If we're punishing politicians for lying about their past, start with Joe Biden

George Santos is a despicable, lying fraud. He's lied about his ethnicity, background, parents, and experience, among other things. If there was anything that could be embellished, George Santos probably did it. His deceit would be comical if it weren't so tragic. Santos should be held accountable with punitive actions for his lies. However, if we are now going to be genuinely outraged and start punishing politicians for lying about their past, we can begin with President Joe Biden.
Biden's lies do not excuse what Santos did in any way. This isn't a case of "whataboutism" or some attempted rationalization predicated on universally applying the same standards for all politicians. Yet, this doesn't change the fact that many Democrats, such as Joe Biden, have their own sordid history regarding what they told voters about their past. And when these Democrats were exposed, other politicians, pundits, and talking heads in the media — basically the same people in a huff about Santos — did not have the same outrage then as they do now. This is particularly concerning since it was not just Biden who lied.
One of the more notable Democrats exposed for lying about their past was Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). In 2018, it was revealed that Warren falsely claimed Native American heritage; she wrote that she was an "American Indian" on a registration card in 1986 for the State Bar of Texas.
Consider Biden's comments about his past. There are so many to choose from it's hard to figure out exactly where to begin.
He wasn't truthful during a recent speech in Florida about the death of his son, Beau. He stated that Beau died while fighting in Iraq.
"They talk about inflation … inflation is a worldwide problem right now because of a war in Iraq and the impact on oil and what Russia's doing. ... Excuse me, the war in Ukraine," the president said. "I'm thinking about Iraq because that's where my son died."
But this was not true.
Biden's first wife tragically died in a car crash with a tractor-trailer in 1972. The wreck also killed his infant daughter. Over the years, Biden claimed, on multiple occasions, that the driver involved in the crash was drunk. However, there wasn't any evidence to support this claim. Moreover, the state official who investigated the accident denied any sobriety issues caused the crash.
Other tall tales told by Biden include his dishonesty about his academic credentials, the number of undergraduate degrees he earned, being arrested in South Africa, being raised in a Puerto Rican community, and interaction with his son Hunter about his business dealings — among many, many more. In fact, it could be legitimately argued that Joe Biden was George Santos before George Santos was.
None of this excuses Santos or lessens his egregious deception. But, the Left's outrage over Santos is as credible as Santos's "Jew-ish" heritage. Rightfully, they criticize Santos. Wrongfully, they ignore Biden's struggles with the truth — a sin they continue to do regularly.

But that's not the only message. And the article certainly does not seek to excuse Santos by means of focusing on hypocrisy. The author explicitly says that he should be condemned. It's right there in the article. In multiple places. All you have to do is read it.

You're making connections that kind of fail logically. Here's what I mean:
First, none of the people here - and probably 99% of those criticizing Santos out in the world - have run for office and won election based on a series of total lies about their past. So most people aren't in a position to be hypocrites on this issue.
I wonder if you are deflecting by taking a specific issue and characterizing it more generally. Something to consider, anyway. You may not have been aware of it. Most people don't care that the guy lied ever. They care that he got votes based on his lies. People literally relied on those lies to make an important choice. What he did is fraud and his constituents are the victims.
Second, and more generally, liars who condemn liars could be hypocrites, but not for lying. They're hypocrites if they think it's ok for them to lie, while condemning it in others. Most liars know it's wrong to lie, and would say so if pressed. (There are probably some handful of people with Antisocial Personality Disorder who would be exceptions to this)
I would guess that at some point almost all people do all sorts of things that they know are wrong, and would admit are wrong, if confronted with it. It might make them weak, I suppose, but they aren't really hypocrites until they start excusing it.
He also mentions Elizabeth Warren. It's really hard not to think that, at best, you skimmed the seed. Even so, it's not much of a complaint. How many people should he mention to support his hypocrisy thesis? Is there a hard number? Why is one - arguably the most important one - insufficient?
Pretty much every single one of us is a hypocrite at some point. Jesusfor example, questioned people who judge the speck in their brother's eye, while ignoring the log in their own eye. It's an old problem.
Yeah the electorate can be pretty effing stupid. Our Founders knew this. That's why they tried to keep a lot of the decisions out of the hands of the ignorant rabble.
I think his being president is more indicative of the stupidity of the American voter than Biden’s actual stupidity.

The article points out what Santos did as wrong. It also calls out hypocrites from the progressive side who continue to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to Biden's and other progressives' lies.
What about, how about, just about…until we educate ourselves, get involved, and demand more…we will be content to piss and moan and disparage away…but bottom line, get what we deserve.

Biden's misstatements about his educational achievements are roughly equal to Trump saying he graduated at the top of his class at Wharton business school. Neither one of them were "honest", and in addition Trump led everyone to believe he has an MBA from Wharton, which is not true. He has an undergraduate degree in economics. In addition, one of Trumps professors at that school says Trump was the dumbest student he ever taught.
Even so , I would not compare trumps deception about his college achievements to George santos whoppers.

Joe Biden clearly believes that his son's time in Iraq killed him due to contracting cancer from burn pits. He is taking a little liberty with language to say Beau died IN Iraq, but it is not what I would call a lie. What would be his motivation for lying about something that anyone can prove? He is just misstating but also expressing his belief that Iraq caused his sons death.
I think sometimes Biden puts an interpretation on things that is "unique" to him and his way of thinking.
Inaccurate ? Yes. Lying? I dont know about that.
He wants to believe that his wife and kids were killed by a drunk driver, so he accepts a rumor as the truth.

Where did he say this? Biden lying about getting academic scholarships, getting three degrees, graduating in the top of his class, getting nominated to the naval academy, etc are all easily sourced.

Trump claimed he had the biggest electoral win since Ronald Reagan. Between 1988 and 2012 there were seven presidential elections. In only two of them was the winners electoral vote count less than Trump's 2016 number. (Both George W Bush).
Put a little differently, counting 2016 there were 8 presidential elections after Reagan . Trumps 304 electoral votes comes in 6th out of 8.
