New tests verify that Germany's Wendelstein 7-X fusion energy device is on track to safely suspend plasma in magnetic fields. For several decades now , scientists from around the world have been pursuing a ridiculously ambitious goal: They hope to develop a nuclear fusion reactor that would generate energy in the same manner as the sun and other stars, but down here on Earth. Incorporated into terrestrial power plants, this "star in a jar" technology would essentially provide Earth...

As I have mentioned in passing a number of times, a proposal by a foreign company to place 40, 525' tall wind turbines on the ridge near my house in the Pocono Mountains, may ultimately necessitate my walking away from it! Will post details throughout the day … Some background. https://www.wind-watch.org/news/2016/05/12/bethlehem-turbine-project-faces-headwind-in-the-poconos/ More later.

The Virginia Automobile Dealers Association has filed a long, convoluted complaint with the state’s Motor Vehicle Dealer Board. It accuses Tesla Motors of committing illegal acts at is authorized dealership in Tyson’s Corners and at a nearby gallery store in a shopping mall. To hear the VADA tell it, Tesla has done such heinous things as offering customers test drives, fudging official reports on state mandated fees, and engaging in illegal advertising. It stops just short of charging Tesla...

Ethanol blends at the pump have become the norm at the pump. Lawmakers in Washington are strongly considering eliminating $5 billion of tax credit subsidies that gives refiners 45 cents a gallon to use ethanol, a renewable fuel additive that comes mainly from corn. Folks fill up their tanks at the Marathon station at Forrest Hill Avenue and Gale. We live in ethanol country here in central Illinois. Most of us have seen the rise of gasohol as it was once called to the 10 percent blend...

When I first got the idea to write this article I wanted to put down several ideas and mash it all together. As the days have gone past it was clear to me the direction of this site that only one of those ideas would ideally fit. It is an idea that I have been tinkering with for awhile. It is an unpopular idea, but must be said in these tough economic days weather you agree or disagree solutions like this one are needed. We must not remain stagnant! In November 2009, Norwegian state owned electricity company Statkraft opened the worlds first osmotic power plant prototype , which generates electricity from the difference in the salt concentration between river water and sea water. While osmotic power is a clean, renewable energy source, its commercial use has been limited due to the low generating capacities offered by current technology the Statkraft plant, for example, has a capacity of about 4 kW. Now researchers have...

Hunting for your charger and a free plug socket could soon be a thing of the past. This is according to two electricians, who have designed the worlds first portable turbine phone charger that lets people charge their mobile phone using wind power alone. In fact, the generator can power up any item that requires a USB charger for power. Called Trinity, the device doesnt quite mimic the shape of your usual wind turbine. Instead, the product folds together into a 12-inch (30...
