoverning conduct.

“There are going to be no fact checkers. You’re not going to be told what to think and what to say. A police officer isn’t going to arrest you if you say the wrong opinion,” he told Forbes. “I think that’s all people want.”

  • Parler CEO John Matze told Fox Business: “There is no censorship of any kind. We do have clear rules about violence, any illegal activity — anything that you couldn’t do in public, you couldn’t do on Parler — but there is no ideological censorship or ideological bias of any kind. People on the left, people on the right — everybody [is] welcome to the site. And I think that’s what makes it such a great community. People understand that this is a place where everybody can have a discussion.”
  • Conservative podcast and YouTube host Dan Bongino became a Parler partner with an ownership stake in the company. He has called it “the social media alternative to the tech tyrants which have declared war against conservatism, liberty, and everything we stand for.”
  • Conservative commentator Candace Owens was an early adopter of Parler as was conservative, Jewish activist Laura Loomer. Loomer joined Parler after being permanently banned by Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, CNET reported. Owens also joined after Twitter booted her.
  • Other conservatives on Parler include former Rep. Ron Paul, Rep. Devin Nunes, the Trump campaign, Epoch Times, Daily Caller and Washington Times and the NRA.
  • Parler has been criticized for banning trolling leftists as a failure to uphold free speech values. The company defended the decision, citing spamming on unrelated issues with profanity and threats to kill are not allowed.

No doubt they'll be censoring liberal and progressive views and opinions.

I really don't have a dog in this fight considering I've never used Facebook and will never use 'Parler Tricks' which is obviously where gullible minds gather like little brainless sheep off to get sheered. No doubt vendors will be selling the fuck out of Trump swag and other mind-numbingly stupid conservative kitsch. It's no doubt going to sheer a lot of dough from those morons which I guess is no skin off my nose, but I find it rather hilarious but sad that many religious conservatives refuse to pay into programs that help the poor, homeless and elderly, but they can't wait to spend the little money they have on a dozen overpriced "Trump that Bitch" T-shirts.

If there is a Christian over there displaying such vulgarity, they do not represent God. I may clown a great deal and I may get poisonously impatient with Donald Trump and some of his surrogates around these parts, but I always remember the fruits of the Spirit. Thus, I stay off the 'edge' for fear of stepping off too far.

NOTE: Yes, I have taken to calling Donald Trump, "Trumphole" because he has demonstrated a propensity to dismiss, disregard, and wholly diminish those 'mericans whom he feel are 'not worthy of his attention. He deserves the pointed 'recognition' of being a 'Trumphole.'

It's on me. It is for a reason, nevertheless. Donald TRUMP goes out of his way - way out - to use some of the citizenry of this country as his 'toilet.'

I don't think it's an advertisement, it's News. It's news because Facebook and Twitter's censorship is news and this directly relates to that. I never heard of Parler but I knew some social media platform would benefit from Facebook and Twitter's censorship. I don't use any of these sites and I never have, I was on Newsvine then I came here that's it. Facebook and Twitter think they are so ingrained in American life that they can't be toppled but I'm sure Myspace once thought the same thing. People like freedom and any site that offers a good experience with freedom will do well with people of all political and religious affiliations. Some people might like to exist in an echo chamber but I think most people want to hear different opinions and points of view and yes even an outlandish conspiracy theory or two or maybe somebody's crazy flat earth theory. Tell me who doesn't slow down to look at a Car Wreck.

So, who is D. Van Zandt?  According to his Facebook page, he’s an Anarchist who lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, who is originally from Lafayette, New Jersey.  He’s the owner of VanZandt Webs and attended William Paterson University of New Jersey.  He also is attributed as the developer of his website app, which also lists his home address of 2710 Hill N. Dale Dr. in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he lives with his second wife, Filiz, whom he married after divorcing his first wife.

Apparently, he believes we are a Democracy, not a Republic.

So, understand that this man is not biased at all.  He has a political viewpoint and rather than dealing fairly, it seems he picked up the list from the looney professor that listed “fake news” sites to begin his new career.

Sadly, there are a plethora of sites pending review on his website, and most of them are considered “right wing.” The disproportionate numbers of right wing sites to left wing is enough to make anyone question what the bias is of MBFC.  One wonders who is actually funding this outfit.  After all, the site claims, “We are transparent about our funding sources. If we accept funding from other organizations, we ensure that funders have no influence over the conclusions we reach in our reports.”  I haven’t seen any links to see funders, but would be happy to take a look.

Van Zandt claims, “Neither we nor any third parties provide any warranty or guarantee as to the accuracy, timeliness, performance, completeness or suitability of the information and materials found or offered on this website for any particular purpose. You acknowledge that such information and materials may contain inaccuracies or errors and we expressly exclude liability for any such inaccuracies or errors to the fullest extent permitted by law.”

Really?  He thinks he can libel people and not be held liable.  To make sure we didn’t miss the point, he adds, “Your use of any information or materials on this website is entirely at your own risk, for which we shall not be liable.”

Well, if one person passes on a lie from people who claim others are lying and they are telling the truth, is that not still libel?  Indeed, it is.  Van Zandt is only kidding himself here.

Finally, in a list of methodology, MBFC claims, “MBFC News recognizes that Politifact, Fact Check and Snopes do a fantastic job fact checking major claims. We feel our role is to check claims that perhaps have been bypassed.  We will occasionally select our own fact-checks to research, but primarily rely on submissions from users of our website.”

That right there should tell you everything you need to know about where Van Zandt and his volunteers are coming from.  They rely on people who distort the truth and have a liberal bent, such as Snopes, who hire dominatrixes and former porn stars and hookers to do their “fact checking.”

If MBFC did so poorly with FreedomOutpost.com, what do you think they have done with your favorite media outlet?

Did you even check to see if it is rated by MBFC?

It doesn't appear to be, or even on their radar.

Sites that use so called fact checker gatekeepers to control content are the ones that create dual echo chambers for each side there when balance is lost and elsewhere when said censorship methods vastly impact one one sides beliefs and viewpoints much more so than the others.  With the big tech social media it’s already begun and Parler is riding the first big wave of it.  Conservatives and Christians are simply leaving sites that rely on so called independent fact checking gatekeepers to content control our viewpoints for more fair minded places that don’t do that to us.

John Matze, the CEO of the rising social media platform Parler, told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Tuesday the app has experienced a “massive explosion in growth” throughout the year as more users bail on bigger rivals “where moderation seems to be the norm.”

“We are seeing a massive explosion in growth because people trust that Parler is going to do the right thing,” Matze told Carlson.

Matze’s comments came after Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, along with Twitter founder and boss Jack Dorsey, provided remote testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee over allegations that the social media giants coordinate with big tech rival Google, to make content moderation decisions.

“So, as opposed to these other companies where moderation seems to be the norm, on Parler we have a community jury,” Matze explained. “This is where the people decide what is allowed and what’s not allowed.”

Facebook, and especially Twitter, are coming under renewed fire following fresh allegations of censorship ahead of the 2020 election. In particular, Twitter is facing backlash from President Donald Trump’s supporters after the platform labeled or removed more than 50 of his tweets since Election Day.

The labeling by both platforms who largely employ left-leaning workers has reignited charges of overt censorship from conservatives. But Matze says Parler is different because the user community decides what they do and do not support.

“You are judged by your peers just like our government allows for people,” he said. “You are innocent before proven guilty, unlike these other platforms that are colluding to, I guess, find things to find you guilty for.”

He said that users on Parler are “liberated from restrictions” and free to post their views and ideas.

“We just want to sit back and say ‘social media was supposed to be about the people. It was supposed to be about people having a free voice, being able to be, you know, liberated from restrictions,'” Matze told Carlson. “And so that’s what we are here to offer is a community town square for people to have discussions.”....

fair use" allows for the discussion of anything on the internet.

Fair use  is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed  use  of  copyright -protected works in certain circumstances. ... Nature of the  copyrighted  work: This factor analyzes the degree to which the work that was  used  relates to  copyright's  purpose of encouraging creative expression.

It does not mean you can misrepresent material, use it in total, or take it for use of your own.

Purpose and character of the use, including whether the use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes :  Courts look at how the party claiming fair use is using the copyrighted work, and are more likely to find that nonprofit educational and noncommercial uses are fair.  This does not mean, however, that all nonprofit education and noncommercial uses are fair and all commercial uses are not fair; instead, courts will balance the purpose and character of the use against the other factors below.  Additionally, “transformative” uses are more likely to be considered fair.  Transformative uses are those that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use of the work.

But Parler may turn out to be, in the end, a false refuge. First — sorry, folks — Parler does censor. It removes users , regularly. It does not actually seem to tolerate hate speech , and because it’s a much smaller platform, it might even be more efficient in finding and exorcising it than the social giants. Oh, and the founders really, really don’t like trolling . This includes the sort of trolling that feeds the outrage cycles on Twitter, the trolling that includes scatology and expletives and “unrelated comments.” Also, dog poop. Parler doesn’t like dog poop .

The media is not set up to deal with an entire political machine that has no interest in agreeing to a basic set of rules.

The point is, Parler does not actually face what it has set itself up to welcome — furious, beleaguered, anxious conservatives who want to find an online community that grants them some esteem and will fill a narrative void in their life.

The ultimate endorsement of smaller news and social media sites:

TRANSCRIPT PROVIDED VIA CNN:

PAMELA BROWN, CNN REPORTER: Instead of publicly focusing on the pandemic or stimulus or the presidential transition, today President Trump is taking on FOX News. As you see here, retweeting days-old replies, bashing the channel, and suggesting that FOX is to blame for his defeat.

Joining me now, CNN chief medica correspondent, Brian Stelter, anchor of “RELIABLE SOURCES.”

Brian, this country is in a crisis now, looking at the coronavirus alone. Why is the president doing this? Why is he focused on FOX in the midst of what this country is going through right now?

BRIAN STELTER, CNN REPORTER: He is tweeting more about FOX News than about COVID. It shows his five stages of grief. And it signals he is still in the anger phase. He is angry at FOX.

And so are some of FOX’s loyal viewers. They’re angry FOX called Arizona for Biden early on. They’re angry FOX has rightly identified Biden as the president-elect. And so Trump and some of his fans are lashing out on social media.

Pamela, this has always been a marriage of convenience between Rupert Murdoch and Donald Trump. It’s always been a marriage of convenience. Certainly, both sides are saying hurtful words now, but it is still a marriage. Trump may be threatening to see other people, but it is still a marriage.

Trump is promoting Sean Hannity, sharing clips that he likes on FOX. It is complicated. And divorce could be down the road, but not yet.

BROWN: Right. He seems to like the opinion hosts —

STELTER: Yes.

BROWN: — like Sean Hannity more than the actual straightforward news journalists. You’re tracking other right-wing media outlets. What patterns are you seeing among voters?

STELTER: When I refer to a divorce, that’s because there are other suitors out there.

There are these smaller right-wing channels, like “Newsmax” and “One America News,” that are further to the right than FOX News. And Trump is promoting those channels right now.

“Newsmax” has seen an extraordinary surge in viewership. Still a lot lower than CNN or FOX. But this is a channel that had 50,000 viewers before the election. Now sometimes a half million viewers. There’s clearly an audience for a channel that’s so far right that they deny Biden is the president-elect, that they promote voter fraud innuendo all day long. So some FOX fans are going off to other channels instead.

It is possible, after Inauguration Day, that Trump may do the same, whether he wants to launch a streaming service, host a radio show or go off to a channel like “Newsmax.”

There continues to be a lot of chatter about what his future media platform might be. Could he end up with a show on FOX News? It is not out of the realm of possibility. But there are definitely other options for the outgoing president. That’s something to really keep an eye on.

I think, big picture, Pamela, here is the concerning trend line here. People are going more and more into their own echo chambers, more into their own bubbles, especially Trump voters.

There’s this new social media app, called Parler, getting a lot of attention. Because conservatives are leaving, saying they’re leaving Twitter and Facebook, going off to Parler because they believe Parler is a safer space for them.

What we’re seeing is even more of a bunker mentality in right-wing media. Ultimately, that’s not good for the country.

BROWN: No, it is not good. It is a threat to democracy that these people are in echo chambers and they’re getting fed a diet of lies essentially.

STELTER: Lies, that’s what it is. Thanks.

BROWN: Yes. Brian Stelter, thank you so much.

Talk Christianity properly .

Incidentally this:

Evangelical pastor Robert Jeffress, a longtime Christian supporter of Trump, called on his followers to accept Biden's victory

It takes the form of consistency over and beyond inconsistency to do that. Moreover, Biden is no Trump; he is a good man.

Let me be blunt: When somebody explains what is about to occur to yourselves is a convening of a swarm around the lips of a sewer drain—don't do it. God's people ought not to be counted with those others having "itching ears" or "strong delusions." God's people are people of high integrity who 'pine' after God, Jesus, and Spirit. God's people are never 'fallen' after the carnal delights of any reprobate and unrepentant man or woman.

I will not bite my tongue when I write this: Consider your ways. Our God is not mocked. God showed you and yours for four years what kind of "king" would rule over you and God pulled the "kingdom" away from Donald Trump for his arrogance, belligerence, and selfishness.

Parler CEO John Matze called Facebook’sreported “secret internal algorithm” Orwellian on Wednesday.

Sponsored

Matze made the comment during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” while reacting to a report in The New York Times Tuesday titled, “Facebook Struggles to Balance Civility and Growth.”

Citing people familiar with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s decision, the report alleged he changed the platform’s algorithm following the 2020 election to highlight outlets like CNN, NPR and The New York Times, which “resulted in a spike in visibility” for the “big, mainstream publishers.” The change reportedly caused “posts from highly engaged hyperpartisan pages, such as Breitbart and Occupy Democrats” to become “less visible” in news feeds.

“Parler believes that people should make the determination for themselves what they think is hyperpartisan or they believe in and what they’d like to follow and they can choose on their own on Parler what they’d like to get engaged with,” Matze said in response.

“So for me, this kind of Facebook secret internal algorithm thing is kind of Orwellian,” alluding to the dystopian reality depicted in George Orwell's novel "1984."

He noted Parler believes “in having a simple chronological algorithm that allows people to filter out and determine what they want to view and I think that’s the best way.”

“I don’t think any of us likes hyperpartisan content,” Matze said. “And so when people can decide on their own what they believe is within the norms of society and what they want to talk about, we should let them choose on their own.”

In a statement responding to The New York Times report, Facebook spokesperson Joe Osborne said Tuesday, “There are many variables at play in every product decision we make, all aimed at creating the best possible experience for people

“The assertions in this report are based on sources who have no product decision-making authority and are advancing their own narrow impression of how our process works,” Osborne continued.

Host Brian Kilmeade asked Matze on Wednesday how Parler operates as a platform that “doesn’t care” about political affiliations.

“We do that by standing by our values and not getting involved and not ranking media outlets based of off some kind of internal perception,” Matze said.

“We don’t pretend to be experts about the news or pretend to be experts about fact-checking,” he explained. “We just offer people a platform and let everybody else decide what they want and what they want to engage with and I think that’s the right way to do it.”

He stressed that the company sticks “to what we know, which is social media” and “delivering content that you asked for and doing it in a way that’s not biased.”

He went on to say that “there’s no way” that “getting into this kind of business of checking people’s news articles for potential bias” will be fair.
