A Good Time Story

A Good Time Story

This is a teacher from Arkansas by the name of Ashley McBryde.  Ashley first came to my attention about 2 weeks ago when a listener messaged me a link to her tune AMERICAN SCANDAL.  I was driving when I played the tune and actually pulled over so I could email her management team about getting some product to give away.  I added 4 of her tunes to my station's playlist that afternoon.  In the 2 short weeks since I introduced her to my listener's she has become one of our most requested artists.

I spent a couple decades on the road in tour busses before getting into radio.  I never aspired to be a big star, just a world class musician.  But when you play the Opry, everything changes.  It is hallowed ground in Country Music, and anyone blessed enough to step into that circle is definitely NOT going "NOWHERE".  This is about as real of a tune as it gets and exemplifies the attitude one has to have to succeed in the business.

I wanted to share this for all the music lovers, dreamers and those who have been told all their lives they'd never be nothing.

Congratulations Ashley, you did good.

Couldn't get this closer to the song "Girl Goin Nowhere".

[Verse 1]
Don't waste your life behind that guitar
You may get gone, but you won't get far
You're not the first, you won't be the last
And you can tell us all about it when you come crawling back
That road you're on, just winds and winds
Your spinning your wheels and wasting you're time

[Chorus 1]
But when the lights come up
And I hear the band
And where they said I'd never be is exactly where I am
I hear the crowd
I look around
And I can't find an empty chair
Not bad for a girl goin' nowhere

[Verse 2]
I get these calls, out on the road
Heard your song on my radio
We always said you'd make it big
And I tell all my friends, I knew you back when
So don't forget all us little folks
And when you crash and burn
Remember we told you so

[Chorus 2]
And then the lights come up
And I hear the band
And where they said I'd never be is exactly where I am
I hear the crowd
I look around
And I can't find one empty chair
Not bad for a girl goin' nowhere

[Outro]
I need to thank my daddy
For that first set of strings
And all those folks who swore I'd never be anything
It took a whole lot of yes I wills and I don't care
A whole lot of basement dives and county fairs
To this show right now and y'all sure look good out there
Not bad for a girl goin' nowhere
Not bad for a girl goin' nowhere

My old ears aren't what they use to be. LOL

Great story! A good lesson in mind over matter, so to speak. A lesson I learned was, "Never Say Never". I would not have been able to achieve all the break trough accomplishments I did in my life, well beyond my wildest dreams at times, if I had not adopted that mindset early in life. And Ashley has obviously had a mindset of her own that has allowed her to accomplish her dream as well.

But, one must also remember those who helped us achieve those goals, as we could not have done so without the help of others who believed in us and helped us along the way.

Well said Raven.  I love stories like this because I know the commitment and work ethic it takes to make it into that circle on that stage.  And I just love the way she couldn't contain her excitement during her performance, this will obviously be the highlight of her career.

this will obviously be the highlight of her career.

That's the story right there. That's the cake, and everything else from here on will simply be the icing. No matter what comes in the days ahead, she did it, she reached her dream, and that is what will last a lifetime, and no one can take that from her.

As you said, being able to make it in that business is a true accomplishment, no matter how long it may last. Reaching that goal is all that really counts. I admire her tenacity and determination to fulfill her dream. May her road ahead be paved with happiness and success.

Agreed, although I would have to believe if she gets invited at some point to become an actual member of the Opry, that is gonna rank right up there with her stepping into that circle the first time.

Absolutely! That would be the topping on the cake! For those in Country music that is the greatest honor and achievement. I hope she will be able to reach that accomplishment. I am sure that your promoting her on your radio show will also aid with her recognition and popularity. I love Country music and I will be listening for her on my local station.  Thumbs Up 2

"American Scandal"

[Verse 1]
Checking my lipstick in your aviators
Like a couple of cool kids, the hit paraders
The cherry glow of your cigarette

[Bridge]
Don’t tell me the world couldn’t handle
A good old-fashioned American scandal

[Chorus]
Hold me baby, hold me like you ain’t mine to hold
Oh kiss me baby kiss me, like you don’t care who knows
Oh love me baby love me like Kennedy and Monroe

[Verse 2]
Lights are flashing, Main Street paparazzi
You got them lining up to watch you want me
Let’s one up the rumors

[Chorus]
Hold me baby, hold me like you ain’t mine to hold
Oh kiss me baby kiss me, like you don’t care who knows
Oh love me baby love me like Kennedy and Monroe

[Bridge]
Don’t tell me the world couldn’t handle
A good old-fashioned American scandal

Hold me baby, hold me like you ain’t mine to hold
Oh kiss me baby kiss me, like you don’t care who knows

[Chorus]
Hold me baby, hold me like you ain’t mine to hold
Oh kiss me baby kiss me, like you don’t care who knows
Oh love me baby love me like Kennedy and Monroe

[Outro]
(Don’t tell me the world couldn’t handle) Kennedy and Monroe
(a good old-fashioned American scandal) Ooh like Kennedy and Monroe
(Don’t tell me the world couldn’t handle) Kennedy and Monroe
(a good old-fashioned American scandal)
Don’t tell me the world couldn’t handle a good old-fashioned American scandal

"A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega"

[Verse 1]
To the bag packed, first love leaver
The heart cracked, double down dreamer
The homesick for grass that's greener
And a slice of Mama's peach pie

[Verse 2]
To the flat broke, couch cushion gas money
The worker bee that ain't gettin' no honey
Missin' someone all the while runnin'
Gunnin' for the brighter lights

[Chorus]
Here's to the break ups that didn't break us
The break down, wrong turn that takes ya
To a little dive bar in Dahlonega
Hear a song from a band that saves ya, man
It's hittin' rock bottom smoke 'em if you got 'em
Nothing's going right
Makin' the best of the worst day kinda night

[Verse 3]
We've all got a number that we don't wanna drunk dial
And a good friend we ain't seen in a while
And a slow dance left in these boots
And a chance at putting down new roots

[Chorus]
Here's to the break ups that didn't break us
The break down, wrong turn that takes ya
To a little dive bar in Dahlonega
Meet a girl outside Atlanta, man
It's hittin' rock bottom smoke 'em if you got 'em
Nothing's going right
You're just singing along with your drink riased
A pretty little blonde thing's looking your way
Makin' the best of the worst day kinda night
Yeah, it's making the best of the worst day kind of night

[Outro]
Oh
Here's to the breakups
It's that kinda night

Dear Friend OSM: The only way to guarantee failure is not to try to succeed.

Hello my dear friend Enoch.  No truer words have ever been spoken, and I admire the tenacity of this young teacher for never giving up on her dreams in the face of all the negativity.

I knew people would not only like a good time story, but she's very talented as well, an amazing songwriter and I wish her nothing but the best.

Thanks for stopping by Enoch!
