Coronavirus Live Updates: As Governors Look to Reopen, Trump Encourages Anti-Restriction Protests
In a series of all-caps tweets, Mr. Trump declared “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!” and “LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” — two states whose Democratic governors have imposed social distancing restrictions that have shut down businesses and schools and forced people to remain at home. He also tweeted “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!”

At least 6,900 of the virus deaths in the U.S. are connected to nursing homes. Epidemiologists expect resurgent waves of infection that could last into 2022.

Right Now

President Trump posted tweets openly fomenting protests of virus restrictions in three states with Democratic governors, less than a day after advising governors to “call your own shots” on reopening.

Here’s what you need to know:

Trump tweets to “LIBERATE” states where people are protesting virus restrictions.

President Trump on Friday began openly fomenting right-wing protests of social distancing restrictions in states where groups of his conservative supporters have been violating stay-at-home orders, less than a day after announcing guidelines for how governors could decide on an orderly reopening of their communities.

In a series of all-caps tweets, Mr. Trump declared “ LIBERATE MICHIGAN !” and “ LIBERATE MINNESOTA !” — two states whose Democratic governors have imposed social distancing restrictions that have shut down businesses and schools and forced people to remain at home. He also tweeted “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!”

Mr. Trump’s tweets were a remarkable example of a president egging on demonstrators. Earlier this week, more than 1,000 protesters organized by conservative groups created a traffic jam on the streets around the State Capitol in Lansing, Mich., to complain that the restrictions were bad for small businesses. Other protesters, not in vehicles, waved banners in support of Mr. Trump and protested Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who has been a target of his ire, by chanting, “Lock her up.”

In St. Paul, Minn., a group calling itself “Liberate Minnesota” held a protest Friday in violation of stay-at-home orders in front of the home of Gov. Tim Walz. Hundreds showed up, according to news reports . The group’s Facebook page says that “now is the time to demand Governor Walz and our state legislators end this lock down!”

Mr. Trump’s tweets began just moments after a Fox News report by Mike Tobin, a reporter for the network, about protests in Minnesota and elsewhere. The report featured a protester from Virginia saying “those of us who are healthy and want to get out of our house and do business, we need to get this going again. It’s time.”

Ms. Whitmer had emerged as a critic — and a target — of Mr. Trump before his calls to liberate the state. “Right now the governor is focused on saving lives and protecting Michigan families,” a spokeswoman for the governor said on Friday. “As the governor has said, we’re not going to reopen Michigan’s economy via tweet.”

And when Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia was asked about the president’s comment at a virus news briefing Friday, he said: “I do not have time to involve myself in Twitter wars.”

The message of support for those efforts from Mr. Trump is radically different from the one he delivered from the White House on Thursday evening. During a briefing for reporters, the president unveiled guidelines that governors could use to decide when it was safe to phase out restrictions to minimize the chance of a resurgence of the dangerous pathogen.

“We are not opening all at once, but one careful step at a time,” Mr. Trump said Thursday after telling governors earlier in the day that “you’re going to call your own shots.”

When he was asked about the protesters during Thursday’s briefing, the president expressed sympathy for the plight of people who are affected by the restrictions, saying that “it’s been a tough process for people. You know, I told you this: There’s death and there’s problems in staying at home too. It’s not just, ‘Isn’t it wonderful to stay at home?’ They’re having — they’re suffering.”

But he ducked the question of whether he would urge the protesters to listen to local authorities, adding that “I think they’re listening. I think they listen to me. They seem to be protesters that like me and respect this opinion. And my opinion is the same as just about all of the governors.”

The president’s decision to embrace the protests may be good politics for him. While large majorities of the country — including Republicans — are concerned about the dangers of reopening the country too quickly, that may not be the case for his most fervent supporters. Among very conservative voters, sixty-five percent said they were more worried about reopening too slowly, according to a Pew Research Center poll released on Thursday.

I keep hearing liberals screech about confederate flags being flown at the rally In Michigan, but I have seen a large amount of footage of the rally but never spotted one. Maybe you can show some video of your claim...and make sure the video, or whatever you show, is really from the Michigan protest.

As for the Michigan Proud Boys, I would think that anyone with half a brain would condemn them on the spot. They are a far-right neo fascists group that promotes political violence.

You have been nothing but reasonable and a gentleman since you have been on the site. As a non partisan, I have not really spoken out much about Trump. He won the election fair and square and although I didn't like him in particular, I was dealing with at least 4 years. And I also agree with you that both sides paint with a broad brush.

But today's tweets were just over the top, especially given all the misery this disease has given us. To use it as political fodder is unforgivable.

Our words mean something. I think that is one thing we can all agree with.

He is supposed to be the person who has the dignity to lead and keep the country together during a terrible situation. If you can't see the difference, I can't explain it. And for the record, both parties have been using this as political fodder, but for the most part, our governors of both parties have not. As I see it, Trump's desperate.  He sees Biden's numbers overtaking his, and he will stoop to the lowest level to try to rescue the possibility of his re-election.  He will continue to point fingers, blame, stir up partisan conflict, seek headlines from his actions like blaming the WHO,and that since that didn't get a big enough bang he defunded the WHO (thinking that made him an "America First" hero), and if he loses enough support with his conflict with the governors who are fighting for the health of their constituents I woudn't be surprised if he were stupid enough to invade China. I don't think he will, because he probably knows that most of his supporters haven't installed their fallout shelters yet.

I just read it said stores cannot advertise certain things. Almost impossible. They would have to stop most commercials from airing.

Also landscaping being barred. I would think, what about maybe an elderly couple that rely on a service to have their yard mowed and trimmed.

The rest of it sounds like everywhere else.

Do you think that the UP wants people to come there and 'share'?

The Department of Natural Resources   on Friday said the ban   on motorized boats was an attempt to "reduce the movement of, and contact among, people" to slow the virus spread.

"The DNR has received many reports about heavy use of boat launches across the state and the subsequent congregation of people at these launches in violation of social distancing requirements, and in a manner that threatens public health," the DNR wrote on its website Friday.

I wouldn’t bet on it.

As for the VP slot, she had no idea how people were going to react.    Virtually no one had a problem until she came up with Whitmer 2.0.

We can agree that she misjudged her electorate very badly on that one.    Perhaps because she was encouraged by the lack for reaction to 1.0.    Who knows.

How could she have no idea? Even here in NY, the worst hit state in the nation we don't have these regulations. So that now makes her toxic. And I don't think it was because of 1.0. Cuomo has had the same standing rules and is trying to think of ways to get us out of this as quickly as possible. I think she got her panties in a twist when she asked for 70 days and her legislature said no, and I don't blame them. This is a see as you go situation.

I feel bad for you folks. What she did is just nuts.

All I can say is that it's lucky that all the snowflakes whining about not being able to use their motorized boats or buy booze or of all things paint, weren't around during WWII when restrictions and rationing effected every American for YEARS.

No lights visible at night, gas rationing, NO tires or meat or, or, or.

It isn't surprising that my mom looks as the 'stay at home' order as just another bump in the road. She's been through FAR worse.

It's coming out into the world of ignorant or just plain stupid morons trying to pretend that they're invincible, while threatening the lives of everyone they come in contact with that worries her.

Perhaps the DNR in NY didn't call the Governor to tell him that morons all over the state were hanging out at the boat ramps, shooting the shit and ignoring the social distancing protocol.

Or maybe NY has enough DNR deputies to police every boat ramp in the state to ensure that morons don't put people at risk.

There are local reasons for the specific orders, just as there are local reasons to start  opening up earlier than NY or even NYC.

We are dreading the fact that my wife will be required to go back to work on May 1st. If she refuses, we loose our insurance. Both of us are over 60 and have underlying conditions. We know for a fact that her employer won't be furnishing N95 masks. Surgical masks don't protect the wearer. We doubt that her employer or the state will require customers to wear masks. In February, on any given Saturday, there were 1000 people at her place of employment. They have 5 restaurants and also have live entertainment and hold concerts and sporting events.

No worries...

Well Gee if only that was the reason she disallowed it but it isn't. She banned it because people have to get gas, You have to buy gas to go to the park and walk as she suggest. She banned lawn maintenance because they have to buy gas. her excuses not mine. It's nice of you to way in on something you obviously know nothing about.

Oh and BTFW you can still launch your row boat or your kayaks at launches just not motorized so obviously people congregating didn't have a damn thing to do with it.

So how do they get on the lake for Christ sakes. I know some people think they can just violate peoples personal property to fulfill their needs but that isn't what most people feel that live around the lake, hence why they would have a boat launch. How the hell you think you access a river? just walk thru someone's backyard, that is the whole purpose of launch sites so you can have access to lakes and rivers with your kayaks, canoes, rowboats or even the banned motorized boat.

Give up already.

Great for Mayor Curry. There are quite a few restrictions when opening these beaches and they are only open a total of I think 7 or 8 hours, when sunbathing is not ideal, and towels, coolers, chairs are not allowed. You can fish, but you have to stand while doing it. No putting a stake in the sand to hold your pole then chill in a chair.

Also, no more than 10 people and you still have to abide by social distancing.

If you fail to comply with the rules, first infraction is educating, second is a warning and third could be a ticket or arrest.

Mayor Curry and the beach mayors are doing this right. Slowly and methodologically.

Remember how New Yorkers, New Jersey and Connecticut made a beeline for Florida when those states closed down?  Also, in order to not count the same person twice, there is a good chance the state where the person came from is counting the death, so Florida does not need to.

During the governor's brief today, he specifically said that if the beach cities want to open, they have to meet certain criteria and keep certain restrictions in place. I believe St John's county is opening tomorrow but only from something like 6am to noon and no afternoon times.

He did mention that there was discussion of Broward, Miami and Palm Beach opening sometime but he said they are nowhere near ready since they are the biggest percentage of cases in the state, and that is where most of the spring breakers went (came from other states) to possibly cause their numbers to rise.

Yes, St. John's county is opening tomorrow with restrictions.

As for the southern beaches, I have a number of friends from Port Saint Lucy to Miami and at this point, none of them want the beaches open.

There were a large number of spring breakers at the Tampa Bay beaches, many from Texas and the last I heard I think it was 10 that tested positive.

Floridians are smart enough to know when not to do something stupid. If a mayor decides to open a beach and the population does not think it is a good idea then n o one will go as an overabundance of caution.

I have a sister that lives in Palm Beach and she said there is no way they are ready to open anything.

However, my mom lives with my little sister in Callahan. My sis ter put her in quarantine about a month ago and my mom is itching to drive to West Virginia to visit her sister. I give her another week and she is gone.

Did the english language CCP channel tell you that only the elderly are allowed to go to the beach?

Maybe they did not inform you of the restrictions in place to ensure the safety of everyone. No sitting on the beach, no coolers, no chairs, only walking, biking or fishing while standing. Florida beaches are not little squares that fit only a few people. The city where these beaches are openinig is a city of about 700,000 and is the largest city in area in the country.

There is plenty of room to ensure social distancing. In addition, the elderly know how to make their own decisions, unlike in China where their decisions are made for them, so if they don't feel safe, they will not go out.

I just read the new Fox News article on the opening of the Jacksonville Beach, and saw a number of photos in it but could hardly see an elderly person among the crowds.  Not only that, NOBODY was wearing a mask.  I did read there what the imposed restricitons were.  I hope that those restrictions are complied with and that they work out for you.

I'll bet there are some NT members who are really surprised that I access and read Fox News here.  Contrary to their belief, I don't live in a government-imposed cocoon.

Let me ask you this...

If the truth truly does come out, with scientific evidence backed up by many countries, that the virus may or may not have gotten out of the Wuhan lab and a poor sap unknowingly took it to the wet market where he/she infected many other people, and the Chinese government covered it up for months, would you finally agree that the US and Trump was right in their accusations?

Why did China shut down Wuhan from the rest of China but let those citizens continue to travel around the world?

Open air...on a beach...with a nice breeze blowing. Everybody there was keeping the 6 foot distance with the exception of those that are couples or families, but if any of them had the virus, they would probably had passed it to the others already.

One of the stories here on local web sit has a picture at 6pm when the beach was closed and 9 minutes later. Jacksonville citizens are abiding by the rules given by the mayor and will continue to do so.

Part of solidifying that base is what he is doing about the virus. Attacking blue state governors, giving preferred attention to red state governors. He is pretty blatant about it because he knows Americans are largely apathetic.

The sick irony is that Trump's refusal to help with testing = less testing and in some cases a lowering of the rise in "new cases".

How the hell does Trump expect the state health labs, which are notoriously underfunded, to test MILLIONS more Americans? Perhaps he doesn't and that plays into his 'see it's disappearing' talking points.

There is nothing new about any of this.  I wrote an article 4 or 5 days ago saying that Trump would talk out of both sides of his mouth about this. His number one thing in life, other than conning people out of money, is to avoid blame. Since he is a malignant narcissist it only makes sense that in his mind he must always be blameless.

IF he were to either take strong actions as president and it failed to properly address the pandemic OR if he did nothing and things went bad , he might be blamed.  His course in his diseased mind is to walk down both sides of the street at once.

He wants any credit that might come from fighting the virus without any chance of blame. He wants a win win for himself.  He cant take the lead and have a win win set up.

He laid the responsibility on the governors yesterday afternoon, washed his hands of responsibility you might say, and less than 24 hours later he is on twitter promoting the opposite of what the governors want to do .

He's not for for office. Hopefully enough people on NT will admit that by election day, which will be the last chance to get rid of him.

It is nice to see people here put him down though. Its past time.

Exactly what it means. Blue states are being far more restrictive than they probably need to be. People don't like to be told they can't go into a wal mart and are not able to purchase a lawn mower because the governor does not think you need it.

free (a country, city, or people) from enemy occupation.

In this case, their governors.

I'm not aware of the exact extent of the restrictions that have been imposed, but I believe that generally, people are being told to stay home, and only one person from a household is designated to leave the home for the purpose of purchasing necessities such as food and medicines but following the mask and social distance guidelines, and careful washing on return.  That is what we did where we are for more than two months, and we did not become infected.  I assume that you feel that it is too great a limitation of your sacred freedom.

Really? So the Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware in Grand Rapids are not shut down? That is news to their employees.  You might want to talk to them.  I know a few because we deliver loads to there, and none of them are receiving product now.  We are at least allowed to drop containers/trailers in their parking lot to avoid yard storage charges. They will still be stuck with per diem/detention charges on the equipment; guess it sucks to be them. Their employees are not happy with Whitless.

Office Depot really didn't cancel an order for a new desk for my home office because they were deemed non-essential, and can't home deliver anymore?  They promised to get my order to me as soon as restrictions were lifted.  Unfortunately I will be back working at the regular office then; and won't have time to reorganize and assemble a new desk. So I canceled the order. Sucks for both of us- it was an expensive desk.

Walmart, Meijers, and other chains haven't blocked off areas that do not sell food, under pain of fines from the governor, if they sell anything outside of food.

Gardening/plant stores are not shut down either right? Which is the reason that people are upset they can't get seeds and plants for spring planting. Hell they can still order seeds online from outside of Michigan at least; so everything is good. That is if they get the seeds in time for planting; and before quarantine is lifted and they will either be back at work trying to make up for lost time; or spending all of their time looking for a new job.

So tell us what part of Michigan do you live in. When was the last time you were out trying to buy anything outside of food?

For me it was last Monday at Meijers; where I got to experience first hand their taped off areas for goods they could not sell; hell they didn't even have lights on in those areas. Not sure if we will have a victory garden or not this year. Of course most of that food was eaten by the neighborhood critters- so I guess things will be tough for them as well.

The same people have tried to tell me what the Florida governor is thinking and what they think he has done wrong without pointing out what their own governor may or may not have done right from a thousand miles away. When you show them how wrong they are they go straight to trying to argue something you never said.

It really is starting to become tiring showing how wrong they constantly are.

Yes, technically they are sovereign nations. The problem is that we are only sovereign nations when it is beneficial to the government. The keyword is that we are designated as ''dependent nations''...

Due to the lack of infrastructure, it's a hard sell to convince service providers to erect cell towers or fiber optics in sparsely populated communities.

There is no bang for the buck to bring in service to one home with they can bring it in for hundreds of homes.

Federal funding is available to encourage internet providers to invest in remote areas of the country, (reservations are not the only parts of American that are underserved in the broadband area). Between 2010 and 2017 less than 1% of the funding from the FCC and the Department of Agriculture, rural utility service has been awarded directly to tribes or service providers owned by tribes.

Of course, there is the interpretation of form 477 that creates even more confusion.

This is a very interesting map showing the difference between rural and urban areas in the broadband arena.

https%3A%2F%2Fblogs-images.forbes.com%2F

In keeping with the changing demands of the economy, the Federal Communications Commission is considering revamping the existing Lifeline program to help the poor log into the majority of society--which is online. The plan goes to a vote on June 18 and if approved, the process to restructure the program to include a broadband subsidy will get underway. The agency releases data about broadband access annually and recently began representing it visually, in the map below. A closer look can be found   here .

One of the major disparities in broadband access is between urban and rural areas. Arizona and Alaska have the largest geographical gap in broadband access, with more than a 7% difference between urban and rural users with access to high speed Internet. “This is calculated by subtracting the percent of the population with access to this speed in rural areas from the percent of the population with access to this speed in urban areas,”   the   FCC   wrote.

They had to order new blocks and I would have to pick them up when in from the parking lot, sometime next week I guess.

In any community actually.

my comment was quite clear that much of rural America has a broadband problem. That is why the FCC and Dept of Ag have been involved in bringing broadband to these areas. It's also clear that there are costs to the provider and that is why I pointed out that federal funding was available but only 1% went directly to tribes or tribal owned internet providers. In many instances, we have invested our funds into providing service so I'm well aware that things cost money and are not free.

The lifeline program goes back to Reagan.

Good morning kavika ,hope all is well with you and yours .speaking as one that lives on the WRIR in Wyoming , I can say that there is NOT a problem with internet acsess on the rez here where I live, matter of fact it is considered BETTER than some of the towns OFF rez , in reliability and as regards to cost, and it is a broadband fiber optic system that the tribes are in charge of .

about the only issue I can see is people choosing not to have it because of cost , my plan is $60 a month has acsess to both the 2.4 g and 5 g systems and its unlimited. They do have less expensive plans , but they go off a different system ie wireless. I had that for about $40 a month until I upgraded to fiber .

I am just waiting for all this to calm down some , and of course am watching my risk factors , so I can head up to Sheridan , and visit my new grand daughter Jemma , born 3/26/2020. being I live less than 4 blocks from one of the clinics where they have done about 20% of all testing in this state , I figure its better safe to give things time and be sure I am not a carrier, thus exposing family to something I do not want to.

Again stay healthy and happy my friend.

Which is the reason that people are upset they can't get seeds and plants for spring planting.

I suggest that they look up the last frost data for their location because as far as I know, the EARLIEST anyone in Michigan should be planting ANYTHING outside is May 10th. The further north you get the latter it gets.

If you ordered from any of the major seed companies in this country, you'd have your seeds in plenty of time. The Garden Centers in MI are ready to rock and role come May 1st. One of my best friends is a designer at a Nursery that I buy specialty plants from every year. Their stuff looks great [they downloaded some video of the greenhouses] and you could wait until then to get your seeds too.

So IMHO, y'all need to find something else to whine about.

Latest from Shasta county in Ca.  (Pop. 185,000) 26 cases and 3 deaths.  2 new cases in last 7 days.  13 completely recovered, 3 hospitalized the rest quarantined at home.  All that died were older and had multiple other conditions.  Our civic/convention center is a temporary hospital but hasn’t remotely been needed so far.

Man, your Democratic governor was right on the money eh? Sounds like he totally fucking nailed it with his management of this pandemic.

It’s our Conservative city council, mayor, and conservative county board of supervisors who had us ready.  According to the Sacramento Bee the counties in the far north east part of the state are the least compliant with the stuff beyond the federal recommendations. Not sure if they are right but we have few cases north of Sacramento and the Bay Area county region.  Humboldt  County with its port city of Eureka I believe has the most cases among the 20 counties north of the Bay Area and Sacramento with around 50 cases.  Likely all potheads.

He has been reporting good news in that respect, but he has cautioned that we are not sure if we are going down or plateauing. It will still take about another week to see if we can go to phase 1. That being said, today he opened the marinas, which I am taking as a positive sign.

Not here in WNY, new cases and deaths keep going up.

Erie County reports 65 new cases of coronavirus, 4 additional deaths

As of Sunday afternoon, Erie County has 2,192 positive cases of COVID-19 and 135 deaths. At this time, 8,292 people have been tested for the virus.

Most of the cases in the county are in females, with 55 percent of cases affecting women, Poloncarz added.

The largest block of cases by age range is 50 to 59 years old, with 16.8 percent of cases in that age range.

Because I have lost a friend and know 7 other people who have not made it, never mind the huge number I personally know that have gotten it and were really sick.

I don't know where you live, but here in NY, it's been hell.

I understand that some places are hit harder. I know here in Michigan, detrout is a war zone. Yet here in my county, there were 50 cases last i checked, and 0 deaths, and my one city has at the very least 30000 people. Thats just 1 city. See my perspective? They have locked down my whole state. A simple drive to my friends house could cost me 1000 dollars according to the facist governor of my state. If they want to implement these kind of authoritarian measures in detroit, fine, makes sense. I choose to live in a rural community becaue i was disgusted by the congested city life to begin with. I sacrifice my proximity to the amenities of big cities to avoid crap like this, and i am still being made to suffer along with people who choose to take that risk. Funny how so many people are supposedly "pro-choice", but if i choose not to let this virus stop my life, i seem to take a lot of judgement for it. Im sorry for anyone who has suffered losses, but the US economy is so much more important than any individual's life. There needs to be an America left when all this panicking is over

OK, first of all, there are no fascists here in the US so stop the hyperbole. I'm gathering you live in Michigan. While I do not agree with your governor's strange rules (I personally think she went overboard), the fact is that what we found in NYS, which is mostly rural, is that because we have freedom of travel, the virus spread upstate, no problem. We have it now in over 10 upstate areas. Being in a rural area is no safety, if the people from your infected areas are allowed to travel, as we have found out in NY. Still, despite what people say about Gov Cuomo, he IS allowing NYers to travel.

Funny how so many people are supposedly "pro-choice", but if i choose not to let this virus stop my life, i seem to take a lot of judgement for it.

I don't understand how you can conflate those two issues. Being pro-choice is a 1:1 relationship while dealing with a pandemic is apparently is more like a 4:1 relationship. So what you do (if you get infected) directly affects 4 other people. Hence the flooding of ill people in the hospitals.

Im sorry for anyone who has suffered losses, but the US economy is so much more important than any individual's life. There needs to be an America left when all this panicking is over

Wow, that is cold. What is your acceptable number for deaths? Are you OK dying for the economy? How many of your loved ones and friends are you willing to give up, or do you just view this as someone else's problem? And anyway, this is not an either-or. We all want to open up. We just have to do it smartly. There will be an economy and my guess because we are all eager to go back to work, I expect it to be pretty quick.

Yes it is going to spread all over the country most likely. There is no stopping it. However more rural cities are likely going to have an easier time dealing with it because we don't have the number of people and we are naturally more socially distanced just the way our cities are laid out. Our medical facilities are not going to get over run, even in bigger cities they are laying off employees due to low volumes of normal patients. My sister who works at st joe's also says it have been slow. She has been on call from low amounts of patients.

"The hospitals, and hospital experts, blame declining revenues from lost patient office visits and postponed medical procedures unrelated to the coronavirus pandemic, such as knee or hip replacements, for the layoffs and pay cuts."

I don't understand how you can conflate those two issues.

I don't see how they are different. Abortion affects more people than just the mother. If you want to continue to use that ridiculous verbiage, that pro-choice only equals a woman's right to have an abortion, than I guess "pro-choice" people are going to have to support a lot of things they likely don't. Choice means choice. Not a woman's choice to have an abortion. I just think it's funny how that is not obvious. My body, my choice. If you don't support my choice, socially distance yourself from me. It's that easy.

Wow, that is cold.

The governor of your own state said these are war time efforts. In war there are causalities. Obviously I don't want anyone to die, I also don't want my country to die. I, being a soldier in this war, am willing to go out and risk my life to continue the American economy. I know I am sounding goofy here but I am actually being serious. I'm a young healthy male with no pre existing conditions living in an area not hard hit by the virus. I am fully willing to go out and risk it. That's just me and I don't believe everyone should, but I am confident I would be fine even if I got it. I think other people self evaluate that, they should have the liberty to keep on going.

As for the person who reportedly yelled go to China.    It falls under my 10% rule.    At least one out of ten in any group is a dumbass.    Branding the entire group because of that one comment makes little sense to me.

If Trump is so eager to "reopen" then by God go and have a rally, take the entire Trump family and have one. If there is no danger then just do it. Trump frequently does not listen to his advisors, so just jump in and go for it. If Trump believed there was no danger he would be out there with them. Coward that he is, he simply stokes animosity and division while avoiding his own base.
