WASHINGTON, Dec 4 (Reuters) - A U.S. congressman on Saturday posted a Christmas picture of himself and what appeared to be his family, smiling and posing with an assortment of guns, just days after four teenagers were killed in a shooting at a Michigan high school.
"Merry Christmas! ps. Santa, please bring ammo," U.S. Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky wrote on Twitter.
Ethan Crumbley, 15, on Tuesday carried out the deadliest U.S. school shooting this year, the latest in a decades-long series of mass shootings at U.S. schools. His parents were arrested on Saturday in connection with the slayings.
Massie, who represents a solidly Republican district, posted the picture of himself and six others holding firearms resembling an M60 machine gun, AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and a Thompson submachine gun.
Some semi-automatic weapons are made to look nearly identical to fully automatic weapons like machine guns. Under U.S. law, weapons like machine guns are restricted to the military, law enforcement and civilians who have obtained special licenses for weapons made before May 1986.
Jonathan van Norman, a campaign manager for Massie, did not immediately reply to a request for comment via Twitter.
Democratic U.S. Representative John Yarmuth, who chairs the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee, condemned his fellow Kentuckian's post.

I buy 3 different kinds of Xmas cards. I have one with bible verses so as to not offend very religious friends and relatives. I have a genetic Hallmark card for almost everyone else. I have an atheist card for the few atheists or people with a twisted sense of humor on my list. People who are under 50 often also receive an E-card via Email or Facebook.
I make my own Christmas cards for my Family and Friends. I make all my own greeting cards, creating each one especially for each person, based upon their own sense of humor or their favorite song, movies, comic, etc. Made using their own names and all signed by 'Santa'.
I have made these greeting cards since my Granddaughter was about 3 y/o, and one year long after she was an adult I sent her a bought one. It was a really great card. She called me up after opening it, crying and asking me if I don't love her anymore. After calming her down I asked her why she was crying and she said it was because I didn't send her one of my special Christmas cards.
I promised I would never send her anything but my special cards I make just for her from then on, and I have kept my promise. And I did it for my Parents as well before they walked on.
They open the cards before they open the presents! They say they can get what I might give them as a present, but, they can't buy their own special Grandma's card. To my surprise, they have collected every card I have ever made for them. I feel very honored.
They are fun for me to make, and fun for them to get.

You make a good argument. My comment was my opinion. I've been wrong before and admit when I am. There was something that happened in the 70's that was the thought for my comment. The daughter of a high ranking public official that was murdered. A song (I don't remember what one) was no longer on the radio due to the content bearing a resemblance to her murder, deeming it insensitive to her family. I miss those days when people cared for the feelings of complete strangers.
I get that people can be triggered by stuff, and I don’t have a problem being sensitive to their responses to a thing like this. If it were my card, I might put out a statement along the lines of, “Look it’s just the usual kind of thing we do in fun for the holidays. We obviously are bothered by the shooting in Michigan, just like everyone else. We are sorry if it upset anybody.” I wouldn’t change it, though.
I think if it upsets people, they should try to avoid it if they can. I mean, this is a Christmas card, not a billboard. It can be avoided.
